I enjoy leafing through the old Magic Encyclopedias and enjoying all the interesting art. I can't imagine doing that with any modern set, everything is dull and predictable.

RIP Terese Nielsen.Apparently this is just a first pass, they are gonna go after more stuff. I can't wait till they actually ban a tournament staple because of this, even if it is a Legacy card or something. I'm still betting they will go after certain artists cards because of wrong-think.
RIP Terese Nielsen.
People are now calling for them to remove every reference to black as evil and white as good. Nevermind that it's never that, er, black and white. Black has always been focused around personal ambition and saying "fuck you" to anyone in the way, and White has always been a Lawful Good paladin thing, where they end up becoming fascists if they go too far. Look at the Azorius in Ravnica, they're basically a guild of lawyers and they're blue/white.
I can't wait to play in 2022, when you're no longer allowed to destroy black creatures, and all plains are banned.
RIP Terese Nielsen.
I could easily see them purging him too unless he outright denounces her, we're dealing with infested korporations here. Not to mention that the Selesnya are pretty nutso in the head at times, in a radical hippie sort of way.
And isn't Black also about pushing for personal gain, even if it hurts you? Dark Confidant is a really standout example of that.
I do wonder if they'll blacklist her brother Ron Spencer as well, just because of family association.
Unless they were already prepped to purge Terese Nielsen I doubt any cards to replace banned ones would be in Commander Masters - between commissioning the art, approving it, and getting it to the printers there's no time to make that work.RIP Force of Will unless it's the extra expensive Judge Foil.
They'll print it with a new artist in the new Commander Masters thing they are cooking up I bet and then ban any of the two arts for it she did. Even if the second one does have black lady on it.

"Seth, you keep mistaking The Black Guy whose name starts with T with the other Black Guy that starts with T. You can't even say they look the same cause Teferi is BALD!"

I am not sure they even know she is black..some of her art is very light skinnedThe one thing that I wonder about people wanting that kind of representation is why Sisay isn't brought up as often in these conversations.
There are a lot of players now days who think she's supposed to be a dark ebony colour, but she's always depicted as being very light skin. Except on Sisay's Ring, but I think someone else is wearing it on the 7th Edition card and the Visions card has three men. Then you have people who think Shanna is white. People really don't understand lighting when it comes to artwork. That, or they're just that stupid.I am not sure they even know she is black..some of her art is very light skinned

IIRC, Mark Rosewater was super pissy that she played second fiddle to Gerrard (straight white male) in the Weatherlight saga. The one thing that I wonder about people wanting that kind of representation is why Sisay isn't brought up as often in these conversations.
Despite actually being the on in charge through most of it all and being one of the two main characters to actually Survive the invasion.IIRC, Mark Rosewater was super pissy that she played second fiddle to Gerrard (straight white male) in the Weatherlight saga.
But... he was in charge of the story back then.IIRC, Mark Rosewater was super pissy that she played second fiddle to Gerrard (straight white male) in the Weatherlight saga.
He apparently wasn't all the way in charge as he was still pissy that Sisay didn't lead the charge in the public's eye.But... he was in charge of the story back then.
Also memology has recorded the history of this event.

Can you find a source on that for me?He apparently wasn't all the way in charge as he was still pissy that Sisay didn't lead the charge in the public's eye.
Mark Rosewater said:You see, I was very involved in the creation of the Weatherlight Saga and today I thought I'd give you a designer's behind the scenes of how it all came together.
. . .
As one of Magic's developers (yes, back then I was a developer) and one of its editors, we had an "in." We decided we would put together a proposal and then pitch it to Magic's then–brand manager, a man named Joel Mick. What did we need to do the proposal? Well, we needed a cast of characters. We needed a premise. And we needed a storyline. We decided a three-year arc made the most sense. (Thinking of each year as a story, we felt that this would act as a trilogy—and story does love its three-act structure.)
. . .
Anyway, Mike and I decided that we were going to tell "The Hero's Journey." This meant that we had to line up all the pieces. Our protagonist, Gerrard, needed to be of a noble birth yet have been taken away from it as a baby. We needed a villain that was blood-bound to Gerrard. We needed a dark home for our villain. We needed a number of things to be able to tell "A Hero's Journey."
. . .
We, on the other hand, loved the idea of making the protagonist a rogue. What if he was a hero that knew his destiny but consciously avoided it? Most heroes, when they learn of their true nature, embrace it. Not Gerrard. He fights it kicking and screaming. In fact, when the story begins, he's abandoned the Weatherlight because he doesn't want any part of his destiny. As far as he's concerned his destiny has done nothing but killed those he's loved.
. . .
Sisay is the captain of the Weatherlight. She is entrusted with helping Gerrard embrace his destiny. Here's the catch. Sisay chooses to do it without telling Gerrard what she's up to. When she recruits Gerrard to join her crew, he has no idea that she tracked him down or that the ship itself is part of the Legacy and thus belongs to him. Sisay was crucial to the mix of characters because Sisay is the force pulling Gerrard towards his destiny. She is unwavering in her belief in Gerrard, which is important because Gerrard himself is constantly wavering. If Volrath (we'll get to him in a bit) is the devil on Gerrard's one shoulder, Sisay is the angel (although not literally; the story does have an angel though).
I unfortunately don't have the source off the top of my head, but I do know that MaRo lost control over the Weatherlight saga for NDA-covered reasons. Any time people ask about what he initially meant to have the story he's always avoided answering the question. Can you find a source on that for me?
Oh not because I doubt you. I've commented elsewhere before that MaRo is hilarious when you look at say... his "state of design" articles where he talks about, "yeah we screwed up with ___ this year" when if you go back to debut of the thing, all he was doing was praising it. So if you can find somewhere that he's now denouncing his old work, this could be hilarious.
Here's my citations as a set up for the punchline.
