Aim Surplus has Police Trade-in Smith and Wesson 5946's in stock for $329

Sure the old 3rd gen Smiths aren't in style like all the polymer pistols, but these are generally a reliable brick. Lots of mags around so picking up a few for spares won't hurt the wallet too badly.
I love the looks of those 5900 series guns, plus you can LARP like you're Tom Cruise in Collateral. Pity the ones that AIM's selling are DAO.

The Gun market now is odd. Most new/in production stuff is cheap (ish) yet anything old is ridiculously expensive.
The market is completely fucked for collectors and will be until all the boomers are dead, but at least when it comes to practical use firearms, a rifle for home defense, a pistol for concealed carry, a reliable .22 for plinking, new guns are cheap, plentiful and good.

can Swenson Glock barrels reliably handle +P? They're Midway's in house brand for pistols, like AR stoner is for AR's.

Hunting rifles at shotguns are dirt cheap rn. this year i have got a NIB 1956 Husqvarna SxS 12 gauge, a High grade husqvarna M/46 in 9.3 for way less than 1k all together. If bought new today each of those guns would cost 1500-2000USD easily. there is a westley-richards deeley and edge patent single shot stalking rifle on guns internation for 2k that retails new for over 30,000 dollars. insane value because its not in perfect condition. i could buy that and send it to doug turnbull for a resto job and sell it for 5k or more all week long.

The milsurp market is turbo fucked. Ballester-molina's are not 8-1000 dollar guns. Makarovs are not worth 800 dollars. Mosins sure as shit are not worth that either. I managed to sell a chink SKS for damn near 1k last year. it. was. not. worth. that. much. but boomers bid it up anyway.

Probably. But if you're going to replace your OEM barrel there's no reason to buy poor fag barrels in tacky colors. If you want to go aftermarket go with KKM or Bar-Sto.

iirc they are not tested or rated for +P (and depending on what ammo you buy, +P might not mean much). Storm Lake, KKM, and Lone Wolf are generally +P tested and i have a lot of good shots with all three, with KKM being more of a competition brand than either of the others. if you're shooting Underwood or Corbon ammo +P+ on the regular consider a Bar-Sto. it's worth noting that Glock themselves rate their 9mm and .40 S&W polygonal barrels for duty ammunition which is almost always +P, so you might not need an aftermarket barrel at all.

They make stainless ones so idgaf about the finish.

Yeah but the factory barrels aren't threaded and I'd like to get a supressor before the end of this year.

In ye olden days the 25-20 and 32-20 were popular do it all cartridges. from squirrel and rabbit to deer and bear. now, you need to be a great shot to take bigger game with these cartridges but it was done successfully probably a million of times. Hunters that use them today for deer recommend only taking shots within 50 yards with a clear broadside shot.

Your Winchester is a saddle ring carbine. that ring on the side of the receiver was made to clip onto a single point cavalry sling. makes it so a horseman does not have to place the gun in a scabbard to take control of the horse with both hands - he can just let the rifle hang from his sling. most of these slings were made of a leather band with a carabiner type clip on the end. winchester 92's in 25-20 are a good value because few people want to reload for it, and winchester made tens of thousands of them.

Yep, knew it was a saddle ring carbine. It has the flip up ladder style rear sight, carbine style butt plate, and of course the saddle ring. Just didn't want to get that technical in my post. My first "big gun" (i.e.: not a .22lr) was a Winchester 94 in .30-30 Win. I also owned a 94AE carbine in .44 Magnum with the large "John Wayne" loop. Both had saddle rings. I unfortunately don't own either of them any longer, but they fostered a deep love of lever rifles in me. Next to modern "tactical" guns and military weapons of the WWII-early Cold War era, my next favorite era of firearms are the guns of the late 1800s. So lever action rifles, revolvers (especially the S&W No.3), early semi-auto pistols like the Mauser C96 and Luger, etc. I do hope to get a nice collection of lever rifles some day, either vintage or newly made. I desperately want a Winchester 1886, 1895 in either .30-06 or .405 WCF, and a Winchester 71 (basically the 1886 but updated with stronger, more modern steel for the early 20th century and chambered for .348 Win). I also want to get one of the new Marlin 1895 stainless guide guns in either .45-70 or .450 Marlin if they start chambering them for that cartridge again. I just love lever rifles.

It's always felt inexplicably sci-fi to me, for reasons I cannot articulate. Like how a 40K bolter would cycle. Probably my most fun handgun for that reason.
the P-series always looked to me like it borrowed its aesthetics from a brutalist building. I love the lines of them.

The DAO trigger on the 5946 isn't that bad imho.

At least, mine isn't. I got mine at a local shop who came across some NIB 5946's in a warehouse. Probably should have got a 5906 instead, but the DAO trigger is actually fairly smooth, like a carry revolver. I'm not sure if I would describe it as "DAO" as its sort of like an LEM or a DAK in that its sort of a "pre-cocked" lighter DA pull. Dry fire with mine is shittle like an LEM in that you have to reset the hammer for every dryfire, unlike something with an actual DA trigger like a true SA/DA.

You get the same pull every time with a slick slide, a classy point-and-click adventure with a nice machined chunk of stainless steel.

Gotta be honest, not a fan of the 3rd gen pistol magazine safety, either, but its easy enough to remove if I want to, which I probably won't, as its just a fun range toy.

It might not be bad, but I'd much rather have a single action option (for obvious reasons)

SilencerCo or KKM then.
imho i would go with Tyrant or KKM for a threaded suppressor barrel on a Glock for duty loads. i've used KKM in the past with great success (Glock 20, 10mm 210gr SJHP at 950ish f/s through a 416R stainless KKM with an A-TEC (formerly Qual-A-Tech, if you were a cool guy back in the day) suppressor in the early to mid 90's. very accurate, much pressure, powerful quiet. there's probably newer cool stuff on the market and matching a suppressor with a barrel is probably a good idea.

They also feel really good in my hands, I handled a P95 at a gunshop many years ago before they were discontinued, one of my greatest regrets is never buying one when you could get them new. They were cheap too. I think the shop wanted $325 for it brand new.

People will tell you that the "AR" in "AR-15" is short for "ArmaLite Rifle," but what it's really short for is "America's Rifle."

So, Sig (the non-American one) has decided that they wanted to modernize the 55X Series guns. My only question is why the fuck would you do that, they have never had a major military contract for them, the contracts that they did get were for LE agencies (and that was some time ago), there are numerous options that are just flat out better. They've added so much MCX (and by extension, AR) DNA that you're just flat out better off buying an MCX (or better yet, an AR). The only conceivable "feature" (if you can even call it that) that either an AR or MCX lacks compared to this is the ability to use 550 series mags, not that you would ever want to. This is like Beretta bringing back the AR-70

My only question is why the fuck would you do that
They brought back the P210 at a ludicrous price and even made a carry model(:optimistic:) for it because it got heaps of praise from people who never owned one. I'm betting it's the same for the 550 in that nobody owns one but it's the best thing ever.

Careful, (((they))) will be telling you AR actually means assassination rifle before you know it
