Mega Man General Thread - Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection announced

There's an MMX mod for 30XX now but yeah.

Speaking of mods, this is a meme now:

God I hate people who talk in public about their need to coom.

I mean, obviously. People have been openly and vocally frothing at the mouth for the opportunity to rip assets from X DiVE and it's pretty transparent why.
They'd already ripped out all the assets from X DIVE years ago. They just make shitposts with them.

Pretty much. The models are pretty good for a mobile gacha but they're just used for porn, machinima videos, and then you sometimes get something weird like this:

I wouldn't mind cool mods for X DiVE offline, but miss me with that coomer shit.
I played Dive for like three days before the gacha formula drove me away, and during that three days I pulled some slutbot with enormous tits. Seeing that in a mega man game gave me a lot of feelings and none of them were positive.

Unfortunately, coomers make up about 99% of the gacha audience, and the remaining 1% is gambling addicts.

It was absolutely unholy seeing a bunch of Twitter posts at the EOS announcement saying goodbye to iCO because their coomer bait was going away.

Nobody wants to admit that coomer bullshit killed DIVE. It's why we got endless alts of Iris and iCO despite constant calls for something as simple as Glint Massimo.

To illustrate, the strongest offensive unit in the game is DIVE Armor Iris, and she whimpers out an "I'm sorry!" in a high voice with every usage of her overpowered skills. Who the heck does that appeal to?

Discordniggers are truly a plague. They just driveby spam coomershit whenever any megaman discussion is happening. Regardless of the site.

I liked Legends the most despite it being very clunky to play even for its time. But unlike most Japanese games, it actually lets you play the game in between exposition dumps and takes itself seriously enough. Though Roll Caskett's constant overemphasizing of the word "megaman" will never not feel like she's talking to an alien and not Megaman, the character you are playing.

It is true. It's one thing to make a joke, but a lot of these fellows are not joking and try to sneak things in under the radar. Even when they know for a fact that minors are around. And when no NSFW shit is enforced, they skirt just under it.

I still don't understand WTF Repliforce was supposed to be

Repliforce was formed by Dr. Cain to help with the rise of Mavericks. It was meant to be an auxiliary force comprised of reploids to help supplement the Maverick Hunters and defend humanity.

At the start of Mega Man X4, the higher ups of Repliforce were thought to have gone maverick and were thought responsible for the attacks that Magma Dragoon (a Maverick Hunter turncoat) launched against Sky Lagoon.

When X asked General (Repliforce leader) to return with him for questioning after the Sky Lagoon attack, he refused and proposed that he take Repliforce elsewhere so that the reploids wouldn't have to involve themselves with the politics of human/reploid co-existence. Keep in mind, humans and reploids don't have "equal rights" until Mega Man ZX, where equal footing is met by giving humans the ability to upgrade themselves with cybernetics while reploids are given operational time limits to bring them closer to humans in terms of life cycles and to give them a sense of mortality.

X and the Maverick Hunters took this as a coup d'état, setting off the events of the game. Of course, it all ultimately boils down to "OH SHIT ITS SIGMA". At the end of the game, General clears Repliforce's reputation by sacrificing himself to bring down Final Weapon (oribital laser) before it could fire.

X's story in X4 is irrelevant. The only things from X's side that carry over is the concept of him having limitless potential, and the Fourth Armor. The armor is even only because the one in X5 is canonically a copy made by Alia, so the original had to exist. Double for example is never mentioned again.

It's Zero's end that's basically what you're supposed to play it for, X's is an afterthought.

General sacrificing himself didn't do anything in particular to clear Repliforce's reputation, I want to say that's something the fans came up with to expand on how Signas showed up. A lot of the stuff on the MMKB wiki, which I think says that, is kind of made up, like a bit that was up there for a good long time about Zero being a "wounded soul."

fucking hell inafune, @Croaking Spider was just answering a question and he is correct about the ongoing videos that play in MMX4 which flesh out the repliforce.

Repliforce was basically a military, in contrast to the Maverick Hunters being paramilitary police. That's it.

That's why their deal is so confusing, they kind of just popped into existence for X4, and almost certainly to create a thing for Zero to angst over. The Japanese devs explicitly removed Cain from the games because they wanted to "focus on the robots."

It's not clear who established Repliforce or when, I don't even think the Japanese mentions Dr. Cain having anything to do with them at all, because as I said, he was removed. Him being involved is, as far as I remember, a complete invention of the English manual, though admittedly a good one.

I don't understand why you would make a reploid army when you don't even have the maverick problem under control, though.

Seems really fucking stupid. Same for giving them a fucking orbital laser and shit.

I dunno, I want to say the story really went off the rails with X4, but it's also kind of stupid in general that reploids were continuously being manufactured after going maverick became a thing. Like Dr. Cain was an old man as it was when he discovered X I thought, did reploids really become so invaluable in the few years(?) that they were around before becoming maverick was a thing?

The Maverick Hunters alone aren't enough at that point to deal with Mavericks. Repliforce is more like a standard armed force that follows a more militaristic chain of command and structure, while the Maverick Hunters serve as a smaller task force.

Keep in mind, "going Maverick" isn't limited to being infected with the Sigma virus. Any actions that violate Isaac Isamov's laws of robotics (a robot shall not harm a human or by inaction allow a human to come to harm, a robot shall obey any instruction given to it by a human) can be considering maverick.

Reploids are just the natural progression of robots in the Mega Man universe. The difference between reploids and prior robots is the capacity for free will and sentience. This capacity allows them to live as "people" instead of being built task-specific like the original Robot Masters.

A good bit of the lore driving the story is predicated by the theme of reploids wanting their own independence and rights apart from humans, while the humans grow increasingly weary of the rising risk of Mavericks. This really comes to a head in the Zero series, where survival has become a matter of meeting the needs of humans over the needs of reploids.
