Finally got to see the movie today. With the way people were going on about "Girlboss" Peach I was expecting some particularly egregious shit, her characterization got a little eye-rolling at times (But to be honest so did her constantly getting kidnapped.) but it wasn't enough to pull me out of an otherwise enjoyable film. Let's be honest here, the main reason why the Mario movie came out as it did, it's because Nintendo were supposedly tardwrangling Illumination, i do hope this movie's success doesn't mean Nintendo won't keep Illumination on a tight leash for future projects, because like you said, there's probably people at Illumination studios seething right now because they weren't allowed to make Peach the main character and Mario a bumbling idiot.

I saw the Mario Movie, and it was a fun movie. It wasn't high art or perfect, but just fun. Honestly the only complaints I have aside from some obvious ones it that I wish Luigi and Bowser had more screentime, and they overused slow motion a lot that it became a bit annoying.

Saw the movie yesterday, pretty ok but holy shit that the movie moves at a light-speed pace, there's 0 room for scenes to breath and the way the movie constantly jumps from place to place makes some parts feel pretty disconnected from one to another. You can also tell which part was Illumination doing (the forced license music, the edgy luma, etc.) and which was Nintendo rejecting their retarded ideas (one of them being definitely girlboss Peach) but somehow it works, Luigi and Bowser deserved more screentime although. Something that I will give to the movie: is pretty, they really did an amazing job visually adapting stuff from the games and there's a lot of great landscape shots.

So yeah IMO, I think movie's biggest problem is that it puts a lot in the details but not enough into making the whole thing fit together but it's fine just as a fun movie with place to improve in the sequel (because it's going to happen, this shit already made so much burger coins to leave it as a one-off) hopefully as @Neet Tokusatsu says Nintendo won't get comfortable and let Illumination do whatever it wants we don't need more scenes with 80's music that don't fit at all.

Watched it. Aside from the quality of the animation it was pretty meh to me. I liked seeing all the little easter eggs but it wasn't nearly enough to make up for the story being beyond rushed. The only thing that managed to get a genuine laugh out of me was DK doing the Seth Rogen laugh during the arena fight.

Not seen it yet, not going to the cinema for it. By all accounts though both off here and real world people it's good and open to everyone even if it features the nods for nerds. So exactly what this sort of film should be. Good on them, I hope it does even better than it already is.

Theaters have been gutting the inside of their rooms to make the experience just like, if not better than, everyone's home theater room (which is one of the reasons why people don't go to the movies anymore... why pay money for tickets when you can stream whatever the fuck you want inside your house for free) for quite some time now. This also includes the seating which are now couch recliners. It's part of the reason why tickets have gone up in price.

The downside (aside from TV ads being spewed in your face now instead of regular still images set to soft/jazz music) is that you can't even sit wherever the fuck you want. Once you buy the ticket, you are also assigned a specific seat as if you were attending a sports game or broadway show, which also means the closer you want to be to the screen, the more money you have to shell out.

Basically the theater industry has taken one step forward only to fucking fumble back a bajillion steps and make the experience unappealing to where who in their right mind would even WANT to go to one in the first place? Chicks don't even like it as a date idea anymore.

it might depend on the theater itself. I know some of them are one priced tickets that let you pick wherever you want to sit, but it's still recorded in their system as your exclusive seat associated with that ticket, so if you're a last-minute buyer if its for a movie that's JUST been released, you wind up getting the shitty seats no one wants.

Just saw it today. It was alright and got a few chuckles out of me, but it reminded my of why I don't go to the movies anymore.
My favorite character was the depressed Luma. Wish we had more Luigi. I'll never understand why vine-swinging apes have karts, but OK. Gotta shoehorn in Mario Kart, I guess.

Probably another kiwi has made this connection, but to me it seems like they decided to roll up Peach, Daisy and Rosalina into one. The girl boss moments could've been turned down a bit. At times, it looked more like a Super Princess Peach movie rather than a Mario Bros. one.

Yeah that was undoubtedly Illumination's doing, like i said before, i hope Nintendo will keep their grasp on Illumination's neck in order the keep them in check, because i'm pretty sure there's more than a few people at Hollywood who would love to make a "Birds or prey but with Nintendo characters" kind of movie if given the chance.

Fuck man, I forgot movies used to have those still ads that played relaxing music. Made the experience that much nicer. Now you have all these politically charged ads and people sucking themselves off over their own movies now.
