Marathon 2025 - Bungie's new AAAA Extraction shooter

I think that Marathon is ultimately a flop, but not a concordlike-level flop. It makes a lot of the same mistakes, and frankly I don't know how it did it, but this slow traildown is far more reminiscent of your standard bad game.

I disagree with @creaturestorm having such a narrow view of Concord being the one and only, though. I've gone over my own candidates for 'concordlikes' multiple times, and I think that at the very least Highguard's spectacular flop deserves the title. When literally all that stands between your game and the exact same fate as concord is a completely undeserved Game Awards highlight, I feel pretty safe saying we're gonna have some more. Especially with Horizon Forbidden Treadmill still on the way.
Shut down/LTS within a year

I strongly believe the only thing that saved it from the same shame as concord and highguard. Is the guy who was smart enough to set up their own servers.
That guy should be given the biggest raise possible and put in charge of all of Sony's network systems.
Without him they would have folded a month ago.
What he set up cost probably 100k but has only been costing them a few grand a month to manage as opposed to Concord and Highguard which was 150k a month if the amazon quotes are to be believed.

Odds are that guy isn't at bungie anymore and left sometime during or after Marathon 1 / 2's development.

- director decides to leave, "excited for new challenges"
- makes a tweet jerking off all the talented folx in the studio who continue to showcase blood/sweat/tear-type of passion to the max erryday
- introduces the next guy with the good old "the game is in good hands for many years to come"
- the next guy then thanks the last guy, politely jerks him off a bit in return
- the next guy heccin loves his devs, his game and more importantly the players who should know that there are great things to come (no specifics at this time)
- community manager makes two posts: "I hope you're ready for what we got in store" and a cat meme, fulfilling his duties for the year
- nothing happens

well it is, its also every major company in america lol, all of them, even fucking GROCERY stores are now wrangled by this insanity.

my last one I worked at got bought out by a company who got bought out by a bigger company and all of them sold themselves to an even larger, Euro company, and they came down, said everything would be good, all the gladhanding smiling bullshit...

every location in my state and the state over got shut down, remodeled and turned into the Euro companies grocer, everyone fired, obviously, with "first in line" to apply to a company THAT DOESNT EVEN CUT MEAT (its all prepackaged) so people like me were shit out of luck.

but for a while it was all the shit above, they were very "Excited for new challenges" haha.

Silverhand really had a good point with nuking Arasaka tower, didn’t he?
Fedpost or not, this shit has to change somehow someway. If it was just Wall Street brokerages eating eachother, I wouldn’t care less, but literally everything is owned by like 5-10 companies world wide.

everything is basically owned by 7, not even 10, 7.

and Yes, it will have to change, not to right the wrongs of all the people, like me, that Globo-Homo Corporatism has caused, but simply because it has no choice, its not sustainable, jobs that have real value no longer make any money, tons, and tons just an unbelivable, boggle the mind level of people get paid insane salaries for make-work, this sort of weird value inversion cannot last.

do you know how many people my age, in the state and adjacent states I'm in, can cut meat at a professional level? my age or younger?
about 2, that's how old the average age Meat Cutters are, no one wants to do it, know one knows how to do it, and its an important, useful and community helpful task, and it pays fuck all, anywhere, starting about 30-20 years ago, all of sudden, like tons of other jobs that are good and necessary and limited in people.

And why would they want to be a Meat-Cutter, a consultant or w/e makes 10x+ my salary, for make-work, with zero physical effort.

Hideous 'who is this for?' art/game design
I'll say this in Marathon's defense, I don't hate the art style. I dislike it, I think it's really bad, but I can respect the attempt to make something distinctive and unique. Concord's art style, on the other hand, looks like it was intended to do nothing but own the chuds.

Sorry, best we can do is obese wheelchair niggers.
Don’t forget, Marilyn Manson Robot Nigga:

There are more people playing fucking Kerbal Space Program than Marathon currently.
That game has been popping up in my feed lately. Looks like one of those games thats funner to watch than actually 'play'.

S2 is coming out with a new Runner shell and I would bet money its going to be a sassy black woman.

That's how I feel, it's a cool style poorly executed. Concord's characters looked like Deviant Art OC donut steel and Highguard's looked like they were ripped from a fake mobile game ad.

why does this look worse than my art?
Is it better for your game to have exclusively terrible fanart or no fanart at all?

Elon Musk could do the funniest thing ever by forcing users' display names to use exclusively 7-bit low ASCII characters only (no specials, no emojis, no control characters, no accents, just fucking upper and lowercase alphabet characters, spaces and numbers). Just imagine how much rage would be generated by removing everyone's ability to smear themselves in stickers and be forced to compete on merit and content.

no but its more load bearing, as has been said before, Bungie is bigger than Firewalk, Bungie is an institution that is dying on this hill, right now, because of this, so its still very interesting.
It's different things. What you say is closer to seeing ubisoft rot after multiple constant fuckups in a row and gleefully seeing the last bit of goodwill breathe for the last time. Though I've never played a Bungie game so I was mostly here for a mini concord that ain't happening and am staying here to laugh at Sony.
