Poor Grant...

You know how when a successful game gets released and it does well with the general audience but hack journalists try to shit on it for dubious reasons? This sounds exactly like that.

Some of the critics have good points about what it lacks, but I can't help but think that RT is specifically looking for bad reviews to paint it as a bad movie. Most of the people talking about it on Youtube are loving it. 55 percent is too low, and it was 46 percent earlier. I know RT has been caught messing with review scores (and collecting reviews based on a thumbs up or thumbs down to create an average is disingenuous as all fuck), but why would they do that with this movie? Something's off.

If you're not into G-rated movies, animation or Mario, then odds are you won't be seeing this movie. The fans of Mario seem to really like it, and pretty much everyone saying kids should enjoy it, which is another way of saying it's for all ages. Movie critics are the type that want to see films that grandstand on issues they care about, but a lot of the negative one's I've seen admit that they're not the target audience.

I'm on the shitter mid-hanging out with friends but when I opened YT on my phone I was greeted with this, tell me how ridiculous it is.

Woke Critics Can't Stand Mario!!

so everyone doesn't have to click the link and get this shit in their recs.

First 10 seconds, admits he hasn't seen the movie yet but fully knows the movie isn't woke yet. Looks at RT to say critics loved Lightyear, but if you look at Meta critic the Metascore is 60, which tells me most critics were mixed on the movie, the Mario right now is at 49 Metascore so not that far off.

I am watching the movie tonight with my family, it has to be at night because all the other showings are the latam dub.
I am not expecting to like it tbh, it looks like a generic kids movie with a mario skin, and it is made by illumination, so it will have cringe humor and shit music.

Pretty dissapointed on Miyamoto that he relented to some cocksucker named Dave who told him that "you can't have a damsel in distress to market this!" or "kids love pop music, they won't get that instrumental shit from your slant eyed composer!". I imagine it will do decent enough though.
I mean, this is the same Miyamoto that steralized his own games for a long time because he didn't like where Mario was headed right around 2007, so I wouldn't put it passed him if he got cold feet in regards to making it 100% like the games and changed up a few things, especially if other people told him it was a good idea.

The one that caught my attention the most, because it was the first one I saw, was made by Mutahar/SomeOrdinaryGamers.View attachment 4983016
Say what you want about Mutahar here, but he has a good point here. Never trust a website that gave the Disney era Star Wars higher ratings than Spaceballs.
I hope this bombs worse than the 1993 film.
Doubtful. Illumation's movies tend to suck, but they're incredibly marketable, which explains the box office success with each individual movies, despite the quality of either.

Animation studio known to make horrible films for retarded children makes a shitty film that only turbo autistics deep into culture wars are daring to defend. What a surprise.

A lot of people kinda love the 1993 movie.
I don't think it's a good movie, but rather a shitload lot of interesting ideas, poorly jumbled together with absolute insanity and forced namedrops.
The idea behind goombas sound lime something straight out of a good doctor who episode, while Trump Koopa saying "monkey" is just as unintentionally hilarious as Arnold's mr freeze.

It was fine. I don't know if I'd bother watching it again, but it wasn't offensively bad. I agree 100% with the narrative issues though. Sonic may have had a bland and typical "CGI creature on a roadtrip" story, but it also had Jim Carrey to fluff up the quality. Not to mention Sonic's VA absolutely clowns over Chris Pratt (who was also fine, but outshone by Charlie Day and Jack Black).

I'm still waiting for the budget to drop. Someone may have taken advantage of Japanese naïveté to get them to make Peach more of the main character, but I just want to know if Illumination was allowed to financially cut corners or not.

Mario movie is good for Illumination cost cutting, all the toads and other stuff will use the same models
