You have to remember that in 2016 the best answers for Splinter Twin combo are literally unplayable cards in current modern like Abrupt Decay. Now there are tons of main deckable 0 and 1 mana instant speed answers. There might be a deck for Splinter Twin but at the minimum it will have to be built completely around protecting the combo with shit like Spellskite. Without Nadu there's no good examples of creature-based combos in current Modern, slotting Splinter Twin into existing decks is just adding 10 unplayble cards to your deck
I don't think you need all 10 now, If i were going to make a serious try at making the twin combo work I would have 2 Deceiver Exarchs and 2 Twins and generally let the fact that decks draw infinite cards cause the combo to happen naturally, and then let my opponent gaslight themselves harder about what is under my manifests.

I think its 40/60 on Twin Being good, but I don't think there is an upside to unbanning it because if it is good the Play Pattern is miserable. (See my hatred of the Flash decks..thanks WOTC for putting that in standard and ruining standard for me again)

You kid but I've played with people that do this.
Are you sure I kid?

(Wait, which "that"? Printing out proxies or buying cards from etsy?)

My thoughts exactly. It's an instant speed "oops I win" that isn't very easily telegraphed.
Did you know there is a common from Innistrad that untaps all creatures you control? that has flash and is a 1/4? and it's white?

Do you know what deck just lost 2 cards? Energy.

Look if energy twin can keep 60% of the meta, I’ll agree the twin unban was a bad idea, but I also think that it’d be really REALLY funny for WOTC to ban key cards for a deck with a mechanic that ruined a standard format, only for the deck to still function (possibly even better) because some idiot said ‘lets unban this 4 mana enchantment cause it’s bad now’

What is funny is because of Goblin Bombardment the deck doesn't even need to attack with all the tokens..and it also makes infinite energy and life off Guide of Souls.

Almost as though banning the worst card in the deck* and a card that it only ran for the mirror match wasn't enough to do anything.

*- It draws and sometimes casts an actually good card but it wasn't really a "synergy piece" and a 2/1 first strike body is pretty meh it was just.. slightly better then the deck would be if you took it out and let them register 56 cards instead of 60

Well a minor dream came true and Green Sun's Zenith was unbanned in Modern. You all know how I love Elves, I play them in Modern, Legacy and Pauper, all different varieties and builds. One of the constant staples of the deck is GSZ. Today I went on an exhaustive quest to see if I could find any of the ultra-rare (and pretty close to nonexistent) old-bordered Promo versions, which were introduced with the old-bordered version of Preordain in Treasure Chests back in April of this year...unfortunately, according to GoatBots intel, they weren't actually added to the treasure chests and it was a glitch. except 1 week before disappearing from the curated rewards, they were finally added.

So they are out there, but basically impossible to get.

SOMEHOW...I managed to scare up 3 copies.

FUCK.png

They were pricey. The card has shot up to 8-10 bucks a pop post-unban when a regular old copy was 89 cents a few weeks ago. So it goes.

Believe me when I say that I have gone through each and every single fucking MTGO seller bot on the client today looking for my fourth copy. Nothing. Cardhoarder dry, Goatbots dry, Dojo, every last obscure little sell bot. Not a soul has one. My OCD will not allow me to run 3 old border copies and one ugly new border, so until I can find a fourth it's 3 Chords instead of 2 for Modern and 3+1 Finale of Devastation for Legacy...a minor but relatively significant downgrade. Sometimes I wish I was not so dumb and picky.

Merry Christmas...send me prayers that I may find my fourth copy soon :[

sorry for double post but fuuuck yessss:

I looked for so long for that copy. It feels like I just extracted a splinter lmao

Check out what else I just finished this morning:

I noticed that I have all of my fav archetypes built and finished at this point. It feels kind of weird, actually, like a big part of my renewed interest in MTGO has sort of been satisfied. I still love playing, don't get me wrong, but the chase was so engaging. Hmm

Have i mentioned how much I hate some of MTG's alt arts? I hate them so much.

Asked here once before and had amazing results so figured I would be a pain again.

Have a semi monthly game night with a few friends. We had some great luck playing preconstructioned commander.

We are looking to expand it but we don't really want to drop much money on it. Is there a site dedicated to making decks of cheap commons and rares roughly balanced around each other?

Something that would work around 15-20$ a deck? Not looking for anything remotely competitive just in the same ball park of decks of roughly equal cost.

The problem with this idea is that green, black will have an outsized representation of amazing commons and uncommons at low prices so you can have the majority of the power without the cost.

While there aren’t any specifically dedicated to it, if you look at sites like Moxfield or Tappedout or even EDHRec, they usually have people that brew budget lists. When it comes to balancing though that’ll be something you’ll have to decide on your own, but I do think that keeping it 15-20$ means you won’t have any major runaway power house decks. I want to say it may have come up before, but you can also pick sets and restrict the cards for a commander to the cards from the set it was printed in (the runners in Maze’s End all offer some good building space that fits this concept).

Isn't an issue this is for super casual play. Something to rotate in between board games.

For actually building a deck, I like Archidekt a lot. The play tester works very well.

If you already know what you are looking for, the Scryfall advanced search is how I would deck build. It's great once you are established enough to know what you are looking for, but obtuse when you don't. For example if you want all mono-black removal you can search by "has text 'destroy target'" and filter by color and rarity, or everything that has "creatures have haste" on it. If you want "cards good for this commander" it can't help you any.

EDHRec is the most popular site, but I cannot recommend against using it enough. It aggregates all avalible deck lists and has an awful habit of just spitting out suggesting's for the most generically decent cheap cards and the most generically situationally good expensive cards that don't necessarily work with what you are doing. However, it is good for showing you what types of cards exist out in the world if you need that as a resource. Just remember that the masses are awful deck builders.

lol its The One Ring. I agree with you I don't like most alt arts (my cards basically have to be original border if available or it bothers me) but I really don't care for the normal One Ring artwork, and I like this one. I legitimately hate how the new border artifacts look, they look like white cards, they are drained of all color and bland. The old brown border was perfect for artifacts and should have never been changed.
To be fair, if you’re playing the one ring, I think having the most illegible copy is a Chad move.

I really like it. It fits in aesthetically with the Legacy Eldrazi list (black decks too!) with all the tentacles and wiggly bits. It helps that there are a bunch of alt art Eldrazi that actually look better than their normal versions. I am very picky on presentation (useless I know but it makes me happy)

ignore the coat of arms it is just for fun
p.s. also I find it fucking bonkers that old bordered Null Rods are 40 dollars a piece.
