OSINT Researcher War Noir has brought to my attention something truly bizarre. A Type 2 AK (produced 1951-1954) that appears to have been modified to function similarly to the Hopak/Gopak-61 straight pull rifle I featured in a post recently. The rifle was seized from a criminal in Chernihiv, The Ukraine. A custom made buttstock looks to have accompanied the rifle but is not attached. The suppressor follows the general construction of the VSS/VAL Series of suppressors (ie sights mounted on the suppressor itself) but for reasons unknown sports a bottom mounted lug of no immediately clear purpose.
It looks like the thing was designed to work both as a stock, or can be flipped to the bottom & used to lock onto something solid; like a window sill, ledge, frame, or similar. You know... for shooting protesters, police, politicians, etc without being seen.

It also looks like the assembly is missing some parts, so all it was still good for is as a funny-looking detachable stock.

My guess is it probably came from one of the early war Chechen or Wagner assassination teams, and got left behind or stolen when they retreated or were caught; or even might date back to the Maidan days.

And now for something completely different....

also i should mention 240gr SWC or SJSP are excellent man stoppers and are good for cougars/coyotes as personal protection when your rifle is slung. in a pinch it can even do boar, although i don't know if i'd trust it for bears. if you have a .44 magnum carbine like a Rossi M92 or something, it can also do deer sized game similar to a .30-30, although not as flat shooting.
You a 44 guy? seems like you know your way around.

Do you know of any thigh or chest rig that will accommodate a scope? Or is that something I will have to modify/fabricate?

i'm still thinking about the best way to go cowboy mode and maybe i've got it wrong with the mare's leg. maybe i should just say fuck it and get a python or model 29? the more i think about it, the more i want a fancy gun to be an heirloom and i imagine it will be worth more over time in case i need to buy a lot of crack really quick.

Olight WML
I will never understand Olight buyers. Surefire has gold-plated prices, but Streamlight isn't that much more. Maybe I'm being a snobby poorfag, but I think there's a significant quality difference.
Struggling to see how he would activate the white light as a right handed shooter

With it mounted low like that I could see hitting with a knuckle. Probably ran out of space for a dual mode switch.

i have a pretty decent history shooting it for hunting and competition among other things. for a holster, Galco is among the best imho and I've had a lot of good experience carting around a Kodiak shoulder holster, which under a coat is reasonable to stay out of the weather. if interested, you might be able to modify an Alaskan chest holster but i'm not sure if there's a specific one for the Taurus M44 (ask Galco).

Triple K (crappy magazines, pretty decent leatherwork) also makes some but you might need to find something that properly fits.

How?

How can you tell he's running a 2nd light?
It was a joke. The knuckle thing could make sense except he's not running a foregrip and those ergos don't make sense without one. Who knows why he had is mounted leftside. Pipehitters can do weird shit for very specific reasons. Maybe his switch was found to be fucked during equipment check and nobody had a replacement so he figured the tailswitch was better than nothing and he can do some 80s pistol shit like and rest the rifle on his forearm while he presses the switch with his thumb. The NGAL or whatever he's running doesn't have a switch in either. Maybe he's actually a lefty who hates switches and has his strap on the right side so it dangles out of the way during admin shit. He might use that Romeo over an Aimpoint because his eye likes the dot better and they have 50 in the armory he can slap on if one shits the bed without having to go through a shitload of paperwork and getting reamed out by his SMaj or whoever.

There is probably a reason and there is a 99.9% chance it doesn't matter to anyone but him. It's not the One Simple Trick to Defeat FEMA Deathsquads the Government Doesn't Want You to Know.

Grip behind the light and extend your left index finger. If you don't have baby hands it will reach. I was just able to do it with a 9:00 mounted light with it at 7:00 it would be more ergonomic.

Why the scout mount is upside down is a way more interesting question to me and I know there's probably a not a good reason.

when i was kicking doors at o'dark thirty i had a light without a vertical grip, i (and some others) purposely put it on the "wrong side" to avoid inadvertent activation and it was comfortable that way since it was treated as a toggle you did when you had a rest not on demand where you would want to preserve night vision or avoid drawing attention even accidentally. when i want a light i wanted it constant on at whatever power level i needed. if i needed a strobe i would put it in strobe mode via twisting the base.

this was before the c-clamp grip was a thing and pressure pads were mostly either an integrated solution or had to attach to a VFG. most pressure pads were stolen to work with the PAQ-4 or PEQ-2 since it had the same fitting. old school types preferred this adhoc solution of a modified M16 grip with a scope ring mount that was modified with a clamp through the holes of the lower handguard/heatshield assembly with a bolt. i still have a wilcox one somewhere i used for a time.

as an aside i really started likely offset light mounts without a pressure switch once i had hands on an M500. you can kinda replicate that with an offset scout light mount and run a short switch toggle to the natural rest of the thumb of the supporting hand.

Did a bit more shooting with that Howa/Hera rifle over the weekend. Easily .3-.5 MoA all day long and it got to where I was just punching the little 1/2" circle stickers that come with sticky targets to cover shot holes. Got a few inquiries about the rifle from my range neighbors when we went out to change targets - they were somewhat shocked that a gun I maybe have $1200 in (including the spray paint) shot as well as it did.

I need to make a trip next time to a range in the next county where I can let the gun stretch its legs and I get to fiddle around with the scope turrets or use the Christmas tree reticle.

Welp, fuck. Guess I'm joining the club I didn't have any intentions of joining.
Buddy I play OS MTG with has a Taurus M44 8 3/4 44 mag in shiny, shiny stainless for a knockout price. Only been fired a few times, was given to him and has been sleeping in safe never being used. For the price he's selling at, it'd be dumb not to. Guess I'm on the lookout for good 44 ammo and some wood grips. A mounting system for a small scope. Also a holster, don't know if I want something across the chest or at my hip.
Didn't think I'd ever get something in 44 aside from maybe a lever action, but here we are.
VZ Grips makes grips for your revolver that I think are worth checking out if you ever want to change those out. For ammo, I like these folks quite a bit. Priced competitively and they ship fast.

Check out GunfightersINC. Not cheap but I can tell you for sure they make a great product.
I would love to own a Model 29, but don't want to pay GB prices for one.
I highly, highly recommend you look for a 29-2 made in the 70s. I found one locally, unfired, back in 2019. Traded in a few firearms and racked up some credit card debt to get it, but it was entirely worth it. You should have heard the wailing and gnashing of teeth when I cerakoted it, put aftermarket sights on it, new grips, and took it as a hunting/hiking side arm. I've shot the fuck out of that thing. It taught me what a great revolver is and also that I do not like revolvers.

My nigga with the old school WML setup! I too prefer an offset light with no pressure switch. I use Arisaka mounts for that. Good stuff.

Is S&W ever gonna go back to making revolvers without that unsightly Hillary Hole?

I would love to own a Model 29, but don't want to pay GB prices for one.
I kinda doubt it since while no one really likes the internal lock it clearly hasn't been a deal breaker for most people. It does its real job of getting some small amount of political good will and removing it would inevitably get Everytown spinning a narrative like "S&W REMOVES VITAL SAFETY FEATURE, THINK OF THE CHILDRENS!" Maybe if they move their revolver manufacturing to Tennessee, it's all still in MA right now.
