I can understand people being butthurt over this forum for our "lack of tact" (i.e. not being censored) but I will never understand them saying that stupid shit about this forum doxing and stalking and swatting people. That shit happens on EVERY SINGLE SOCIAL MEDIA SITE. Just because they have specific targets and this forum doesn't discriminate so they can't feel safe in their chosen echo chamber they scream harassment. It's the most fucking hypocritical shit I've ever seen in my life.

Do they not understand the implication of this? Does nobody involved truly see the consequences?

Cloudflare already stated that after banning other sites they received immense pressure to take down different sites, especially ones involving marginalised people. They've just proven that they will, in fact, bend to that pressure because an individual with ill-will can deliberately post something that will get the site taken down. Can they not understand how this can so easily backfire? Cloudflare hasn't even just dropped services, its actively blocked the site.

What's stopping oppressive anti-LGBT governments from going onto pro-LGBT websites, making a couple of threats to life and then placing their considerable thumb on Cloudflare's neck?

What's stopping someone who simply just doesn't like a given community doing the same thing?

Not only is this precedent ridiculous, it's dangerous for everyone. If the tide turns on Keffals, which it may or may not, this exact tactic, supposedly one CF are aware of the implications of, can so easily be used against them. Same to the entire cabal involved.

This decision is dangerous, short-sighted, impactful and - worse - potentially irreversible.

He's either a liar, or someone (be it feds or within Cloudflare/the tech industry) is forcing him and his company to drop websites once they get enough bad press.

I think its likely the latter but I don't think its the feds or an insider, I reckon its troons pressuring the big companies that use Cloudflare to threaten to stop using it if KF stays up.

Yes. Those things happen "on" social media, but when they happen on a less censored place they don't happen "there": it's Kiwifarms itself who did it (like the hacker known as 4chan did it).

I'm pretty sure their entire statement was full of lies. Especially the part where they said this isn't because of the Twitter mob. Like you (and others) have said, they did this on the flimsiest fucking evidence. It's clear they were just itching to pull the trigger.

What I think really did it is that the tech industry is controlled by the progressive furry LGBTQ+ twitter pronoun crew, from the bottom-up, and they call the shots now. This applies even more so in the infosec community, which has been thoroughly subverted with this type of bullshit. And that's CloudFlare's primary market.

For every Matthew Prince that may believe in neutral/libertarian principles, you have a dozen people under him (or purchasing from him), from a newer era, who are SUBSTANTIALLY less gung-ho about freedom of speech and information than those of us who enjoyed the wild OG Web 1.0 (and early 2.0). Tech twitter was absolutely losing their fucking minds over CloudFlare hosting this site, and were actively moving away to competitors. As much as it sucks to admit, this was likely not an empty threat, and happening in large enough numbers that they determined it was an impact to their bottom-line and that they had to "cut us loose".

Still, an absolutely cowardly move on Matthew Prince's part, and I think he could have offered up more resistance than he did. If people like him are actually our best hope in the tech industry, then we're fucked.
