Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Okay.

Anyway, it’s impressive what a good marketing campaign can do to change people’s opinions on a film. Seems the trailer got it a lot of goodwill for people who were kinda on the fence about it.

I’ve seen it theorized that the movie will start with the Bowser scene from the original trailer, only for his “now who’s gonna stop me?” like to be followed by the Super Mario Bros Plumbing ad, which would fit rather well, I think.

i'm just hoping for a fun movie. i saw sonic 1 in theaters and it was fun.
As long as it's not a reference-fest I think it'll go over well. The thing about the Sonic movies is that they're grounded in the relationship between Sonic and Tom+Maddie or Tails and Knuckles and so there's enough heart there for them to leave a lasting impression. Mario will obviously be a different type of movie, so I worry about it being a one and done sort of flick.

Main thing I’m worried about with the film is it seems like the plot is gonna be going at breakneck speed. We’ve got the Mario plot, the Mario Kart bit, the whole thing with DK setup, the Smash Bros bit, stuff with Luigi…that’s a lot to cover in a short amount of time.

The film's biggest objective issue so far is that it seems to be both a commercial for all of Nintendo's shit and a glorified trailer for their potential Nintendo Movie Universe.
I liked the latest Super Bowl ad; it had soul and seemed to come from a genuine fondness for Mario Bros, but I feel the bean counters don't care about that for the movie: "It's a kids movie! They can't understand shit anyway! Just have Chris Pratt say 'bing bing wahoo' and let that be the end of it. We got shit to peddle..."

Don't know if it was already said here, but apparently a Zelda movie is already being planned as well, if its true I hope to god it isnt being made by some american animation company, I would only accept one if it is being done in 2d by a japanese studio

Nintendo acts very different from other companies because they are autistic as hell... thats why their products always have been decent-

Why only 2D? The Legend of Zelda has been looking great in 3D for the longest.

Did you mean artistic? If not, then that's certainly one way to put it.

I prefer 2d, and I feel that fantasy setting just look better in it, zelda also is obviously trying to immitate a 2d style in the better looking games, wind waker and breath of the wild use cel shading so they obviously try to look more like a cartoon, skyward sword tried too look more like a painting.
Mario on the other hand once it jumped to 3d is when it developed its style and I think its how it looks best.

Fair enough but, realistically, the Zelda movie's going to be 3D animated. It's easier to do and is the most likely outcome considering how popular 3D animation is in the film industry.

I don't mind if an American studio works on it, personally. As long as the film looks good and has a good story, it shouldn't matter who made it.

I could accept it if it was the studio that made Klaus, a skyward sword movie with that style would look fantastic imo, also it wold make sense to make a movie about that one because its the first one no?

I'd be fine with that, assuming the plan with the Zelda movie (and any that may come after) is to just adapt the story from the games into a film and instead of making they're own canon like the Mario Movie.

Look on the bright side (aside with the random poster with ragebaiting, of course)

If this Mario movie does well even with Illumination by its side, I’d love to see a Wario based movie next. Wouldn’t you?
>inb4 Danny DeVito and Willem Dafoe finally get confirmed to play Wario and Waluigi respectively
Come on, it needs to happen

I still think Mario will be the final hero at the end of the day no matter how many characters may gang up on Bowser. Peach having her moments of being an authority figure I don't think will take away from the fact it's the "Super Mario Bros" and not "Super Princess Toadstool".
It's 100% this. Peach will be the more competent one at the start, when Mario is still in the fish out of water phase. Mario will probably fail at first, and want to go home, but at some point, Peach will lose to Bowser and get captured, so Mario will have no choice but to step up and become the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom
