i mean, you can go a pretty long way if you're willing to throw money at it. QPQ (under various tradenames) when done properly at the end of a manufacturing process with a quality alloy steel like CMV will likely outlast most practical use cases as well as several impractical ones. you could always slap some birdsong on there or DLC as a "sealant" for the treated steel as well. i've recommended H&M's black nitride plus before since i think they have a quality product and do quality work.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll see if I can find any 4150 custom untreated match grade barrels I can use for the purpose. :semperfidelis:

Anyone know anything about UltraOx? They seem to be a gas-based nitrocarb solution which is pretty close to what I'm looking for but wondering if anyone had experience with 'em.

nitro carburizing treatments are extremely similar to each other since the core technology isn't really different between manufacturers. what matters is the prep work, the quality of the application, and the inspection process. while i've never used UltraOx specifically, i have used AHT for some engine components and they do good work. i imagine UltraOx is not too different from any other gas impregnation tech out there other than being more environmentally friendly (salt bath nitro formulas often have ammonia and red water waste which is hazardous). QPQ is a less costly means to a similar end: a combination of salt bath nitro carburizing with a polish/cooling period, then brief re-immersion. if you add an epoxy or DLC or whatever coating on top of that to provide a physical and chemical barrier to the environment, it's very difficult to beat for the price asked.

UltraOx, from the description, seems to be a variation on salt bath nitrocarburizing where they receive a sealant (maybe PVD?) and a couple other layers.

Also where to get good quality AK magazines nowadays???

That's highly location dependent, and if you mean true 5.56. In America, where you can order online, 5.56 is more expensive, but you can get some cheap .223 for a cent or two per round less than 7.62x39. ammobuy.com and ammoseek.com are good resources, FYI. This is likely to change in the next several years as the Russian steel case ammo dries up and you'll be hard pressed to find any 7.62x39 that isn't S&B or Federal.

I like the new production Zastava with the holdback, but make sure they work in your rifle before you commit, which is a good rule of thumb for any AK magazines. They're 25 bucks a mag on their site. Cheaper in bulk.

It's not necessarily more expensive but I think the days of it being significantly cheaper than 556 are over.

For mags it will depend a bit on what the origin of your AK is.

Arms of America is good for the new production Polish mags, I've used them in both my Yugo AKs (both 762 and 556) with out problem.

my dream gun is an M2 carbine with integral suppressor like above, The M2 is a very interesting gun since it kinda bridged the gap between assault rifle and submachine gun, I wonder how optimal the .30 Carbine cartridge is for suppression.

Without doxxing too much. It's a Morrissey Products/Morrissey Arms AK. It was put together in Minnesota. I believe it has some Romanian parts as well, but I'm not 100 percent on that.

And yes, it has the Thordsen stock. The reason I went for an AK is because there's no Buffer tube. I think the AR-15 thordsen compliant rifles with the buffer tube awkwardly sticking out look absolutely hideous.

Barrel on its way back from pin n weld job, rc2 in suppressor jail, and SISTER-FUCKER ARMS raised the price of Rem 700 R5s globally because Lucas is a faggot. I don't know why it autocorrected that to capitalized but I feel it's a sign.
