Jace as autistic Captain Kirk, on a quest to collect as many interplanar baddies as he can while also saving the multiverse or something, would actually be pretty fun to read.

Gideon is obviously Kirk. Which makes Jace Spock. McCoy would probably be.... Chandra. I was going to put her as Scotty but that would be Nissa. Or Teferi if we're going to allow all of the gatewatch. That would put Liliana as... Harry Mudd.

Since it's Lorwyn Elementals, it'll probably be base red with green as the runner up and the other three colors as splashes. Having the deck skewed toward certain colors like that makes the mana a lot easier and I imagine we'll get the UR "enters tapped unless you control two basics" dual-typed land. That means you can run the full cycle of those from Zendikar II and then stuff like Farseek and Nature's Lore. The mana won't be good, but it won't be tragic either.

Well, that's if WotC is feeling generous.

It's only $2. I used it to run it in my 5c elemental modern deck. (which was principally green/red)

That Ashling is really really bad to, you end up paying 9 to get haste and an extra ETB.

It's only 4 to get 2 ETB triggers and 1 of those have haste.

You then have to pay an extra 5 if you want to keep 1 of the bodies. (Assuming you're doing her evoke, you can use other evokes costs.)

Though back before the days of blinking evoke, I'd just use Incandescent Soulstoke to stick an elemental and then champion it after a swing. OG Lorwyn had some fun stuff in it.

New Ashling will just be some combo-slop involving sibsig ceremony, heartless summons, cloud key, semblance anvil, or some other combination or things to reduce casting-cost to 0, paired with any number of 'when you cast a creature / when a creature dies -> draw a card' effects.

These commanders are both extremely uninteresting and simple designs, which suggests to me that we're again dealing with the B-team or C-team for this set. Not surprising: the A-team has got a whole lot of work cut out for them with The Hobbit and Star Trek, particularly since the B-Team is all but guaranteed to have shit the bed with TMNT. Goddamn am I hype about being able to not spend a damn cent on this game for the vast majority of next year.

New Ashling makes me want to do autism involving a huge ass Elemental army. Fun Fact there's multiple types of elemental tokens and some of them are just from either ETBs or LTBs. Here is a list of token elementals that other elementals will create:

• Voice of Resurgence/Vernal Sovereign creates a creature that'll grow with the number of creatures you have.
• Scampering Scorcher creates two red 1/1s and gives them haste then if you give them evoke it'll create four of the elementals and a token of Scampering Scorcher.
• Eyes of the Wisent/Walker of the Grove can create green 4/4s but with the Walker it'll also be a 7/7 that'll swing in due to New Ashling getting haste.
• Omnath, Locus of Rage gives a 5/5 for it's landfall and can be made to be cheaper due to New Ashling.​
• Seed Guardian generates a Elemental whose power and toughness will be equal to the creatures in your graveyard (which might be huge)​

Another thing to note, keep a eye out for Lightning Coils because it'll create five 3/1 red Elementals with haste and with New Ashling you'll be likely to pull it out more often than not. Also there's Wayfaring Temple as it's a elemental and when it connects it'll populate.

yes all you did there was give Omnath echo to draw one card and give it haste.

Temur Ascendancy does that for less mana already.

It's cute but paying 5 mana to keep things is way to much for most things you wanna evoke outside of Titan of Industry or avenger of Zendikar.

That's assuming you even want to do that. I've had a lot of fun with aristocrat builds turning all those temporary bodies into fuel for the machine. (Mishra is too dope, and soon my mardu mobilize war crime will be finished.) 5c aristocrats just sounds like it's waiting for sick abuse.

I distinctively remember trigger being at the beginning of the next end step. And I can't remember a token that's sacrificed at upkeep, unless there's cumulative upkeep involved.

My bad it is end step, I read it thought it was end step..then reread it to make sure and came up with upkeep.

That actually just kind of makes it even worse because you actually need 9 Mana to keep your shit without janky cheating.

It won't be some top tier cedh stuff, but there's lots of fun options you can play with.

At least Forrest (probably) won't be able to make a torture deck out of it.

In retrospect it really is crazy how busted Grief was. It started as one of the "meh" MH2 pitch elementals and became arguably the best one once the right shell for it was discovered.
