McDonalds - I'm Lovin' It

What are the good fast food places in the US? Please educate an ignorant gwailo like myself.
Depends on region and personal preferences. Only McDonald's, Burger King, and Taco Bell are coast-to-coast. KFC, Arby's, Long John Silver's, Pizza Hut, and Subway probably are, but I don't know for sure.

For fried chicken (not tendies) I've found KFC, Church's, and Popeye's all taste about the same. Chik-Fil-A is the best option for chicken sandwiches or tendies. Boston Market is the only rotisserie chicken fast food place so there's nothing to compare it too, I usually just buy mine at grocery stores when I want it.

For fried fish I'd just skip Long John's (only one in it's category to my knowledge) and go to a proper seafood restaurant, but if you had to have it grocery stores have better options.

Arby's, like Long John's and Boston Market, doesn't have anything to compare it to, to my knowledge. I can't say I've ever had a craving for it.

Out of the big four burger places (McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and Jack in the Box) Jack is my personal favorite. The burger tastes pretty good, and the curly fries and onion rings are excellent. Wendy's isn't bad, just not as good. BK used to be good, but some years ago they fucked with all their recipes and made it all suck. Their burgers used to be better than McDonald's, but it's been so long I don't know anymore. For McDonald's the burgers aren't very good, but the fries are much better than BK's.

The best burgers come from the more regional chains however. Culver's isn't national I don't think, but I'd personally rank them lower than McDonald's. The burgers are okay, but the fries are just crinkle cut grocery store fries, nothing special at all. Neither is the frozen custard. In-N-Out is purely a southwest chain, but they make excellent burgers and fries. More recently Freddie's has taken the number 1 spot for me, everything is so delicious there. They're the place that Culver's wishes they could be. Much fuss is made over Five Guys. I was unimpressed by the burgers and the hard, yet soggy, fries were absolutely disgusting. They're all over my city but you hardly see anyone in them so I don't know how they stay in business here.

There's a few other Mexican fast food places that aren't Taco Bell, but I haven't gone to any of them in god knows how long. For me it's like Long John Silver's, why bother going when there's a fuckton of full-blown Mexican restaurants in my city?

As far as fast food pizza goes I've always preferred Pizza Hut and found Dominoes to be fucking disgusting, about on par with what my elementary school cafeteria claimed was pizza. I've never tried Papa Johns. Pizza is probably the most hit or miss thing out there, I've gone to various places that have ranged from fucking amazing to on par with Dominoes. Pizza Hut isn't cheap either so it's not much more to go to one of my favorite pizza restaurants.

Subway isn't great, but got popular as the "healthy" option thanks to the ad campaign starring Jared the Subway pedo guy. I prefer to hit up a local chain for subs on the occasion I don't just buy everything at the grocery store needed to make my own.

Most of the above you cited have nationwide coverage or had at some point. I do miss Pizza Hut when they were still a sit-down restaurant than a delivery/carry-out operation. It felt more like a nice luxury when your parents took you to one or your sport team went to one when you won a game (or maybe lost one).

American Pizza Huts aren't sit-down anymore? We still have plenty of sit-down Pizza Huts in Canada. I think even the ones that are comboed with KFC and/or Taco Bell usually have a few seats.

A lot of them have closed down over the years. My town still has a couple left, most pretty much have become smaller carryout/delivery outlets in the past few decades. Sadly the familiar red roof has also been painted black as well in newer remodels. I suppose the Canadian ones hold out a lot better than down here.

I'd add in Five Guys, Checker's, or Jake's if you don't have Five Guys as good regional fast food options as well, since they're pricier but they're very good. I will disagree that Jack in the Box is universal though; they don't service my area so I'd have to pick Wendy's out of the remainder due to their Dave's Double being very nice. I've heard good things about In-N-Out too, but that's a West Coast and Southwest chain.

McDonald's just is more and more not worth it usually now, to the point where BK beats them in terms of going to a place like that now. Their sandwiches are too pricy for their quality and they have further sinned by making their breakfast menu last longer. Breakfast menus outside of Hardee's suck in terms of what you get for what you pay.

Most of the ones in my city are still sit-down locations. It could just be a local thing.

I didn't mean to imply that they were. Just that they're one of the big chains within most of the country. Believe me, I'd never seen a Jack in the Box before moving to Arizona. My first exposure to them was when they made the national news with the E. Coli incident.

Jack in the Box is nasty, and they've had more than one of those incidents. It seems like they have them every couple years.

My fast food opinions:

McDonald's: Love the fries, Big Macs, and McRib. Everything else is meh.

Burger King: I get a craving for a Whopper now and then. Otherwise, not a fan.

Checkers/Rally's: THE FRIES. OMG. The burgers and shakes are pretty good, and they have some nice 2 for $4 deals.

Taco Bell: 7 Layer Burritos, Crunchwraps, and Nachos Bell Grande are tops.

KFC: I love those Famous Bowls SOOO MUCH.

Pizza Hut: I think I last sat down in one about 15 years ago, and the salad bar had lettuce that looked like it was there since Reagan was in office. ICK

Wendy's: Their burgers are pretty good, and I adore the chili and Frostys as well. Their fries are meh, though.

Domino's: Pretty good pizzas. I like those chicken tender specials, especially the one with jalapenos and pineapple on it.

Papa John's: Used to be great until the last few years. Now their pizza is just so-so.

Chipotle: Essentially a Taco Bell with better, fresher ingredients and higher prices.

My friend's dad died the other day. He had a heart attack at his home and died. He was 59 years old. He ate Mcdonalds everyday of his life for 20+ years. Mcdonalds took his life. They sell unhealthy food. Its just as bad as the tobacco company. Both are addictive. And both end lives.
Mcdonalds promises good tasting food for low prices. What they don't tell you in the commercials is that eating food from Mcdonalds is very unhealthy for your body. When I was a child, I saw Mcdonald's commericals, they had kids running around and enjoying happy meals, and adults eating burgers. I would think, Oh I see this is what normal people like to eat. What I didn't understand at the time however, was how badly it was effecting my small body. I used to eat Mcdonalds occasionly. I stopped eating there entirely 2 years ago. My friends dad, sure after the movie Super size me he heard a few comments about Mcdonalds being unhealthy, but he just didnt know, he had no idea, that place had the power to take his life. Mcdonalds cares nothing about the customer's heath. All it cares about is being rich. My dad's friend gave Mcdonalds his money and his trust, and in return the monster stole his life. people are starting to wake up now in modern day. We have to start telling more people, "Hey look, eating at Mcdonalds today might not be such a good idea." We got to teach people the ways of healthy eating. Otherwise, no one will learn, and people who eat Mcdonalds will continue to suffer.

McDonald's fries are great at about exactly noon, or whenever the lunch hour is, when they're very busy and every order is right out of the grease. Let them cool for even a few minutes and they turn into crap.

I detest their food. Their fries however are the best. When I was a kid, I didn't care about how good the damn food was. Maybe because I was a kid and didn't care. R.I.P Orange HC Flavour. You will be missed.

If I had to choose a fastfood place, it be either DQ or Carl Jr's.

The cheesy bacon fries are surprisingly good, especially if you get them fresh (although really, that's true of all fries innit).
I learned a trick in reheating leftover fries when I use to get them from various fastfood joints. I normally wrap them in tin foil and throw them in the oven for a few minuets.

In the grimdark mirror universe that is the UK, BK fries are much better than McDonalds

KFC leaves the skins on now, and it's fucking delicious.

Also the Grand Big Mac Bacon is tasty as all fuck, and it's hilarious it got rushed out into the EU and UK because of them getting their asses whupped in court over Supermacs.
