Unlike many in this thread I don't think Vickers is a psychopath or a hugely horrible person. He's just a naive boomer-like drama-enjoyer firmly out of his depth dealing with insanity, replacing experience and intellect with bravado and revenge tactics. His approach is much less than ideal, but very few people are prepared for even a crumb of e-fame let alone collision with the Lolcow of the Year Ethan Oliver Ralph. Ultimately I'd without hesitation call Vickers an attention-seeking faggot who doesn't understand what he's doing. That's a damning someone by faint praise if I've ever heard it. I too believe Matt Vickers cares for his family and accomplishes the bare minimum of being a father.
I just also happen to believe that he does a pretty shit job of caring for his family outside of his ability to provide financial support. He's not some inhuman monster without human emotions or empathy. The truth is much more mundane.
If not for the Ralph angle, Vickers would be an unremarkable, ordinary sort of shitty dad in a sea of shit dads. What makes Vickers remarkable is how Ralph exacerbates his subpar parenting skills and lack of emotional wherewithal to epic proportions. Vickers brings a lot of damage onto himself, Faith, and his family at large with his behavior and bad habits that he willingly exposes to public scrutiny and refuses to accept any responsibility for or change.

Personally I think some people assumed too much of Vickers, assumed he was any normal person who was having a great tragedy happen to him and his family. Fucked up people come from good homes, it can happen. She was lying so much, claiming she had to flee because she was being abused by him, I definitely felt sorry for him and initially believed he would fuck off once he got what he wanted. Most people realized early on he was a massive sperg; it's fucked up people fucking over other fucked up people all the way down.
