For 13 straight years, the port has led the nation in importing and exporting cars and light trucks.
The port supports about 15,300 direct jobs, according to the state, and another 140,000 jobs are linked to activity at the port. Just last month, state officials noted multiple records set in tonnage and value of cargo, which they said was a continuing rebound from pandemic-induced economic woes and supply chain issues.
Salling serves on a transportation subcommittee in the General Assembly and said eventually there will need to be serious considerations about repairing and replacing the bridge – a massive and expensive task that’s difficult to fathom at the moment.
“I believe it will take a very, very long time,” he said.
It was 50 years old, not old for a bridge. How old was this bridge again? Was it already overdue for replacement due to structural fatigue?
They'll build a new bridge and rename it "The Harriet Tubman Bridge" or the "Obama Bridge" or "Nigger Worship Bridge".Ideally they'll build a better bridge, but that will still take a lot of time and money. I can't imagine them just washing their hands of a route that long and important.
I think the sad part is all the dead people, but I know what you're trying to say and you're right. They'll never figure out how to rebuild that bridge. That's the sad part. It's just fucking gone.
Since the ship lost power I think it's definitely more on the ship's crew/company for shitty maintenance most likely. Not like a harbor pilot can do much when the ship doesn't have any propulsion.Looks like a Pajeet crew involved (harbour pilot would still be piloting the ship tho)

You fucking joke but the Governor just said "Its going to be a build thats going to require every facet of our society, we are going to make sure its not just rebuilt, but that we are going to rebuild in a way that remembers the people this tragedy has effect, and also honors the community it serves."They'll build a new bridge and rename it "The Harriet Tubman Bridge" or the "Obama Bridge" or "Nigger Worship Bridge".
Why not drop the anchor?Since the ship lost power I think it's definitely more on the ship's crew/company for shitty maintenance most likely. Not like a harbor pilot can do much when the ship doesn't have any propulsion.
Why not drop the anchor?
I thought it was confirmed that they did?Why not drop the anchor?
It’s Baltimore, right? Call it “The Ray Lewis Bridge”. Or “The Ed Reed Bridge”.They'll build a new bridge and rename it "The Harriet Tubman Bridge" or the "Obama Bridge" or "Nigger Worship Bridge".
Yeah. They said it was going 8 knots. Im not a boat person but I assume something that big doesnt just suddenly stop.
Thanks for confirming a newfound fear of being under high bridges. One of my worst fears.
You can see lots of cars on the bridge, those poor people.
I'm a engineering student, this shit screams either poor upkeep or poor design who doesn't account for redundancies, which is a e key aspect of civil engineering.
I was about to post just this, its not even the longest bridge in the US. Pensacola has a 3 mile bridge to Gulf Breeze that's significantly longer. This is not the world's 3rd longest bridge.
