I have one of these (as a partial kit) on the way; except left-handed, and in walnut instead of maple. "Poor-boy" means the stock lacks a patch-box and has a simple buttplate; the idea is that length-of-pull can be more easily adjusted.

But now that powder is near unobtanium, it's just gonna look good above the mantle.

Pyrodex should still be available (maybe?) - not quite the same though, nothing smells like burnt black powder.

make a patchbox separately that fits into the stock via sliding in from the rear when the buttplate is removed. dovetail the channel with a chisel to accept the matching patchbox. make two spacers - one before the patchbox and one afterwards. install the buttplate after inserting the spare-patchbox-spacer into the dovetailed channel to secure everything in place.

the buttplate holds the spacers and patchbox in place. if you need to shorten the stock, you shorten or remove a spacer as needed and then reinstall the buttplate and patchbox. for the patchbox lid, as long as you design the liner and hinge (and lid) of brass it should be easy enough to shorten it, especially with a decorative design that has set intervals in the decorative pattern every 1/4" or so.

this technique was used in German patch boxes in the 1600s, modified from a similar Austrian design.

Very nice..... but a little beyond my limited skill & tool set, and a bit much on a small rifle. It's only a little larger than an old Winchester pump .22, which is kinda what I was going for.

Also, I'm used to keeping everything on my waist or in a bandolier, so patch boxes don't feel natural. But I've been finding really nice stuff on Etsy of all places. Evidently a lot of Civil War reenactor/vendors use it, and their autism has resulted in decent gear that's easily equal to or better than the originals

the ACO is a CompM3 with a new name and some slightly better features (lighter, although slightly less durable) and longer battery life. the design is a bit dated even with the updates and you're better off with the PRO. although i'm old and still use an M68 so take that for what it's worth.

the Leupold Freedom is a result of lessons learned from the market failure of the Leupold HAMR optic, and is much more competitive from a price and feature standpoint. other than finding the Freedom kinda chunky, it does work quite well, and i do think Leupold has the right idea of a turret adjustable 1/4 MOA and a zero-stop ring. super handy if you want to move it around to different weapons or you have a specific zero you want to always return to. the 1/4 MOA click is better than 1/2 MOA if you plan on using a magnifier as well, with a very fine 1 MOA dot. i'm not personally a fan of the CR2032, which has a shorter battery life than the 1/3N or CR123A cells used by other red dots. no super low brightness levels for a PVS, but that's probably not important for most people using it.

the motion detection for on/off worked perfectly fine on the Leupold Freedom, and it stood up to 50 rounds of full-auto 7.62x51mm (dealer sample G3A4 with X-91 drum mag) just fine. for sub $300 without a mount (and a mount is cheap since the tube is 34mm and you can get that from anyone or use one you already have). if you buy the SKU that includes the factory mount, it is setup for absolute co-witness on an AR-15. the screw torq is surprisingly high at 65 in-lbs, so maybe use a QD mount if you want it to float between rifles.

Don't know if this is the place to post this but whatever. Had a Fudd (or troll) randomly recommended to me on YouTube.
He has a raging hateboner for the AR-15 and everyone who has one.
But wait, what gun does he recommend? Well, the Taurus Raging Judge of course!

I heard about/saw this oxygen thief back in my /k/ days, and remember him getting pilloried in effigy.

Dumb fake hick poseur.

I'm still half convinced that was a troll to rile up as many gun owners as possible. I mean his pfp is even the ancom flag reversed (though maybe I'm reading too much into that one).

i mean, i kinda thought the video was just a high effort joke...
I'm back and forth between genuine and troll personally. His persona's definitely over the top but I guess I just don't expect a troll to look up 5 videos worth of biased statistics for a joke. Maybe I'm just setting my expectations too low.

So I did some research and it is indeed a rebranded piece of shit PSA GF III. The same parent company owns both PSA and DPMS.

This is like double dipping a shit stick in shit. Can't wait for the Don't Purchase Me, Stupid meme to live on in this trash fire.
