Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Fuck man, I forgot movies used to have those still ads that played relaxing music. Made the experience that much nicer. Now you have all these politically charged ads and people sucking themselves off over their own movies now.
Going to a theater back in the days used to be a comfy as fuck experience, especially if you were a teenager. It was THE hang-out spot and fun date night (great for making out in the dark if you sat all the way in the back where no one bothered you). Once the still image ads went away it was just trailers for upcoming movies, maybe one or two theater promos (I know AMC would do that) and the obligatory "STFU when watching the movie" announcement. Then once Fandango became a thing, that was added to the line-up.

Hell, even LOGOS were made into a big fucking deal back then, and they were fucking awesome! As soon as you saw this shit, you KNEW yuou were in for something great!

I saw this opening before Labyrinth and I always remembered the owl swooping down over the town. Nope, that was just on HBO, not actually part of the movie. Not in theaters or on video (except my home recorded tape.)
I fondly remember the Regal cinemas ads. They recently, as of 2010, remade the original--subbing Coke for Pepsi (which may be regional) and adding cell phone warnings. Here's some vintage and modern versions compared:

If the ad wasn't a full remake, it does seem like Regal's marketing department took better care of their 90s CGI assets than Lucasfilm and Rareware. Sorry boys no HD Donkey Kong Country for you. No native 4k Star Wars prequels for you. Please enjoy giant Silicon Graphics popcorn.

I missed the old Regal policy trailers. Like a lot

I can't find the one "feature presentation" that was a roller coaster ride through 35mm film (was similar to the Regal one), but Harkins had this a little over 20 years ago.

I remember going to see No Time To Die because of peer pressure, It had 30 mins of ads. Not even trailers, just fucking ads basically being replayed, at loudest volume possible. Mind you, the film was 2 hr. 45 mins. (160 minutes) long already & shit enough on it's own that I didn't need another circle of hell to go through apart from watching that film itself.

lol when's the last time YOU'VE been to a theater?

Theaters have been gutting the inside of their rooms to make the experience just like, if not better than, everyone's home theater room (which is one of the reasons why people don't go to the movies anymore... why pay money for tickets when you can stream whatever the fuck you want inside your house for free) for quite some time now. This also includes the seating which are now couch recliners. It's part of the reason why tickets have gone up in price.

The downside (aside from TV ads being spewed in your face now instead of regular still images set to soft/jazz music) is that you can't even sit wherever the fuck you want. Once you buy the ticket, you are also assigned a specific seat as if you were attending a sports game or broadway show, which also means the closer you want to be to the screen, the more money you have to shell out.

Basically the theater industry has taken one step forward only to fucking fumble back a bajillion steps and make the experience unappealing to where who in their right mind would even WANT to go to one in the first place? Chicks don't even like it as a date idea anymore.
it might depend on the theater itself. I know some of them are one priced tickets that let you pick wherever you want to sit,

Sounds like you guys don't have an Alamo Drafthouse near you. I pity you. Speaking of James Bond, actually going to see From Russia With Love there in a few. Wonder what they'll show during the pre-show.....

If the movie had Adeline and Ribbon as major characters, I'd see it.

Also, who wants to be closer to a movie screen?
AMC Theatres in my town played a slide show of movie previews and concession food ads 40 years ago, set to whatever music they had on before they started their projectors. I saw that as the gold standard.

One Showcase Cinemas I knew was built in the 60's and once was a larger screen before they split it in half in the 80's but left the original curtains it had up in the main screen that automatically open and close during the presentations. That's how I saw E.T. in '82.

It's the aesthetics I miss. *sigh*

Speaking of movie theater policy trailers, here's the infamous Crown Theatres.
I only remembered this because my Neonopolis 14 (then reduced to 11 until its closure on May 2009) used to have it prior to Galaxy Theatres took it over by Fall 2006 until its closure on May 7, 2009. It was then transformed into a gay nightclub until its actual closure in 2012. Nowadays, Neonopolis has The Nerd bar, the karaoke bar, the Heart Attack Grill and a couple others, including a Denny's.

I tried to find the more infamous, more hated late-90s policy trailer with a poorly rendered CG lion singing its own parody cover of "Working My Way Back to You" by The Spinners, but has forever been lost media. I was told that it existed after all. Ah well, until someone is lucky enough to own its own digital or 35mm copy of said policy trailer, all is lost. Disappointing because I wanted to see some shitty PS1-like graphics the side of Lara Croft's pyramid boobs or even Pyramid Head.

But I will say that the Century Theatres policy trailer from the early-2000s still gives me the nostalgic goosebumps to this day.
This one was purchased by CInemark, also in the Fall of 2006.

And now it's just another brand name they love juggling about in their portfolio. I keep calling them by Cinemark instead of "Rave" in my area.

Fasten your seatbelts for a wild ride! #Birdo
I think Universal should build a Birdo land and 50 Birdo attractions, plus Birdo Cruise Ships, hotels, restaurants and parades.
-Shigeru Miyamoto

Ok this was a copypasta from Bob Iger talking about Captain Marvel but I can't put any funny images in for some reason

Yoshi, Birdo, Daisy and Roslina in the sequel. Do it Universal or Illumination.

So more stuff from John Leguizamo

And by the by

Sure. Whatever.
Oh please someone shut this spic up, he already got to do one Mario movie while Charlie day wasn't perfect I think he did a pretty serviceable job and I don't think John captures the same neurotic comedic energy Day has.

I have a very serious headache from that bitch ass wetback who won't shut the fuck up about the new Mario movie and "why it's not as heckin' good as muh 90s Mario movie." Sure, it's entertaining as a different movie on its own, but considering that the production was hellish and nobody except for Leguizamo ever had fun working on it, that it comes to no surprise that he would still simp and gloat about said movie 20 years later.

It's like he has amnesia and has forgotten all about the whole nightmarish production that he was involved in as one of the movie's main billing stars, like how he and Bob were drunk on set and almost got into a car crash, or how Hopper didn't even show up on set most of the time to record some dialogue or even read or act out from the scripts as provided.
