How are Mossberg's handguns? Other than their shotguns I never found myself interested in anything else they made.
I would like to know too. My LGS has a sale on them now for pretty cheap. Never new Mossberg made pistols.
I was looking at those vs. a Springfield Hellcat. Honestly, the Mossberg was nice, felt like a pistol made by Mossberg should feel.... if that makes any sense.

Definitely smoother around the edges than a Springfield or Sig P365, but not as tightly fitted. Though lacking a red dot wasn't really a deciding factor; I can take or leave them, mostly preferring irons.

The Mossberg also felt a bit more Ruger-like, in my hands at least, and was a bit more comfortable to shoot than either a Hellcat or S&W. And I never could grok Sig's slide geometry.

So I ended up getting none of them.... instead opting for an essentially new Remington R51 that set me back *almost* as much as a HighPoint. It had been sent back to Remington by the previous owner, who then traded it out as soon as he got it back, without even firing it once.

While not even in the same category as either the Mossberg or Springfield, it looks cool & actually works; which is something special for these particular handguns. Surprisingly, it has had literally no malfunctions, aside from the spare magazine being really tight, and being a bear to seat or eject (although it's gotten better).

I've been eyeballing the R51s since they first dropped, but didn't buy one because every one I physically looked at suffered from one (or many) of the problems they had to start. And I wouldn't have bought this one, except it had all the corrections & faults verifiably fixed, with factory paperwork, all for less than a HighPoint.

But had that thing not been there, I probably would've left with the Mossberg.

between 6:40 and 6:55 James talks about a brace for the Keltec P-50 that will be debuted at SHOT 2022

Speaking of SHOT 2022, it is officially the new year and that means SHOT Season. The times of leaks, speculation, hype and sadly sometimes disappointment. I would like to engage in some speculating and wish making by stating and asking what I/this thread expects to see and would like to see at this upcoming SHOT.

I expect
-More AR's
-More 1911's
-More imported Turkish firearms whether they be shotguns or pistols
-Several stupid products
-At least one actually dangerous product
-Some neat yet extremely niche stuff
-Someone is going to release yet another Microcompact (Maybe HK)
-Trijicon might release an enclosed pistol optic
-Probably at least one truly innovative product
-Maybe (but unlikely) Glock Gen 6?
-Maybe more glocks brought up to Gen 5 spec
-New optics from Vortex, Holosun etc etc
-New retarded expensive bolt actions
-Probably that Mossberg mystery gun which I personally think is a straight pull bolt action
-I would assume we'll see the S&W CSX
-New suppressors
-Something entirely unexpected

Things I would like to see
-I would like to see an updated on the Franklin Armory Providence (weird technically not semi auto pcc thing, has a mechanism similar to a double action revolver)
-I would like to see Vortex's new line of pistol optics that Modern Samurai Project said they were working on a few months ago
-I would like to see Glock's pistol optic that Tactical Rifleman said they were working on when he reviewed the ACSS Vulcan reticle
-I would like to the Glock's rifle
-I would like to see Eotech show their "Holography 2.0" tech that they teased on Kevin Brittingham's podcast a few months back supposedly it's way better than their current offerings
-I would also like to see an Eotech holographic pistol optic (however this is unlikely)
-The release of the Strike Industries SIAR (I think this might actually be reasonable to expect due to it being featured in some marketing material SI put out recently)
-I would like to see the PSA JAKL

So what is it you expect/would like to see?

I wonder how they plan to attach it since they pre-emptively cucked to the ATF and put that QD mount there instead of a pic rail.

Probably a piece of pic rail with a special interface to somehow stop it from wiggling when plugged into a QD socket.

I thought about that, but that sounds sketchy as shit.
Maybe it connects to the bottom of the pistol grip too, like those Glock stock adapters.

very cringe. borderline as bad as those personality listicles that float around.
I still thought it was funny my wife was cracking up while reading it, even if the format is cringe. She's not a gun nut by any stretch, but she's been around enough of them to immediately grok some truth in the humor.

SHOT show, there's gonna be ARs.. and ARs or things like ARs.

I really hope something funky comes out, not even stuff I want/need/care about but it's really been rebranding them or reinventing them while not for a few years.

Hope everyone has had a good holiday break and lots of blasting for 22 planned!

I expect there's going to be a lot of armor this year; it seems like people have been doing work on alternative plate & carrier options, in terms of composites & functional concealment.

Composite ammo should be big this year too, projectiles & cases, as trickle-down from .mil trials; along with 3D printed/sintered chassis & receivers.

For those asking about the mossberg ccw, hop did a video on it:
Overall, I think his verdict on the new model with red dot cutout is a little forced for him (already a new carry gun? sponsored sus). That said, it looks nicer then the hellcat but worse then the sig, as expected.

What are your takes on a red dot pistol? I've said it before, but it is crazy to think about, I could only imagine nutnfancy's video response if it started trending back in 2012 lol. I would personally consider it for a police duty gun I guess, MAYBE for a infantry loadout, but idk for concealed. In general, it seems like an expensive solution to training problem that is even more expensive if you want to be able to shoot with dead batteries (unless it's low enough like the mossberg above).

I dunno, maybe there's a feature we don't know about yet or maybe it appeals to a small niche of people.

I think this could maybe potentially mark a return to S&W making metal framed handguns that aren't 1911's again.
I hope this and Springfield's Hi-Power repro somehow lead to an update of the 3rd Gen guns. I do kind of doubt it though since it being SAO, lacking an optics cut, and not being compatible with Shield Plus magazines will probably limit the market to 30 year old boomers.

All the "cool guys" hopped on the trend years ago, so there is merit to the whole "concept"

Aaron Cowen (guy who runs the Sage Dynamics youtube channel, he is THE guy to go to for information on pistol red dots and he regularly updates the "White Paper" of pistol red dots which details his personal round counts with particular optics and how they hold up over time) said it better than I can but essentially Red dots are great for "data collection". When shooting iron sights on a handgun you are supposed to be focusing on the front sight (However Lucky Gunner has demonstrated in one of his videos a "target focus" method that only works with Night Sights ut he personally suggests its use for 10 yards and in) meaning that the actual target will be out of focus, and in a real life defensive scenario the more you can see of the attacker(s) the better. As to Expense, yes red dots are more expensive than factory iron sights and still about double the cost of nice aftermarket sights. But if you ask me economies of scale in addition to relatively high quality chinese made offerings will cause red dots to become the standard on handguns like they are on (most) rifles today
For example, a nice Holosun can be had for around $250ish when not on sale, where as a nice set of Night Sights is around $100-140ish

I assume by "third generation" you are referring to S&W's metal framed handguns of olde?

That's the ones. I have a couple and I think they could be at least every bit as viable as Beretta 92s and the Sig P22Xs which are still in production now with a few updates but I also recognize that the pistol meta has moved quite a bit from them.
