Blue Alpha Gear is good stuff, a friend of mine is looking at the T-Rex Arms Orion himself. Personally I'd go for something lower key depending on your area. Vertx or Unity Tactical Clutch are allegedly decent if you want a lower profile.

As far as I know, literally right now, they are planning on it being an actual event. Whether it will actually be an event is yet to be seen. Several vendors are also not attending for various reasons (notably Sig).

But lets be honest here, SHOT in this modern era is 95% unnecessary for actual product teasers and releases
If I can't go to shot how on earth will I know what it likes to hold an AR15 with a blender on it? I mean fuck it's shot show, they don't sell guns anymore, it's just AR15s with shit no one asks for done to them.

/gripe.

Had a real nice shoot today, sighted in my FR8 for deer Pressed a bunch of Barnes TTSX 150 for her and she shoots good, I do love that rifle. Then shot my makarov because my friend hasn't seen it post redoing the slide.

Now I'm pouring myself a Vodoo Ranger shit posting and cleaning maybe press a few rounds tonight.

Are 5. 11 tactical and Blackhawk good brands and also thoughts on Smith and Wesson's other brands as well?
They're the biggest name but they're not the best. I'd take Grey Ghost Gear over some of their offerings plus there is a bunch of micro niche gear guys on IG like Windy Hill Stitch Works and others that make neat shit.

While I am far from a gear afficianado I can say with great confidence that they are probably better than AR500/geneic chinkshit gear even if their gear is made in Cambodia or Vietnam.
However there's a reason all the Internet Elitists and cool dudes prefer Crye, HSP, HSG, Esstac etc etc.

I'm a mostly history collector and I know some active shit so I can run guns hard if I need to defend my self, but otherwise I want to fuck around with old shit.

Shit comes and goes and each varries, I fucking hate 5.11 pants. Maybe if all you do is LARP with an AR it's fine but I'll take my 20 dollar wal mart Wranglers over them. Oakley gloves are fucking trash (and I'm a die hard on their eye ware) I run mechanix.

Sadly, either ask someone you trust on each thing, or bite down and buy and see if it's any good.

Since mentioned blackhawk, holsters are always worth money, granted I'm pretty aware what quality is and I carry daily, but I got a decent Galco, that fits my G20 and it hides well under my suit I use an Uncle Mikes for SOB and often I legit mexicarry when I'm doing my day to day shopping or social shit. My 1903 just pocket it. So I'm not very snobby when it comes to how to carry or what it is.

They’re both okay. They won’t just fall apart like voodoo tactical and ncstar junk, but definitely not crye, blue force, tactical tailor, or whatever the high speed low drag guys are running today. The one Blackhawk thing I can absolutely vouch for is their rigger belt. I’ve been wearing mine for 12 years as my daily belt, and it’s held up as both a gunbelt and a safety belt.

5.11 makes good khakis and decent polo shirts. They're a very good brand for dudes in cubicles trying to pretend to be high speed/gray man types

Just need some Merrell trail runners, gascans, and a g-shock to complete the “dude who’s definitely packing and is carrying at least two knives” look.

Anybody have some good resources on learning about all this gear queer stuff? I have slowly been trying to get some knowledge in the area as I want to get a decent set of body armor, plate carriers, and associated equipment. Between esoteric terminology, blatant shills, and not truly knowing what I want/need, it has been a rather difficult task. I have finally lost enough weight to where I won't be laughed at for being a fatass in armor, instead I am in the much more pleasant place of being laughed at merely for being an ass in armor.

Lightfighter.net.

Fitness is more important than gear.

I'll be honest, a lot of the stuff I know I got through osmosis from being around other autists for years, and about half of it I learned due to airsoft, so I don't think there's a one-stop-shop.
I recommend watching some of Hop's videos. He does have a no-BS attitude towards gear and calls out the problems with the Gucci branded stuff.

Sorry to be clear, I was looking at the Blue Alpha Gear and AWS LAB belt to be particular.

The AWS lab belt comes in 2 configurations: 1 with molle sewn in directly, 2nd without but with molle patches:

Belt with molle patches on back only.

patch by itself

From closer inspection, it does appear to velcro on. That said, what gear would need to be attached with molle in the first place? From the top of my head, I would wanna be running:

  • safariland mid-ride holster
  • pistol mag pouches/ar mag pouches
  • IFAK
  • tourniquet(?)
  • Dump pouch maybe?
what of the above shit (or anything glaring I missed) needs molle?
Ha! An excuse to post my LARP belt.

I went with Viking Tactics belt and battle belt, High Speed Double Deckers for ammunition and BFG for the dump pouch. The holster is from Bradford Tactical and the IFAK and utility pouches are Condor (not great, but "good enough to hold stuff"). All of the MOLLE stuff is secured with MOLLE sticks and the knife is just a cheap as fuck Mora.

Follow up, Do these outer belts all attach via velcro?
Not 100% sure I follow, but the actual rigger type belt passes through the "battle belt", which is what provides the padding and MOLLE attachments. In the case of the Brokos belt, you can pass the inner rigger belt outside the MOLLE panels every two loops if you want to run it through your holster loops and then back in/under to leave the MOLLE panels open for gear that attaches that way - there's no Velcro involved.

I may be mis-understanding you, but both the AWS and the blue alpha look like the inner belt that goes thru your pants belt loops simply is all velcro on the outside, and the outer belt that you attach everything too just velcros on?

That's a different setup than I'm using. My inner belt is just an oversized duty type belt with the same Kobra buckle and is worn over whatever I'm actually wearing - I'm not passing it through the belt loops of my pants. The point is that I can take the whole thing off or put it on without fucking around with my actual clothes.

That's an interesting setup, but it seems like you'd need to leave enough empty space around your waist to give the outer belt something to Velcro onto?

The only Blackhawk thing I'll vouch for is their basic bitch web sling because its nigh impossible to fuck up a canvas sling. Having used both 5.11 and Blackhawk in duty capacities I would never recommend them because their shit doesn't hold up to long term abuse in my personal experience. I know 5.11 is in balls deep with a lot of LE agencies but that doesn't really make them worth a shit.

On the flip side, I've had a pair of Bates tactical boots last forever and their reputation has been kind of ass for the past decade since they're all foreign made now.

A lot of these, if not most them do because they're designed for duty use and so you don't have to fuck with belt keepers (lol we all still have to wear belt keeper). The idea is quick don and doff for conveniences sake. My old war belt has the inner belt velcro'd in and the outer belt is basically MOLLE hip padding.
