Personally, I don't think the first two episodes came across as satire of the 50's and 60's sitcoms. Instead I thought they came across as a homage to those sitcoms. Not once did I think that the show was winking at the audience constantly, saying "lol this is so dumb, am I right?" Instead, the episodes played out like two actual episodes of Classic TV sitcoms, with some moments sprinkled here and there that remind the audience that something else is going on, too.
Anyway, I just watched this featurette. Apparently they filmed the sitcom episodes in front of a live studio audience. Yeah ... This is definitely a homage, in my opinion.
The story's payoff could totally fall flat on it's face, don't get me wrong. However, I love the hell out of the setup so far, and the show has my attention for now.
