Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Second trailer's premiering right now!

It still looks promising. People in the chat are complaining about girlboss Peach but it makes me think of the old Nintendo Power Mario comics where she was probably the most competent member of the cast. Don't like how much of a klutz Mario is but I'll let it slide. I prefer DK's 3D design but I like how the movie one gives nods to how he originally looked. Also fuck yeah there are Yoshis in this film!

Overall I'm probably going to see it when it comes out.
Honestly this looks way better than it has any right to be, considering illuminations track record with making safe predictable kids movies, the visuals and designs genuinely fit the lore of the Mario universe and while not really a fan of the voices It looks like it’s actually trying hard to be a fun and entertaining movie for older fans and the children still playing it. I’m also pleased as fuck they’re including Mario Kart and Galaxy stuff in this, Good to see Illumination seem to actually be trying with this film.

I hate voice acting, it's just too contemporary. Peach is surprisingly tolerable but Mario and Luigi? Mario just lacks energy and fuck sake they should have Italian accents, that's like one of the best know aspects about them. What do people in Hollywood have against none native English speakers? Accents are natural part of having multiple languages in the world.

Also Bowser just doesn't sound intimidating. I know he has a strong comical side that includes him being kinda pathetic but he is also the big bad, he should sound like it.

I guess I'm an old asshole, but definitely wasn't feeling this one. Especially since they're making Peach more of a hero than Mario.
dont forget that mario is a bit of a retard, he just runs into castles to find a princess and 7 out of 8 times there is only toad waiting fot him...

It's been a long time since I've seen the 90's cartoons, but was Peach compitent in those as well, or was she kidnap fodder most of the time?

Peach has been useful from time to time ever since Paper Mario, wtf are people on about?
I think people are afraid that she going to be stronger and better than Mario practically every way and need no man. So a boring girl boss that we have too much these days.

Also it's not really who Peach is. Now she has kicked ass a long time but she has needed rescuing that whole time too and she is always grateful for it. In most Mario lore Mario is a stronger fighter than Peach and that's why he rescues her more than she rescues him. She isn't useless or particularly weak but Mario is her hero and bodyguard because she needs the help. That's their dynamic.

Holy fuck, I'm surprised the people behind the Minions were actually able to put out a good fucking movie for once.

Peach's "girlboss" moments don't even bug me as much as they would in other media, since she's already been trending towards that since the 90s, with the cartoons, comics, and even SMRPG. I'm just sad that her ditzy side doesn't seem to be present. Hopefully she isn't full on Wyldstyle condescending and shows some optimism for Mario.

It's an isekai origin story so it's understandable that Mario, the fish out of water, wouldn't be as grounded as he is in the games.

I'm also just glad that this movie isn't ashamed of being a video game adaptation. Every video game movie made up until now has had some hack director drastically rewrite the original game's story because they don't see games as "art". This movie, however, owns the fact that it's a Super Mario Movie and seems to be cramming as much shit from the source material as possible. Yoshi's Island, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, etc.

THIS is how a video game movie should be done. There's no reason why Sonic should have to pal around with literal who humans in rural Montana, Cortana should possess Master Chief's body after he takes off his helmet and fucks the female version of the Arbiter, Mortal Kombat should have some audience-insert OC crammed into the plot, or Albert Wesker should be a black, lesbian-slaughtering single father of two zoomer tweens who watch Zootopia porn.

MovieBlob wins?

But humans were NPCs for almost every Sonic game, though (before they were essentially phased out).
They've since updated the lore to all the humans live on different islands to the furries. If we get another adventure game (which seems like a case of when at this point) I expect it to be similar to the original games, melodrama and all. IMO Sonic in the human world isn't a problem at its core, bad storytelling is. Thankfully, some tired roadtrip tropes aside in the first movie (and maybe the wedding in the second one) those movies haven't been too bad in the script department.

I really liked the new trailer. The visuals look great and the models are growing on me (I really like DK’s Donkey Kong ‘94-inspired design in particular). Chris Pratt’s Mario is pretty good; not great, though at least he nailed the “wahoo” at the end.
And I’ve seen some people concerned about Peach - and I get it - but I really like how she’s portrayed here. I trust that Nintendo won’t lean too far into the “girl power” thing and are simply saying she’s been the princess for a long time and knows what she’s doing (though her getting kidnapped about halfway through would make for a much more interesting movie; the fish out of water student now has to surpass the master).
I wish there was less slapstick and that Peach had a slightly higher voice, but overall, I’m impressed.
