That is the altar that sticks in my head because it is part of my Infinite Gonti, Lord of Luxury combo.

I used to play a shitty variant of coco/fruity pebbles as a kid and it used it in the build. Enduring Renewal + Ashnod's Altar + Ornithopter + Fireball/Atog

Splurged and got a Antiquities one recently too.

One of my EDH decks is Gonti, Lord of Luxury, I had been looking for a way to infinitely trigger him because you know.

What is better in life..than drawing an entire deck with infinite mana and a blue sun zeinith?

Drawing 3 decks...none of which are yours, eventually I accidentally ran into it when I had, Mike the Unhallowed, Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle on the field and then cast Gonti. It turns out..the infinite Gonti Combo was the deck I made along the way.

That's convoluted as hell but I love it all the same, took me a sec to work out the logistics but I got it. Not having really played in like 3+ months has really done a number on figuring out play lines for me.

It's easy enough though, just get everything out sac Gonti, trigger undying, sac Gonti again, pay deathmantle to bring him back, rinse repeat.

Oh did you see we getting a Grim Tutor reprint in Core 2021?

Only one printing before this and it was Starter '99 which is stupid rare and as such it was $150-200 card and it's the worst of the good EDH tutors.

Don't worry I had all 4 pieces in my deck for months before I put it together myself, I just thought they were all good with Gonti anyways, and yeah I saw that, mono-black already has better (Beseech the Queen is god damn underrated for mono-black) but this will be good in Green/Black where you can drop a mana-dork and cast this on turn 2.

it is however a really good test case for reprints, if this doesn't tank the price much then the reserve list has absolutely nothing to stand on.

Has took a slight hit it looks like but only like $20 or so, but admittedly word hasn't gotten out either. It did destroy the price of Back to Basics when it was reprinted in Ultimate Masters. Card was like $100+ til then and now it's back down to like $10

It spiked when the old version was printed for some absurd reason but it didn't start that high in the first place.

It spiked to like $300 for a very short period but it was $100-200 for a good 8 months before UM reprinted it. It was a similar case where it was the only printing, though a much larger run than Starter 99. Still it did completely destroy the price. But the fact remains it was $100+ for year and $40ish for a long time before that.

UM was announced and released in the end of Nov/Dec 2019 that's where it takes the first tanks a little and now the fact it exist made the price go down on the original to $10 or so.

That does not tell the whole story though, prior to Eternal Master's it's price at below 10 Dollars, it is actually up compared to where it was 5 years ago, which was the start of the current age of magic.

It was seeing a lot of Legacy play is why, which started to pick up because of EM. EM made it jump from like 10->20 and then over the year of 2018 it was pretty much 60 then for about few months then jumped to 100+. Right after the UM printing the price tanked original. It's obvious the two are connected and it would have held at least $50 if it wasn't for the reprint since it stayed around that for almost 2 years.

Local shop has done cut the price they pay on Starter '99 Grim Tutor in half practically as well.

I just got Meren for my first EDH deck. Are there any good infinite sac combos I can/should use?

I've always seen Meren as more of a value thing but that's just me, the nature of her ability makes it a bit trickier to go infinite using it alone. But it will let you get something really big out easily if you can make it happen. It'd probably involve a persist creature and Melira, Sylvok Outcast and viscera seer. Birthing Pod would probably work well in it as well, since it sacs a creature and gets you one too, could easily make the combo happen using that stuff with a few tutors and just have Meren for value.

Basically I'm saying throw the old Melira Pod combo from modern in, the only catch is you can't use kitchen finks or murderous redcap to finish them off. Though you could altar of the brood everybody out the game.

Edit:
MTG, it's all about Altars.

I had planned on mostly going the value route but I'd still like the "gotcha" factor of a combo. I guess the main theme for a sac for value.

Edit for typo.

Meren is a control deck that looks like a combo deck, keep enough sac value cards to make meren's value an inevitable win but put enough control effects to force the game into that phase and keep people from comboing off.

Caustic Caterpillar is a MVP in that deck I swear a recurable disenchant is invaluable.

Spore Frog, Caustic Caterpillar, Plaguecrafter, Yavimaya Elder, Acidic Slime and Sakura Tribe Elder and Ravenous Chupecabra are all must haves.

If you a big boy and can afford a Survival of the Fittest (or group is cool with a World Champs version) it would be invaluable in your deck as well. Green Sun Zenith, Chord of Calling are good things as well.

I'd put in Fleshbag and Merciless Executioner, as having multiple versions of that effect goes a long way. Gray Merchant is also how I tend to finish my games with Meren, so I'd always toss it in. I also had mild success with Izoni to gum up the board and provide sac fodder, though Abhorrent Overlord is good there too. Poison-tip Archer also pressures life totals fast in Meren if you're doing things right. Fiend Artisan is also a card I'm interested in trying out in mine, though I definitely go for the grind game.

Meren's got a few combos in her colors, but they're more like Mike and Trike/Ballista than something that she inherently enables by herself. She's still one of the stronger Golgari commanders that are out there by far - she just telegraphs to any table what she plans on doing. If you like that, go for it, but people that have played against her will target you a bit.

A decent budget card is Eldritch Evolution as well - it does exile on resolving, but I'm usually happy to draw into it.

Any Zur player is getting Rest in Peace out against you ASAP just to fuck with you (if they aren't just winning the game via Doomsday or Ad Nauseum type stuff), so try not to start filling your yard to hard against anybody playing white too fast. Graveyard hate in general just knee-caps the shit out of you.

Survival of the Fittest, Recurring Nightmare, and Living Death might be my favorite cards of all time.
