I do agree with this though, they should have been more like Rook

Blank with no faces, show character by the way they talk and the way the "shell" is personalized by the mind inside it.

Not even talking, no voice lines, it should all be game chat (which is explained by being an in universe chat that the runners use as well). Call outs can be made through VC. If you really want us to be invested, we need to BE these characters, not just pilot them. My guardian is MY guardian because the nigga never talks.


Edit: this works for cosmetics as well, just like Destiny, you start with shit gear and a blank frame and YOU personalize them how YOU see fit.

Unironically, yes. The OG character from marathon had A BIT of characterization in the manual, but otherwise, he was you, dressed up in badass and iconic armor, kicking alien ass. This used to be well known to the point of becoming tired, that FPS protags were silent so you could embody them. But the industry corrected so hard to having your character talk that it become so grating so fast. There’s a good inbetween, and you know who that is?

Master Chief. Huh, who knew? I wonder who made Halo? Certainly Not these skin walking faggots that currently occupy Bungie HQ.

well Cayde's Vanguard Dare was any hunter who killed him got all his stuff, and especially his position in the Vanguard, so it makes sense for Crow to take the job, and he's the only Hunter in history who did so proudly and willingly because he's a retard.

The gun models were horrifically done, BUT, that game was so ahead of its time with the gun porn. The depth of field when you reloaded so you could see every minutia of the animation? Fucking perfection. The guns were just not realistic or matched the IRL weapons at all. Great game, back when EA of all companies had the ball to release random IPs.

sorry bub, you can only have that on MMOFPS shit with ingame seasonal goypass and even then you might get a short stick and need to do operator bullshit where you get a gay little text telling how the character you chose likes taking up the bum, although you can add pretty stickers to your gunz and use the shitty camo.

until some indie game does it big, GAAAAAAAY devs won't even think about it and if they do, they will ruin it on purpose because they fucking hate you.

I feel like we got a lot of good story in Final Shape, especially for Zavala. Knowing that he was A. Straight and B. Had a kid? Awesome, good to know my blue nigga was producing. But now he’s just back to his old ways, a glorified “vendor” icon in the tower.

Wasn't his kid, Arisen are sterile. The kid was adopted.

Destiny had a notable paucity of straight relationships, and even fewer that ended well.

From what I've read, originally it was meant to be like this. You customize your character however you like without hero shooter bullshit, but they changed directors to a riot dev who worked on valorant and with him we got the predefined characters with abilities.

well his very famous and dedicated VA is dead, he should be peacefully retired, he at least showed up to voice him to the bitter end, Nathan Fillion couldn't voice Cayde in the god damn expac he died in and somehow got dragged back to voice him for his temprorary return.

honestly one of the best soundtracks in the entire franchise.

 
I have to say, this game has the ugliest user interface I've ever seen in my life. One would actually be hard pressed to make a UI any uglier.

I literally coded buttons from scratch in C to familiarize myself with windows apps, chose random colors and rasterized some shitty generic font, and it still looked better than Marathon's.

What gets me is that the lady from the very first trailer isn't even one of the playable characters.

Instead of the three females actually in the game, you get Occulus Rift, Punk Statue of Liberty, and Puffy Jacket girl.

Granted, the men aren't much better. "Not A Destiny Titan" guy is easily the best design, and Stealth Manson actually works...but then the other guy feels like they ran out of ideas and just made the Manson guy blue without the hoodie. Like, seriously? They're effectively custom 3D printed bodies and we CAN'T get something like Cyberpunk 2077 augs?

I posted about it way earlier in the thread but yes she is they just heavily updated her. She literally pops up when you google Marathon thief shell

The UESC is heavily militaristic, their designs are wonderful. You’d think the “mercs” would be the same way, I don’t understand why every gay ass dev is obsessed with style over function.
 
I wish there was a game where your character can get wrecked and lose armor, if they're human and have a mask/helmet you should see its face and inner layers of armor, if it's robotic the internal parts, not necessarily gore, but visual damage imput to show the consequences of battle, it also would look cool.
But since this is another customization slop game, like everything else these days, it's not going to happen.

I am not sure what brain damage Bungie and other game developers suffer from, but even someone with a room temperature IQ could explain to you that to sell skins and cosmetics, the characters need to look cool or sexy, or preferably a combination of both.
