What's a good pound strength for a 10mm 1911? I've been running 24lbs and it runs like a champ on some mags and some others the last round seems to want to get stuck at an upward angle when the slides coming back.

Looks like Jizzlee might be making one of those "civilian RPD" type uppers or whatever they're called. 16 inch heavy barrel with a fatter gas tube with no step downs gets you 1,633 rounds FA with spicy Winchester.

I don't think it's super important or useful for SHTF, but I bet it'd be good for holding accuracy for more than 10rds of varminting

:diddler:do you guys like pmag or metal AR mags better
I use metal mags for 5.56 and pmag/other plastic mags for .300 BLK. I still label them. Both work well.
I like metal mags better, but I have tons of both. I have over 200 AR mags
Dang, you're like me. I bet even both of us combined don't have shit compared to some folks.
I know they do make 300 win mag AR's (somehow)
A buddy of mine ran a Nemo Arms OMEN for a few years. He said it worked fine but for how expensive it was and his love of the PRC stuff, he sold it. I personally don't see the point of that type of round in a gas gun but that's just me.
you can buy the last mags from Okay via Botach or DEGuns.
Can't find them. I guess I missed it. Dang.
Is worth the premium for a complete ambi lower only IMO, at basically $900, for that money the only remotely comparable lower is the Radian A-DAC 15 (which doesn't come with a stock, trigger, or pistol grip and is $500 + blah in that state), but outside of that I'd argue you're better off parting an upper together to put on a KAC lower.
Fuck dude, Radian lowers are that expensive now? I jumped on the bandwagon for those hard in 2019 and bought 3 of them when they were darn hard to find. I was paying a little under $350 for them back then, which I thought was retarded expensive.
Geissele's triggers are overpriced, though. Most of my experience with G triggers would be with the SSA-E X in my SD. It's a really nice trigger. $250+ nice? Absolutely not. My custom builds all have Larue MBT-2S triggers in them. The reset of the SSA-E X is maybe a tiny bit more positive than the MBT-2S's, but that's it. The MBT-2S is $100, and it's fantastic. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for a Geissele trigger.
I have the Geissele SD-3G in two of my rifles. It's good but I agree with your assessment of "not $250 good." The aftermarket trigger I like the most is the ALG Defense ACT when paired with the purple hammer spring.
It takes a lot of work to get good with a red dot especially if you have a lot of time on irons. I had about 20 years of shooting irons before I tried dots on pistols, and I went back and forth a couple times before I embraced the dot.
Hard disagree on this. Admittedly it takes more time to break a bad habit than create a new one but it's not hard or particularly time consuming. For sure a lot of us were done a disservice by being taught the "front sight focus" bullshit instead of being target focused.
So the obvious choice would be something like a CZ SP-01 or P-01 since the grip is similar to the Hi-Power, which fits my hand really well. Then I'd get em cajunized, SAO trigger, optic cut. I know about the Shadow models but they seem a bit heavy. Might see if my local big gun store has a one I can try out.

Looked at Staccatos too since picking up a used one could fit my budget and there's usually a few for sale by me. Think the P or C2 would fit my requirements but I'd wanna see if there's somewhere by me that stocks at least one 2011 so I could get a feel for the grip first.

Also saw the DWX compact which is basically the same size as a Hi-Power, has the CZ grip, 1911 style trigger, and is optic ready. Maybe a bit hard to find but the issue with that is no threaded barrels so far. So really close, but I do wanna be able to run it suppressed.
I think you'll do well with a CZ Custom CZ 75 Hush. If you call them to put in an order for one you can ask them to make it SAO. I was already salty about the DWX earlier in the thread so I'll spare you my autistic screeching. Glad that Dan Wesson finally made it red dot capable out of the box but at the price those are selling for now I'd give them a pass were I you.

Are you talking about the recoil spring weight? If so, I've found most success with a 20 lb. I tried a 22 lb first but that was just slightly more than I needed. I'm primarily running 180 gr bullets in the mid 1200 fps at the muzzle.

Alright, two questions for you guys. First, anyone here made their own case lube? I've found recipes online for lanolin and alcohol. It sounds easy enough but I'm hoping some here have experience so I don't get a stuck case. I've used Redding's Imperial Sizing Die Wax for years but it want something faster. I don't like Hornady One Shot.

Second question: if you can talk about it without compromising your security, how do you all store your ammo? I bought another safe to store mine since I want a whole lot on hand but I also am not trying to resupply anyone who breaks into my house. In the safe I have a combo of a lot of loaded mags and then ammo in storage containers. It's full so anything else I just hide in different spots around my house.

Do you like the dagger micro though? I've been eyeing one to potentially throw in my 9mm rig as a dedicated sidearm but I'm kinda leaning toward the standard dagger just for part compatibility
i like it. if you've shot a dagger and liked that it's gonna be pretty much the same but smaller. i've put somewhere around 500 rounds through it without issue. the 15 round magazines are cool if a little stiff to load. i didn't get the comped slide and kinda wish i did.

cheap quad rail
i have seen so many UTG and ProMag quadrails that are just used for lights or a VFG and work great for the price. a ProMag one on a semi-auto is nylon reinforced polymer with heat shields and is $30 at Midway. for a cheap working quad rail it's hard to beat unless you want all aluminum in which case UTG is pretty decent enough for a light/VFG and can be found under different names (GRG, Monstrom, et c). if you want an alternate to KAC, there's plenty out there but P&S is an NSN replacement for it too and can mix and match.

let's be real, you probably aren't attaching $1k of gear to it or having to bash down doors or monkey on it bracing against a wall or something. $200+ for a rail on a semi-auto patrol rifle is hard to justify for most people that aren't using their gun regularly.
What's a good pound strength for a 10mm 1911?
generally you start at 20lb if you're not sure on what loads you're doing, and either go towards 16lbs if you're shooting light loads or 24lbs for Norma/Corbon loads. it sounds more like you have a magazine issue if it's just doing that with one magazine vs others though.
First, anyone here made their own case lube?
i use 10:1 isopropyl to lanolin, which is the formula (minus an anti-vapor additive) that Unique uses for Hornady 393299.

Small pistols just plain suck to shoot. Is there no way for you to carry a Glock 19 sized gun?

Yep. Always hated shooting compact pistols. Especially the kind with really stubby grips that you can't get all your fingers around. Don't like how they feel, don't like how they shoot, don't like the short sight radius...just don't like them. I'll pretty much only carry service sized pistols, G19/VP9 size or larger.

I store ammo in surplus ammo cans. They can be easily stashed. Also you can put them in the bottom of the safe and put long guns on them
this is what i do pretty much. checking the gaskets each year for cracking and drying out (some johnny cash on the speakers helps pass the time) and replacing it sometimes is needed every few years, and i throw in a pack of desiccant as well as vacuum pack bundles of 100 or 120 if its loose ammo using a food sealer thing. works real well and is handy for grab and go on a trip since the vacuum pack keeps things together and out of the elements on a hunt too.

edit: wanted to share https://www.classicfirearms.com/del-ton-orftmc16m-optics-ready-m-lok-16-30rd

while Del-Ton isn't exactly top shelf, they're a cut above some other guys and on the same tier imho as Spike's Tactical - serviceable and cost-effective. i've had hands on 10 of these rifles in their "echo" line and they're all pretty decent and just have some commercial parts here or there. i've noticed that the barrels sometimes vary on the manufacturer. but $450 is a decent price for what they're offering.

This is pretty much my routine as well. Also, I've found that using a good rubber protectant/preservative (303 Products makes pretty good stuff that's intended for automotive weatherstripping) helps the seals last longer.

I can't stand AR elitism.

Same. The new hotness changes every 12-24 months and the previous white hot AR makers get tossed aside.

I remember when a Spike's AR was THE hottest AR at about $1k.

Now..... Who the fuck has heard of them besides their meme lowers.

Heh. Sorry, can't hear you over the Hodge Defense I paid $5,000 to part together on the secondary market.

Ahaha Hodge defense is the ultimate Hyper beast AR these days. It use to be Noveske

There's a handful of brands like LMT, KAC, and JP that are worth a premium (and a few more like CMMG that make unique uppers) but everyone else that reddit loves like Aero Precision, BCM, Daniel Defense, Geissele, etc. are not worth the extra money over a PSA.

Every single AR maker has QC fuck ups these days. I'd argue that BCM (at least the upper) is worth it over a PSA.

DD makes excellent barrels and Geisselle has gold barrels and lots of little quality of life improvements. Both of them have ridiculously overpriced lowers though.

I’m currently consolidating down to just four calibers: 5.56, 9mm, 12 gauge, and .22lr.

It’s just too much to stockpile a billion different calibers. Those four above cover every realistic need I have.

Same here but add in .38/.357/.380 some .32, .308 and both Russian 7.62mm types.

It’s illegal to hunt with bottleneck cartridges in my state, unfortunately, and that would be my primary use-case for 308. So it’s just slugs and buckshot for me when it comes to deer blasting.

I forgot some states have asinine laws like that

Geissele definitely overcharges for a lot of their stuff, but if you can get an upper for $900 during sales, it's an awesome deal. Their barrels are accurate, have a nice profile and are typically gassed well. Despite the bendy memes, I've found the MK16 rail to be durable. The REBCG is definitely much too expensive on its own, but it's included with their uppers and is really nice. The receivers are just typical milspec receivers, but I like the LPK in their Super Duty rifles.

Yep Geisselle is ok on sale. Daniel Defense rarely goes on sale.

Holy shit I read the reddit thread and the XM7 is a bigger POS than it seems.

The rifle is fat, hard to control, beats the shot out of its optic and is a bitch and half to clean. Oh and has feeding issues.

LMAO at a red screen of death on a $8k optic

So the obvious choice would be something like a CZ SP-01 or P-01 since the grip is similar to the Hi-Power, which fits my hand really well. Then I'd get em cajunized, SAO trigger, optic cut. I know about the Shadow models but they seem a bit heavy. Might see if my local big gun store has a one I can try out

Ohh the CZ SP-01 is so nice it's insane. Feels good in hand, shoots great, almost no recoil.
However..... It's FAT. Weighs in at 40oz unloaded with a mag on and the mag carries 18/19 rounds. The Shadows are even heavier 😩

The 75b is lighter and a bit more classic looking. Honestly I want both.

Speaking of pistols..... I'll be getting a Springfield Garrison 9mm soon.... Stainless. 1911 goodness in 9mm.

Also, Springfield makes the SA-35, a very faithful clone of the Hi Power with a better magazine and a few little tweaks.

How's everybody feel about .350 legend?
It seems like it has some unused potential, both as a pretty kickass home defense setup or a subsonic cartridge.
I don't see why you couldn't run a faster twist rate and have what's basically a better 8.6, as it wouldn't require an AR-10 sized gun to shoot it.

I may try and load my own with some 400gr or so cast slugs if I'm able to find a barrel or a blank with a suitable twist. Maybe even a heavy 9mm barrel with a lil bit of reaming and machining would do the trick for not too much money.
It'd be my first venture into reloading, but nothing else has made it as compelling besides this. Not really worth saving a cent or two on 9 or 556 if it takes hours to do and 1K to get all the shit

Anyone else sleep with a rifle in their bed?
In, or under? In sounds a little excessive. Under sounds just right.
