Welp Texan governor Greg abott just lifted the mask mandate and opened up Texas 100%. And yes RT people are saying some dumbass shit.
Fucking idiots like they don’t understand some businesses are bleeding money currently. And maybe they don’t understand that while the mask mandate has lifted that doesn’t mean private businesses and bars can still order you to wear one. How fucking brain dead can you fucking be. like if you want to continue wearing a mask that your choice and if you don’t want to then you don’t have to as well. If you don’t like it here in Texas then GET THE FUCK OUT I’m tired of their constant bitching and moaning about small dumb shit like this.
Maybe just maybe people are right to be upset at a bad decision over something that has killed over half a million Americans. It's almost as if a lockdown and a mask mandate aren't the same thing, but here you are crying over businesses as an excuse for lifting a mask mandate even though the two have nothing to do with each other. There is literally no reason to lift a mask mandate besides pandering to the freedum circlejerkers who don't even have the willpower or humanity to wear something on their face outside their home to reduce how many people die in a pandemic, and who take it as a personal attack on their liberty to be told this. All this does is give even more people and businesses like you the excuse to not give a shit about wearing a mask and spread it even more.

It's easy to spot the people who have not been personally affected by all of this, or people who are just incredibly stupid. Well done regurgitating the idea that not wearing a mask only affects you and that wearing a mask will keep you safe from those who don't. Huh, weird how there are other places that enforce mask wearing. I wonder why that could be

How much further into the sunk cost fallacy do you need to go before you reverse course? If mask mandates work why did two weeks turn into possibly two years? Why does stupid policies in New York that has done nothing to stop the spread of infections have to be adopted by Texas?

I'm not sure what kind of sunk cost is present with telling people to wear a mask?

Say what you want about Rooster Teeth or the people who work there but at least publicly denouncing a shit politician for a pointless and dangerous decision and making people aware of it is a good thing.

Mask mandates don't carry zero cost. Firstly you need to enforce them, if you didn't then the mandate has no power. That means diverting law enforcement from other duties to charging businesses for not following the mandate. Masks also do not materialize out of thin air, They do carry a cost in the long run.
The masks also justify even more authoritarian mandates down the line. If the government can use emergency powers to order you to wear a mask they can use that same authority to order you to not travel or to close your business. Those things carry inherit costs as well.
This is a sunk cost fallacy because we've been keeping this up for a year now, with the end still not in sight, and there's no correlation between mask mandates and excess death rates.

Finally some common sense.
Sometimes kiwi farms makes me feel like I'm reading the script of a Borat movie.

I'd probably put most of it down to most countries absolutely bungling the entire thing over the past year. Turns out giving your population contradictory and ever changing rules will make controlling it next to impossible, will make a lot of people give up on trying, and extend everything so that this sort of cost you described increases.

they can literally already do that whenever they damn well please. a mask mandate won't change that.

So if it's impossible not to bungle the situation why put more time and resources into it? Every time a nation has been held up as an example they eventually have shit hit the fan as well. First it was Germany doing better than the US, then Germany had a massive outbreak. Then it was Australia, then cases there began to rise and you had cities go into month long lockdowns. Same thing is now happening in New Zealand, they were held up as an example, now they've had to go into lockdown twice in a month and people are getting pissed.

Theoretically the government could shoot you today and get away with it. The social contract though involves government overreach being met with public contempt and resistance. But by getting their foot in the door with mask mandates the government can begin enacting more and more stringent mandates with the excuse of protecting you.

You're saying the situation in New Zealand is as bad as in the USA?

Sure, man.

Unless there's a vaccine that gives actual immunity rather than just resistance, or New Zealand goes into eternal isolation, they'll have to eventually open back up, in which case they'll have a inevitable mass outbreak just like Europe did

They already do that. The constant monitoring that Snowden exposed was way more of a "foot in the door" and a blatant infringement on your rights then making you wear a scrap of fabric on your face. and guess what? everyone let it slide. the mask mandate is child's play and anyone pitching a fit isn't focused on the actual bad shit the government does on a daily basis.

fucking conspiratards, man.

That's an example though of how the government uses public paranoia to increase its authority. They use the fear of terrorism to get a window into your private affairs and greater control over the banking system. Now with Covid they'll get a greater control over where and how you're free to travel. This isn't because there's a conspiracy to be evil, but because the greater the authority the easier it is for them to do their job of maintaining order and stability.

Again, that's also already been done - the security theatre and travel bans to/from certain countries have already been there. There was a set of brief restrictions from COVID, but they were lifted in mere weeks. They don't need a pandemic or a mask mandate to do this. The slippery slope argument doesn't work when we've been tumbling down this hill since the 90s, at minimum.
Honsetly, the site can amount to either right wing promotion or some "enlightened centrist 'both sides are shit'" thinking when it comes to the topic of politics.
It's a symptom of being a website that's very anti-censorship. People who want to voice opinions that got them banned from other platforms gravitate towards websites like this.

So the fire is already raging so let's add more fuel unto the fire?

No, the fire is raging, but not everything the government does is fuel.
Except two weeks turned into two years.
People would have fucking flipped if you told them that they would likely be wearing masks at work until 2022.
I'm not going to excuse the mandate which is going to have you wearing a mask at the airport from now on as you're taking off your shoes and presenting your ass cheeks

It was supposed to be two weeks of lockdown, not two weeks of pandemic. It's almost like wearing masks on it's own won't instantly fix a worldwide pandemic, even if it decreases the risk of it spreading. You're ignoring just how many people and companies completely disregarded the mandate because the government pretty much completely failed to meaningfully enforce it.

If a private business want to enforce wearing masks that's entirely in their right. Don't like it? Don't give them money. But that goes both ways, if a private business doesn't want to enforce wearing masks, that's also entirely in their right. Don't like it? Don't give them money. If a person thinks it's too dangerous to go outside, they don't have too. If a person thinks it's safe or they are fine with the risks, they can leave their homes. I fail to see where the government (local or federal) has the right to enter into these personal decisions.

But I'm a retard rolling in the schadenfreude of an internet clown group I used to enjoy, so what do I know.

If the government was incapable of enforcing it they should never have made the mandate in the first place. Instead you got the worst of both worlds and now you've got people screaming murder because state officials are calling the mandates off after having negatively impacted the public for months
