Datto reacted to the news, he cried like a bitch, but I do understand his sadness. The dude is scared, his entire channel is built on Destiny. The dude might literally have to put the fries in the bag. They’ve fucked over so many of the YouTubers who covered this game daily, why would any of them defend Bungie or switch to marathon now? You’ve lost your community at that point. They’ve burned so many bridges that I think they might be isolated finally.

“marathon will not affect the development of Destiny 2.” Kek.

So if/when Marathon dies, is Bungie done too?
Without a fucking doubt.

I can understand it happening a couple times, but why do they keep doing it? Like Sony were smart enough to recognise after Ghostbusters 2016 was a massive flop to let the IP cool off for a couple years before coming back with an actual sequel that pandered to the fans instead of slacktivists, so why can't they recognize the same problem here?

We have so many examples now of wokeslop and/or live service games consistently failing that you have to be wilfully obtuse to not see the pattern, so is it just the Gambler's Fallacy of only having to get lucky once?
TL;DR Marathon fans are fucking stupid and Sony knows it and there is a lot of social buy in on consoles, only western idiots buy these kinds of games and the model Marathon uses that was invented by Fortnite is dying because Roblox is even worse and offers an even more addictive form of digital heroin to people the model appeals to and what uses to work does not work anymore

There is a certain amount of buy in with these games to keep soyny and nu-Xbox afloat, but its console only and a good example of this is how Stellar Blade sold poorly on PS5 but amazing on Steam but the God of Soy Fagnacock sold good on PS5 but awful on Steam

They also know western gamers are stupid and want instant gratification and anything too hard or skill based is more for Asian or Eastern European markets(Slavs love ultra difficult Boomer shooters) so even the segmentation of the PC Market reflects this

Western gamers are also a lot more socially inclined to play online-only games like Fortnite operating off of FOMO and social shaming and Epic Goyims mastered the art of getting teenagers to bully each other for not hopping on Fortnite or not spending $20 on the latest Yung Nig skin. The model that Bunghole is using is predatory by design and works off of FOMO and social shame. Niggers often shame each other when one does not have the latest pair of Jordans or Nikes and they expect children to literally bully each other over not partaking in a social experience.

Steam has more Chinese users than english speakers and Stellar Blade and Wukong sold mostly in Asian Markets but barely in the socially conscious and conformist west

GoG is in Poland by Slavs for Slavs and has games that appeal to the kind of people in that region of the world, GoG even is profitable but not in the western world which is why Michal Kiczinski saved GoG from a western investor takeover because corporate idiots don't understand that different markets want different things

The Fortnite model is breaking down because of Roblox is even more predatory and even more efficient. Basically something even more idiotic and reptile brain pleasing replaced Fortnite and the economic model that Fortnite invented has reached its limit but Bungie and Sony are still trying to follow it

So they never returned old content? To be fair I was not hoping but they could just bring pre-Beyond Light client at least.

Sucks that them keeping servers alive protects them from StopKillingGames. Which made me think what stops developers make final day patch removing 99% content even if SKG becomes a law? There is still like 80% of Destiny 2 not available and will be forever.

Also fun comment from reddit thread :story: :

SKG would not target Destiny as they explicitly carve out exceptions to 'live service' titles, in an attempt to make the movement as likely to pass/achieve anything as possible, which is the correct play I feel.
Bungo definitely would fucking delete everything again if it was possible though, fuck them.

Is that his wife/girlfriend trying to console him? Funny, but also understandable - probably living on his paycheck that depended on this franchise.
Hopefully she doesn't run away with Tyrone who bet on Warframe instead or something.

She also streams the game from what I remember, and she used to f u c k i n g w o r k f o r b u n g i e.

They also had Bungie employees fucking texting them, checking up on them in relation to the news. If they have that much insider access; where devs within the company are messaging them privately, and even then, they weren’t given advanced notice, then this decision was either kept under lock and key or it was made 3 days ago. Either option is a wonderful insight into the incompetency of this studio.

Didn't know that, interesting

As a side note, I can't wait to hear what Skeletor has to say about this
The Skeletor video is going to go so fucking hard, it’ll more kino than the universe can handle.

that was invented by Fortnite
lol. It was much earlier than that. Valve and Riot were the ones who made the model popular and insanely profitable.
Valve also took it to the next level with the lootboxes and battlepasses.
also lol. "Good" live service games are still very popular, some a decade or more after their release. As for newer live-service, Arc Raiders was insanely popular, Deadlock is popular, Marvel Rivals is popular. Just because bad live-service games flop, doesn't mean that a "good" live-service is a 100% dead on arrival, or that the model is dying.

Destiny going down is actually kind of fucking huge. If something as popular and well funded as that can fail what chance do any of these other live service slop games have?

good games will always be popular. a shame that bungie is no longer capable of making one.

Yeah, If marathon was any good, it would've had a consistent 50k-60k players everyday and word-of-mouth would've carried it to bigger numbers, possibly bigger than the release date peak if the rest of content updates were also good. Most live-service games hit their peaks years, if not seasons in their lifespans.

And there it is, the axe we fucking knew was coming for the trannies and niggers. Downsizing to make room for the Sony devs and/or the full acquisition and dissolution.

Fries. In. The. Bag. Suffah.

I’ve got some D2 friends, they’ve all instantly become bigger Marathon haters than I could ever be (b4 they were either ambivalent or disinterested). Good luck bungo!
My boy and I cannot stop sending steam charts comparison’s. Marathon is currently less popular than Bloon TD 6 and cookie clicker, WILD.

You are a fucking retard and subscribe to the owning nothing and being happy model, they can kill the server at any time and obsolete any and everything you spent into it

I personally want Valve to lose their lawsuit on "trading cards" so they stop making live service slop where idiots pay $27k for Jpegs wrapped around a mesh and I hate Valve as much as Epic Goyims in that regard so yes Fuck Valve too

Deadlock is tumblr art dreck and for soylords and fujoshis who masturbate to mpreg, I want fucking Half Life 3 and I do not want Catherine's character smut design turned into a game and its for a certain kind of gooner

I want cool armor and badass design, not the women who draw Harry Potter getting impregnated in games

There are enough attractive female characters that cumbrains can touch themselves to which is why Marvel Rivals is gay and appeals to neckbeards who have never taken a woman's clothes off, I want to live out a power fantasy in Terminus Armor or the Praetor suit

Bungie Plans Layoffs After Ending ‘Destiny 2’ Development

The Sony subsidiary will focus on ‘Marathon’ rather than jumping directly to ‘Destiny 3’

Sony Group Corp.’s Bungie unit is planning a significant number of layoffs as it ends development on the long-running online shooter game Destiny 2, according to people familiar with the studio’s plans.

The company doesn’t have a new project lined up for Destiny 2’s development team after the game comes to an end next month, according to the people, who asked to not be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak to press. Bungie doesn’t plan to immediately enter production on a Destiny 3, they said. The number of job cuts was not known.

On Thursday, Bungie confirmed that the upcoming June 9 update of Destiny 2 will be the final content for the game. The studio promised that it will remain online for players to access.

“While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2,” Bungie wrote in a blog post.

Bungie’s staff are looking to pitch and begin development of new projects, including in the Destiny franchise, but none have been greenlit and there’s no guarantee that any will move forward in a challenging market that has led companies like Sony to raise prices and cut costs. Headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, Bungie is one of the more expensive studios to operate, given the cost of paying tech-savvy workers in suburban Seattle and the longevity of its staff.

Bungie is also investing more in the extraction shooter Marathon, which has not met sales expectations since its March release but which the company hopes will expand its player base over time. The studio has moved some staff from the Destiny team to Marathon in recent months.

A representative for Sony didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Destiny was once one of the most popular games on the market, generating more than $500 million in revenue when it launched in 2014 and inspiring countless imitators. In 2017, Bungie put out a sequel, and after parting ways with publisher Activision Blizzard Inc., the studio decided to continuously update Destiny 2 with new content and expansions rather than release further entries in the franchise. The results were mixed, but millions of players stuck with the game, which became free-to-play in 2019.

In 2022, Sony purchased Bungie for $3.6 billion, and in subsequent years the studio laid off hundreds of employees and canceled several projects including Payback, a game set in the world of Destiny that was envisioned as the future of the franchise. Bungie released an expansion that appeared to conclude the game’s story, The Final Shape, to rave reviews in 2024. The player count has dropped significantly since then. The most recent release, a Star Wars-themed update, brought in a fraction of The Final Shape’s players.

Bungie’s leaders had talked about ways to retool Destiny 2 to make it more approachable for new players, but earlier this year they instead decided to end development of the game, partly to shift resources to Marathon.

Holy shit I did not know you people still existed

We will never die or go away, people theorize the Steam Machine will bring it into existence

Valve is too pozzed to do anything cosmic horror like the Nihilanth now and wants soft tumblr coded games where tumblr femcels will draw the pale vampire man as pregnant and nobody in chat will call you a nigger

I like Boomer shooters in general and love those old hypermasculine style of games and Half Life fits into that alongside Doom and Halo and the most mature live service slop games get is horny character design which I just do not care about

I beat Forgive Me Father 1 and 2 recently and absolutely loved both

In principle, those other live service slop games aren't tied to constant drains of overly large headcount, super-expensive office rent in a large downtown Seattle building, and ill-conceived executive ambitions for the studio, all of which drained the (quite large) amount of money D2 brought in away. Microsoft didn't buy Bungie back because they saw the money was being burned too quickly.

Moral of the story, you can't just look at revenue.
