MAE is 47 GB? it's not even that long a game. Does it have tons of unoptimized cutscenes and sound files or something?

One guess is that they lost that touch. Beyond that, the games they made also had the involvement of others who gave time and effort to code, model, and the like with the games they made.

I would definitely agree with that. I think a lot of them develop some pretty ridiculous egos, and I mean the way the gaming press treats them I can certainly see why. But I think it's something you can come back from, usually after hitting a wall hard. John Romero's a good example- he got hyped up a lot even before he left iD to form Ion Storm, and ego was one of Daikatana's many, many problems. But he seems to have turned the corner on that part of his life by now. So I guess there's some hope for the rest of them...

Probably for the same reason once great authors do: once they get popular enough to flip the traditional power dynamic on it's head, they effectively gain license to do whatever the hell they want. Freed from all artistic limitations and heads inflated by massive popularity, they launch out in any direction they feel like, with predictably disastrous results. Peter Jackson went from schlock horror to one of the best fantasy epics ever committed to film to bloated, interminable SFX messes, and he's a mild case.

The whole game's basically a bag of shite thrown together by fanfiction people, of course it's unoptimised. EA couldn't wait to get that fucker through the door.

Which films would those be? He's not actually directed anything that got released since 2014's The Hobbit films which were a mess for a whole different set of reasons and the studio being arseholes and not giving him any time when Del Toro dropped out. Instead he's become a bit more involved in stuff like his own WETA workshop who's miniature and CGI work is increasingly being used in many films, TV projects and even making random cool shit for customers if you have the cash. (They made the new well received Thunderbirds series and are involved in a new Gerry Anderson production).

His next two releases are going to be They Shall not Grow Old an extensive WW1 documentary using carefully recoloured footage that has long been in the hands of the Imperial War Museum and Mortal Engines which is exactly the kind of insanity Jackson needs.

The thing I was thinking of was his King Kong remake. The Skull Island sequences would have been cool in small doses, but they go on, and on, and on... on screen, Kong was fighting three t-rexes and I was checking my watch.

Personally I like Jackson's Kong and never got the hate for it. Yeah it's a little bloated but it's still a well-made movie and I think it "gets" King Kong properly.

If we're gonna talk about creators similar to the Andromeda team, I think El Jorge would be more obvious. At this point it's clear to me he didn't actually give a shit about Star Wars. He just knew a new trilogy was coming one way or another so he decided to fart out the Prequels for a fat wad of cash.

Kong was good the first time but my god did I find it boring on rewatch. Jackson feels like he's missing rhe "brevity is the soul of wit", or was after LOTR.

I imagine Manveer plans to use the studio to elevate his media profile and influence to the next level by establishing himself as a "leader" much like Wu. Their game/s will be commercially unsuccessful but their dimwitted investors will foot the bill.
