I did not realize there was an onion/babylonbee style site for just MTG. That's awesome.
EDIT - loved this one.

I don't fully agree, i think you could do a Last Airbender set that fits well if you work hard at it.I've watched Avatar before, but I think it's a pretty bad pick. Avatar is based around a four color-element world. Fire, Wind, Water, and earth. Which doesn't neatly fit onto the color pie, white/blue are usually the wind elements, but the water tribes aren't that Blue in their ideology, mostly Red/White with some Green so it feels off flavor wise. Fire slots into red pretty well and since their villains they'll probably get black, even if the faction on a whole is probably Mardu. Black and green both share a lot of the earth theming, and there's earth bending secret police and apparently some evil earthbenders in korra, that I didn't watch, so I guess they'd get black due to being villains.
I saw some of the spoilers and Aang getting a mono-white card feels off. He's way more red. While Zuko as the fire lord gets Black, somehow, despite him not being Black in personality or powers. He's just black due to being the 'leader' of a villain faction. Even though the war has ended by that point. This even comes up with some other characters like Hei Bai who's very mono-green, maybe black/green. But gets a black/white card due to being a panda.
It's still a better fit than the two color good versus evil world of spiderman and marvel which lazily slapped black onto the villains even if it didn't fit power or lorewise.
Either way I won't be buying.
Make her base ability Troonisphere, if your opponent is trans they pay an extra three. It would actually warp the competitive scene.Nifty, i hope spear chick is op so i can build a stax deck with her and have a Kpop Tranny Hunter
I noticed a similar thing with Bloomburrow and Duskmourn. The latter got a lot of advertising and press but I saw almost none for Bloomburrow, I imagine because they were already confident in the innate appeal of cute sparkly-eyed critters. If they wanted to get more women—actual women—playing the game, Bloomburrow would've been a good time to bring back blocks. These sets are just miserable. The fact that they are showing UB sets so far in advance shows they're concerned about it not selling well. Spider-Man did awful.
Toxic Positivity Culture, Gotta let everyone do the thing..the Game can't be about trying to stop someone from doing things while you are trying to do the thing and prevent them from stopping you...It's been frustrating i've been playing commander for about 12 years, and with so many new players in the format you can tell they have never played any other form of magic. It feels like i have to use kids gloves when playing against them, like god forbid i try to end this game after a hour or stop you from doing "the thing". I've had to cultivate who i play with now. and its been so much harder to have pick up games
I got a young guy to try out some other formats a week or two ago and he was astonished by how different the game is, said he finally understood how different the game really is and why guys like me say they have no idea what they're doing. They don't know what they don't know, I suppose. It's been frustrating i've been playing commander for about 12 years, and with so many new players in the format you can tell they have never played any other form of magic. I have nearly given up hope at this point of having good pick-up games. My local shop can only get EDH events to fire anymore with more than 4 people, even drafts for FNM flop. 60-card has been dead since COVID in my region, and it used to have a thriving Modern crowd of 20-30 regulars. I've been chasing a few more singles to make a sort of time capsule of Premodern / Modern 2015 decks and box up my collection for a while. Either things improve, Bezos / Musk / etc replace Hasbro as owners once the execs fuck up enough, or I let it collect dust in a safe area. Maybe someday my kids will want to learn how to play a physical game I used to enjoy, and I want them to experience it the way I enjoyed it instead of FF / Spiderman / Avatar / TMNT / Space random cards.I've had to cultivate who i play with now. and its been so much harder to have pick up games
I don't keep up with the game...is the common complaint that there is too much product/oversaturation?I have nearly given up hope at this point of having good pick-up games. The big complaints are:I don't keep up with the game...is the common complaint that there is too much product/oversaturation?
The big complaints are:
1) Too much product/oversaturation like you said. I count seven sets releasing next year.
2) Hit or miss quality - balance issues are common and Limited tends to be an even bigger mess than Constructed.
3) Giving up on world/character development for in-universe sets - MtG's worldbuilding was passable at best even at its peak, but now it's bordering on zero effort.
4) Universes Beyond - Remember when WotC said they'd never make a set based on another IP? That got memory holed when they realized it was easy, reliable money. In addition to many longtimers mostly disliking Magic sets using other IPs on principle, these sets have hit or miss quality and serious problems with scalpers.
5) DEI/Woke - Race swapping/forced diversity is ubiquitous even when it does not fit with the lore (e.g. retconning Aragorn from Lord of the Rings to be black) and constant troonery for the in-universe sets.
Yeah i think the last set i remember being into was around dominaria and ixalan and even then it was like too muchThe big complaints are:

Really? I was always a cuber and I fucked around with vintage and occasional drafting2) Hit or miss quality - balance issues are common and Limited tends to be an even bigger mess than Constructed.
like i said, i loved the old stories. The brothers war and the weatherlight stuff was cool...at least cool enough for the backstory of a card game. It it had good aesthetic. What really broke it for me was they egypt set.3) Giving up on world/character development for in-universe sets - MtG's worldbuilding was passable at best even at its peak, but now it's bordering on zero effort.
i dont l4) Universes Beyond - Remember when WotC said they'd never make a set based on another IP?
yeah i could see that. For me...I like the abilities and IDEA of like...spider man or TMNT. But it doesnt fit aesthetically with what i want the game to look like. Let me play a llanowar elves or necropotence and then play fucking Gwen Stacy or Leonardo or Dr. Ian Malcolm...like...it doesnt fit no matter how cool the mechanics or abilities areThat got memory holed when they realized it was easy, reliable money. fucking seriously?5) DEI/Woke - Race swapping/forced diversity is ubiquitous even when it does not fit with the lore (e.g. retconning Aragorn from Lord of the Rings to be black)
Sigh....and constant troonery for the in-universe sets.
I found out today that they put Bolas's Citadel on a commander, and it's fucking "Gwenom."yeah i could see that. For me...I like the abilities and IDEA of like...spider man or TMNT.
