Not quite what your asking but I'm trusting a G41 with a TLR-3 as a bedside blaster.
G41 is the .45 ACP version of your G40 (10mm) just in case someone out there didn't know.
I have more than enough faith in it to take care of almost any two or four legged threat.

This isn't a gun, but I've already horrified all my buddies I was in with and this is closest thread. I know there are guys here who will get a reaction. For context, I bought something off of ebay and this is what it came in.

Part of me wants to drive across the country, take a shit in this box, and set it on fire on the guy's front porch. It was like walking into a gas station and seeing a Rip It. It's been a long time since I've had such a strong response to anything deployment related. The only thing that comes to mind was seeing trash on the highway and thinking it was an IED and swerving across lanes to avoid it almost 15 years ago.
That picture made me gag. I hate you.

Just wanted to put out this warning in case anyone gets on the lever action train like I did. Rossi makes a couple different types of lever action, and if you get a 92 you're probably good since the aftermarket and tuning for those rifles has been around for a while now. If you're like me and you buy a Rossi 95, which is their new clone of the Marlin 336, you might be in for a world of hurt. Shot 20 rounds through it which went pretty well except for the fact that the 5+1 is a bit of a lie, and that the gun gets really really fucking hot after only 3 shots. Took it home, disassembled it and tapped on the gate to do the standard test to make sure it's not loose, and the loading gate immediately shattered.

Sent them an email and they never got back to me, so I had to call them instead. Asked if I could purchase a replacement loading gate, and they replied that the fucking loading gate is a restricted part. They could only 'fix' my gun if I sent it into them and paid for a rebenching, which they told me would probably be $50 for shipping, and another $50 for said rebenching. Told them to eat shit and got lucky, because an aftermarket part designed for the marlin 336 managed to fit correctly, even though the manufacturer told me flatly that it would not fit. Just wanted anyone here to know about it in case they did want a lever gun in 30-30.

tldr, The 92 might be fine, but Rossi has horrible customer service and if you manage to break or damage a part that is proprietary in some of their newer guns you might be up shit creek. Whatever you save by buying a 95 instead of a Marlin or other reputable 30-30 lever action probably isn't worth it.

Some Articles, First from Soldier Systems on the Son Tay Raid GAU-5/5A and how it compares to the modern M4A1 CQBR

Next we have a four part series from Jeff Gurwitch (9 combat deployments, 26 year Career) published between July 4th, 2012 and December 30th, 2018 for Defense Review detailing the evolution of his and his teammate's rifles as well as the "Competition to Combat Crossover".

Colt T-12 Pen Gun, very little is known about the gun, not even the date of manufacture, fires a comically tiny .12 cartridge

Quiet Special Purpose Revolver (QSPR) of the Vietnam War, utilized captive piston ammunition (for a Soviet Equivalent silent revolver see the Ots-38) for reduced firing noise which was said to be about 110db. Made from cut down and modified S&W Model 29's (In Bizzaro World instead of packing a roaring handcannon, Dirty Harry wielded a mouse fart snub nose) Fired Tungsten birdshot out of a smoothbore barrel. The guns were intended for Tunnel Rats, Somewhere between 11 to 250 were made, one was apparently lost and at some later time was alleged to have been used in an attempted murder in California (Whenever you read anything regarding this gun this will come up, But I am yet to have seen anything actually backing this claim up)

Before there was the Colt 9mm SMG, Maxwell Atchisson (same guy who would make the AA-12) was experimenting with the concept.
Top 2 are open bolts, bottom is a closed bolt and intergally suppressed, using a modified .45 MAC suppressor, modified to be wipeless. Something about the middle gun for me.

Atchisson also made, this, the C.R.A.C.K or "Counter Action Recoiling Compensated Kick" which is certainly an aesthetically jarring design. M1 Garand receiver, BAR trigger group and parts from a Thomspon, 7.62x51mm chambering. By judging by the cutout in the stock and the forward spring, I think the receiver was supposed to reciprocate rearwards slightly while cycling.

He also had a penchant for .22's seeing as how he made the original AR conversion kit and two unique rifles (one of which is somewhat reminiscent of a Hi-point carbine

This one has a barrel which is "slightly curved"

I’m guessing this is some military thing, but I don’t get it. Were the cookies bad or something?

In my experience they were often the only fresh cookies available; but they were free at the DFAC, so you could take as many as you wanted. Most of the time they were underbaked/nearly raw or fossilized; combined with multiple Rip-Its those cookies would put you into a hellishly tweaked, quasi-diabetic state of uncomfortable existence. And vomiting didn't help... if anything it made things worse.

To this day I can't even look at an Otis Spunkmeyer cookie wrapper without my guts twisting up in horror & revulsion.

They weren't bad, but your options for what to eat could have been limited depending on how you were forward deployed. A significant part of my deployment was either MREs or Otis Spunkmeyer cookies/muffins at OPs and shit because the cooks at our FOB were lazy fucks. I ate a lot of those fucking muffins because I flat out refused to eat MREs by this point. Things got better when we just started cutting locks on the food conexes and taking what we wanted. Breaching tools aren't just for outside the wire.

Was there also a brand of muffin named after a lady? There's something tickling my brain about that, but I can't come up with a name. For anyone wondering, you can buy Rip Its at Dollar Tree. My curiosity was peaked and I did search.

I want to know how many containers of Rip Its Dollar Tree bought.
I don't think they're the same formulation as OG Rip-It. They only come in large cans and definitely don't have the kick I remember. I bought some the first time I saw it on sale, pounded a whole 20oz can like old times & waited for the vibrations to start. But instead all I got was heartburn, an almost headache, a weird niacin flush type feeling, and I had to piss it all out within 10min.

But in retrospect, it's probably a good thing they're not the same....

rossi is gay. IMO if you want a lever gun, man up and have a budget of 1,000-2,000 for a new Marlin/Winchester/Pedersoli/uberti. all have big aftermarkets and are high quality. Winchester and pedersoli are available with color case and all grades of wood. if you can't swing that budget buy a used gun from the above. Henry is all right but not worth what they charge. the finish isn't that good IMO, but if you find one for cheap dont be afraid to buy.
edit: uberti case color isn't real, its a chemical bath. sometimes it comes out gray and washed out so i wouldn't but sight unseen if that matters to you.

Am I the only one who just buys ammo online exclusively? Even with shipping its cheaper than local and you can get larger quantities. I dont even glance at the ammo section when Im at my local stores.
I'm sad for you kiwifren. Everyday price for a 100 rounds of 115 grain 9mm FMJ is $30 around here. The LGS had a deal on Black Friday on the same ammo for $10 on a 50 count.

Oh yeah don't worry I've got a Henry on the way now. Managed to get it cheaper than the msrp too, just a bit disappointed is all.

Did you not get the copious amount of gay jokes while you're puking or feeling like shit too? Your branch didn't love you!

Not a fan of the veggie omelette actually fuck that, veggie anything was awful.

Have we talked about miniature working firearms on the thread yet? I searched but didn't get any results back. I heard about these years ago thanks to ol' Larry Vickers.

Check out part 1 of 4. Worth your time if you're not busy.

CZ wants to buy all of Vista Outdoors ( Federal, CCI, Alliant Powder, etc). In October, Czechoslovak Group offered to buy all the ammunition businesses for $1.91b from Vista. CZ made the argument Vista is a dead company without the ammo business. They probably aren't wrong.
They likely aren’t wrong.

It’s interesting that multiple ammunition companies are up for sale. Clarus Group (Barnes, Sierra, Black Hills) got an offer for its ammo segment. I’m curious what is causing the sell off.

Speaking of companies getting bought. Winchester bought White Flyer last month.

I don't like to see consolidation in the firearms industry, or any industry for the matter. Makes it easier to get legislation flowing when you only have one company to deal with and not hundreds.

That thing looks absolutely disielpunk. The receiver reciprocated? Sounds like it would kick quite a bit for 7.62x51mm. Still think it has soul

Guess I'll look for a used 30-30 then, or save for a cheaper Henry. Loved when my cousin let me shoot his Marlin. Absolutely a fun time
