It'll be interesting if people complain about it and Bungie just pretends not to notice (i.e. they tweak it internally on the fly and don't mention it as a patch note); that'll be the bigger tell that Marathon's in real (immediate) trouble of player count collapse.

Pretty sure this has already happened. I made a comment that the game would basically be unplayable outside of NA peak times already, and there are a couple threads talking about how people (in OCE, the 'canary' region due to their tiny population, have been talking about 10minute wait times before getting defaulted to NA/EU/Asia servers with >200ms ping) have experienced getting put on local servers with fewer players. Apparently it occured (at least once) on the end game map too.

No, they have tried with a few things, but I think they ultimately cant. There is a total ideological mismatch between LGBT ideology and cyberpunk.

They are both exploring and pushing similar ideas, but at the end of the day they both condemn one another. So when these people end up writing shit for cyberpunk, their intent gets reversed and their argument gets turned back on themselves. There is a subtext in this genre that completely destroys any kind of argument they are trying to make.

So when these guys try to frame MIDA, a faction that could be described as a sort of communist love child between the IRA and BLM, it ends up so poorly executed that it comes across as a strawman for conservatives.

While other factions have you acting as search and rescue or as recovery for geological survey data, every single MIDA missions has you fighting the 'police' or 'man' as it were. One mission you're spraying graffiti on building and in the next you are breaking windows to protest the system....

They read as both ineffective, incompetent, and lack all seriousness. The lore makes it clear that the one and only time they had any real power, instead of ushering in anti capitalist utopia, they instead murdered around 10% of the entire population. hiding lore in item descriptions is one of the biggest narrative sins games commit. there's plenty of ways to do it when there's a narrator framing the player experience or a floating fairy whispering over your shoulder that just tells you "wow, thats an ocarina!" but so many games don't even attempt to hide the conceit that the game developer controls the exposition

Souls bourne games do a good job of it, Marathon makes a mess of it.

This is true, and I like Warframe as much as anyone. It’s a great game packed to the brim with content. But, as another user pointed out, it’s just as full of nigger, tranny, and faggot shit as destiny and marathon, maybe even more so. They’re not immune to it, especially being a Canadian studio. They just either A. Hide it better or B. Rarely bring it up story wise because it doesn’t make sense.

But aside from gay social politics shit, yeah, Warframe blows bungie out of the water. The amount of quality content they put out, on the time frame they do, and the fact they continue to innovate both narratively and with gameplay systems is unmatched by anyone. Their success is a rarity, and if people swallowed their pride and followed Digital Extremes example then Live Service games might not be dogshit. But that requires effort.

i didn't say READING was the sin, i said that putting it in item descriptions was a sin. im talking about the fourth wall via diagetics. who is communicating that information to you? a narrarator? the player character? in CRUELTY SQUAD when you sell organs on the black market it gives you flavor text that says shit like "combat pancreases are standard issue in the wetwork industry" and thats primo. it communicates world building and doesn't break the fourth wall because the first thing the game establishes is that you literally only know how to assasinate people.

i remember Mass Effect was really bad about this, the game largely does a good job of building a world though dialog and conversation but the second you start looking past that it's like... who is this for? is this for SHEPARD or is it for ME, the guy controlling shepard? A i supposed to be a badass military commander who has a starship or a guy that needs to be explained how firearms work? it creates a massive whiplash in tone

Warframe is incredibly tonally schizophrenic in its design. It has goonerbait and woke nigger trash design spread throughout it evenly. It has redditor friendly fortnite tier events alongside hyper realistic gore physics. The Dark Sector holdovers from the 360 era show that DE can design some extremely cool things once in a blue moon.

Item descriptions are the most efficient way to deliver small, optional, exposition dumps on the player. At some point, a story teller has to explain their world some how, you cant realistically communicate every single detail purely through diegetic means with out pissing off and boring your audience to death. If every piece of world building has to emerge naturally through dialogue or environmental story telling, it would be boring as fuck. So you either just hide that lore from the player or you never bother to begin with, Settings feel more immersive when they don't feel like they are constructed for the plot that's currently happening, an entirely diegetic fueled story would have to cut out all the little things that make a world interesting.

A lot of games have separate design teams and often the woke HR bimbo gets the final say, sadly. In Cyberpunk the flavor text for certain groups is laughably woke about how Rockerboys are street poets who teach gender and sociology but then in game Johnny Silverhand mocks feminists and gets V shitfaced drunk and bangs groupies and crashes a car when he takes over V's body. That tells me there was more than one group at CDPR who had different ideas for what Cyberpunk 2077 should have been and probably was majorly responsible for its catostrophic launch by having such a fragmented workforce.

Warframe probably has some old comic book artist types, like the super gritty Dark Sector design, designing all the cool shit in one design team while the Anita Sarkeesian they hired because investors said so decided to put her tumblr fanfic about pillowbiters in game leading to the incredibly schizophrenic tone.
