can't go wrong with a S&W Model 17 (or it's variations).
Hopping on the 5.56 AK bandwagon late as usual.
I mean for roughly the same price, you can get a Zastava M90, and not have any of the problems (save for that ugly ass Magpul furniture).
That's just it though, M90 is infinitely better made. Wasr series rifles were only good (and still hit or miss) when they were prior military guns, not the ones made especially for the treaty.
ACE is super overpriced imo, I'd rather get a Polish Beryl if I'm going to pay rape prices for a 5.56 AK. Or I'd get another Sig 55x.
I'd like to get an ACE as well, preferably a Gen 1, but those seem to be getting on the rare and expensive side.
My favorite was an Arsenal SLR-95; it had the hideous plastic, ban-era thumbhole stock. But the machining, fit, and finish on that thing was tight. The trigger was unnaturally good, even AR-like; and it also proved to me that the AK can be capable of surprising accuracy (especially coming Century WASRs & IO clones previously); while using quality/match ammo was both surprising & highly rewarding. Yet it also functioned on literally any nasty, filthy surplus I could lay my hands on, because I dumped thousands of rounds into the environment without issue. But at least even the crustiest old Egyptian 7.62 really only caused "normal" AK accuracy & extra time spent cleaning.

back when i was doing LEO duty i remember being intrigued and kinda scared on a report of a hunting rifle (described as a bolt action .30being used to fire a warning shot from inside the sleeper compartment and through the passenger compartment and out the side door to ward off a vehicle hijacking (CA considers an occupied vehicle as similar to an occupied home, ergo castle doctrine applies, and that's true even today) of a semi along CA-4...
It's always stood out to me that I have literally never seen an Indian who owned a gun in my life. I see plenty of whites, blacks, hispanics, and asians at the ranges I go to who own and shoot their own guns at the very least, even if most of them probably don't vote pro 2A. But I've never seen an Indian show up to a range with his own gun. At the most, a pack of H1Bs will head bobble their way into the range, rent a gun or two, and take turns taking photos of each other shooting it. Meanwhile the current administration is loosening restrictions for more visas from India and there's so many coming in that anti caste discrimination laws are beginning to be a thing in cities.
