Several months ago during one of his cases against Ralph I watched a bit of one of his streams where he was bragging about how well he was doing because he had just sold a bunch of gold to one of his customers at over $2k/oz. At the time the gold eagles he was talking about could be had from every major online seller (APMEX, JMBullion, etc) for about $1800/oz. The writing was on the wall back then that his brick&mortar shop was not long for this world. People aren't going to be blatantly ripped off for very long. Precious metals prices are also very volatile so if you aren't steadily flipping in significantly high volume quickly its very easy to get caught underwater holding a very large bag.

I don’t see how he can compete being online only though. There is a significant boomer population who want strictly in person, off the books, cash/trade only transactions for their coin and precious metal dealings. It’s a niche economy but it has a dedicated customer base.

The trade online is big, fierce and streamlined. eBay is just coin dealers all day for miles selling shit. The metal/coin shop I know has been doing good business these last few years, and elections always bring in buyers wanting to "prepare for the tyranny of the guy we didn't vote for" which is why I think he blew his family's future on Ethan Ralph's corn harvest. The name change from Rocklin to Vickers makes me think this is just a tax thing. He's got liens, maybe this is just going to be a corporate switchover to avoid debt, which is a common enough thing to do. Switching from brick to online would make sense in the interim so they can still have some revenue coming in. But I can't imagine being a precious metals dealer out of your home. I mean, the last thing I would want is to have millions of dollars of stuff in the place where your family lives in case of someone deciding to go and burgle/rob.
