Disaster "Mass casualty incident" declared after Key Bridge in Baltimore collapses

No article yet as this just happened, but could be big. One of the largest bridges in the world according to Wikipedia.

Tell me you have a confirmation bias without recognizing you have one.
Seriously. have you not heard of the Costa Concordia? El Faro? The Titanic? The Edmund Fitzgerald? There are plenty of shipwrecks with perfectly white guys at the helm, and the fault for those accidents is not attributed to the race of the sailors.
Here, journoswine:

TL;DW - Indonesian ferry company crammed 4000+ people onto a ferry legally permitted to carry 1500. Meanwhile, a subsidiary company of Big Oil employed an incompetent crew on an oil tanker and put them under the command of a man who was not even rated to captain a tug. Nobody was on watch on either ship that night, all too busy drinking and partying, IIRC one of them was running without their fucking lights, they collide, and 4000+ people die screaming as a result. Tell me: would this happen in any First World country in the modern era? Not "oh the migrants in the Med scuttled their own ship to try and force the Coast Guard to rescue them and then drowned cuz none of them could swim and they had no life preservers," but big ships whose crews give not a single fuck about the rules and regs for passenger capacity, loading, safety, etc.

Now, contrast that with this Eastern European ferry disaster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJW61NXKPzU

TL;DW - Ferry from the Baltic states to Finland, carrying no more than it is rated to for either cargo or passengers. While sailing in a storm, and the heavy seas warp the bow shield that keeps the roll-on/roll-off ramp for vehicles from becoming a giant gangplank for waves. Captain/crew on the bridge are a gaggle of tards who don't investigate despite "that shit ain't right" sounds coming from the bow and optimistically thinks that since the ramp indicator light didn't go off, nothing's wrong. She floods, capsizes, and sinks. Whether more people were killed by drowning (trapped on the ferry by her capsizing, not lack of life preservers) or the cold (it's the fucking Baltic in cold weather in a storm) is debatable.

Tell me, which incident is more likely to occur in a country where bribery and graft are rampant and will let people with the deepest pockets do whatever they fucking want?

Fwiw I don't think the "third worlders" have a poor safety culture because they're being lazy and negligent, I think their planes and boats are in crappy condition because it's the best they can get their hands on, and transportation is a necessity.
This is materially untrue. Almost all global shipping at this point is run "by the third world". All global shipping is flagged in shit holes with no standards, and manned by the brownest dumb asses to ever walk off a dock. Who probably can't even swim. The issue is not a lack of resources. None of these boats are run by any of the governments involved in their flagging and crewing. They are all run by massive international consortiums universally based in either East Asia, Europe or North America. They don't lack for parts and supplies. What they lack is a crew manned by people who give a shit.

It is also important to keep in mind this is a new phenomenon in just the last 40 years. The shipping industry got by by using legacy sailors and officers to command and direct their crew of illiterate mongoloids. Unfortunately those people have died or retired. Meaning the Mongoloids are now in charge of these boats and the rate of incidents is spiking logarithmically. This isn't the worst things can get yet.

This is only the start.

Hypothetically could we be looking at a scenario where global shipping collapses and it becomes necessary to build locally?

I wonder how they will go about clearing it so they can reopen the channel fully?
Lots of work to do. They need to clean the harbor of leaked fuel and other liquids from the ship. Remove the debris and pieces from the bridge and the ship. Remove the cars and trucks from the bottom of the channel that fell off of the bridge and try to contain any leaking fluids from them as well. Once the way is clear they will need to move any trapped ship in the port (reports are ten large ships are now locked in place). And those ships are losing their companies millions every week just sitting there.

Then while all of this is being done they need to reroute every ship coming into this port most likely for months if not years. Make plans for rebuilding the bridge and likely revitalizing the port with new projects while it is mostly shut down. Then finally build the bridge, rebuild parts of the port, and put new safety precautions in place to prevent an incident like this from happening again. And they might even suspend road travel on the bridge when ship crossings are being done just to assure drivers and pedestrians.

Oof.
Protip: 9/10 times someone says "plenty of" in a serious argument, they're fucking retarded.
If you want to complain that I pulled that out of my ass, I could have just said "plenty of posts that say that unironically are retarded."

If you are talking about the MS Estonia the bow shield was intact when it went down. It suffered no damage from the waves that night. The bow shield was salvaged and brought to the surface after the sinking, and there were no scrape marks below the visor arms or scrape marks on the starboard lifting hydraulic cylinder. Indicating that it was likely still intact and connected to the ship when it went down.

But there was a huge hole in the starboard side of the ship about 10 feet by 3 feet in size that let in water well below the waterline. That's why it sank and listed so quickly. Because a 30sqft hole had opened right into the sea and water flooded in rapidly. You can see the hole in the videos that some documentary groups have shot of the ship laying on the seafloor over the years. The MS Estonia sinking site was marked as a grave site and diving and filming was not allowed (probably still isn't) but a few teams have taken enough footage that has been made public over the years.

To give you an idea of how big this hole was, the iceberg damage that sank the Titanic was around 12sqft. The hole in the Estonia was nearly three times the size. The notion that the bow shield failed and took in water is not possible because of how the list developed. The Estonia suffered a massive impact on its starboard side below the waterline and was listening 90 degrees within the hour. The rupture caused her to take on water and heavily list to starboard then sink once she had taken on to much water.

So in today's better news, looks like some old ass maritime law is probably going to keep the companys/freighters on the hook for the bill (and not joe tax payer). In a perfect world, the state government should immediately start cleaning/re-building, and have those company's foot the bill once their inevitable appeal/legal objections have been told to go fuck themselves. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy would not allow for that, and i predict they wont start building for another 6 months to a year.

With this, east-palestine (OH), boeing etc, these companies need a serious kick in the ass on what limits they are being allowed to exceed, and amount of disrepair they are allowed to ignore. Im all for the free market to free market, and not overly regulate in general. That being said, there should always be a stop-gap on corpo scum lords being able to put the public in harms way so that they can get that sick quarterly bonus. Theres nothing, at this point in my life, i hate more than companys doing whatever the fuck they want, because nobody has the balls to reign in on them. These fucksticks are the leading drivers of cultural and economic degradation, and nobody wants to elect a leader that will draw and quarter them in the county square the moment they step a toe out of line. Why? Because we cant fucking stop talking about immigrants, camel jockeys in the middle east, and the rainbow brigade.

This isnt even a trump v biden issue; both have been dogshit on corpo treachery and cozied up reeeal quick for those campaign dollars. The next guy who leads his campaign with "i dont give a flying fuck about social causes; im going to buttfuck every corrupt fortune 500/infrastructure company into submission"; he will have my vote.

I'd take a million spics over 1 Pajeet. Their culture is more willing to learn and assimilate, or at least live parallel to Western society. They also have similar family values.

Pajeets will just make the West the new India.
Over here in the UK we have pajeets more British than the average white guy. Maybe it’s because we play cricket or something.

I know dunking on poos is what the thread is doing, but don't harbors have their own ship pilots to help out when vessels are in or outbound from the docks, precisely just to avoid shit like this from happening?
They do, and they were on board for this operation.

However, the most likely reason for this fiasco until we have a full report is that the pilots were doing everything right, then they lost power, and some amount of steerage. The pajeet maintenance would then be front and center.
