I had never heard of Archon until your post... That thing looks sick, and should make for a sweet carry gun. Adding it to my list of "guns I'll buy someday"
It's uses the platform the Italian Arsenal Strike pistols used when they were being imported but made in Germany imported by PTR. They've been made for a couple years in the Gen 1 version that was more a traditional pistol with no optics cut. The operating system is very unique as well the barrel is separate from the link which is more like a collar leading for a very low bore axis and a barrel that stays near horizontal with the slide on cycling .

Did the paperwork on this should be picking it up this weekend and will be puting it through the paces. The little bag has the extension pieces that let you give the grip some extra length and take an 18 rounder or go with a 13 round compact grip. I like the idea of going from a standard to compact frame but I'd rather have an extended base pad on the magazine and keep it the 15 round sized grip than go bigger.
I've only heard about this but never seen one in person. Do tell us your thoughts once you've had some time and rounds downrange with it.
Gun weighs almost 3 pounds unloaded. Dats a big carry.
I've met guys that EDC a Shadow 2 with a RDS. Not my style but some guys don't mind such weights.

What kind of handguard cloth wraps are these?

And are they effective?

While I know the Ruger Blackhawk in 30 carbine is a thing, I wish more like the admittedly dangerous Kimball was done with it. It's a cool round, 2000 fps from a 110 grain 30 cal round. I think a lot more could have been done with it.
I think it could be nifty, and I like the overgrown Colt Woodsman form factor, but even on the long end the Kimball pistols had extremely short barrels for .30 Carbine, the Ruger Blackhawk and AMT Automag III were better suited by giving you a lot of length as to actually provide some worthwhile velocity, and not TOO much blast.

I feel though that there isn't all that much of a point in the cartridge for pistols beyond the novelty (like really short AR pistols), particularly when there's no cheap surplus ammo anymore. With the previously mentioned pistols, the Blackhawk can be had in regular old .357 Magnum (and bigger ones), and the Automag III could be had in 9mm Winchester Magnum, cartridges which would just be a lot more appealing. To me, anyway.
It leaves me wanting for a .30 Carbine wildcat which is just a slightly cut down case and loaded with a suitable pistol powder, as to create a double-stackable .30 caliber Magnum cartridge.

Right, I recall hearing about these, they seemed weird and interesting, hope you'll tell us more when you get it.
Also, the textured surface on those grips are eerily reminiscent of the non-slip plastic floor mat of a really dank old locker room shower I recall from my school days, that place stank and was lit with what seemed like a fluorescent tube which was just barely hanging on to life. Not sure what to make of that.

They come with Talon grip on them, one model comes with the medium texture and this one is their skateboard grip tape variety.

Looks like a Rail Rap from Burn Proof Gear. I have them on 3 of my rifles. If you're doing something like dumping 5+ magazines in very short order they'll help mitigate felt barrel heat well. I have their suppressor covers too, which I think is a better use of money spent on their products.

Their stuff works but is not cheap and a suppressor gets real hot real quick compared to a barrel inside a handguard.

The thing is, you could do more with 30 carbine than JUST pistols. It's a pdw round. Slap that bad boy in a modern style AR carbine with the same 18 inch barrel. Or hell, shorter. Give it a CAR 15 profile with a 10.5 inch barrel.

As for revolvers, I wish Smith would bring out one. They already made a meme 350 legend one, 30 carbine shouldn't be out 9f the realm of possibility.

As for wildcats, fuck yeah. It's horribly underutilized. I'd love a 30 magnum. Closest we got is 30 super carry and 7.62 Tokarev

Edit: thinking of going thru with my shotgun plan this year after finishing my PC. There's a semi auto Mossberg I really like that's going for less than 300. Not a combat gun, it's wood with a 28 inch barrel, I just really like it and think it'd be good for hunting

I do agree with that. An AR carbine with a receiver and action shortened down for .30 Carbine length (rather than just a 5.56mm one with a spacer block in the magwell), along with some new plastic or aluminum magazines. Focus on making it lightweight.
I still think 10.5" is a bit short for the cartridge though.

i mean, i just wear gloves and if something is super hot, i have a sweat band or something soaked in water...

I was wearing gloves designed for shooting from 5.11 recently and after doing 4 or 5 magdumps in short order as mentioned by @Dean Pentel.

The gloves have been decolored to some degree since I bought green colored gloves which now have a shade of orange on them.

It seems like the real disadvantage of free floated mlok handguards is no heat shield.

interesting that they discolored... admittedly i stick with either Hatch or the "nomex" flight gloves off the PX/BX shelf (rothco and others make them). they can get toasty for sure, but never hot or discolored that i've noticed and i've used them for handling some pretty hot barrels and suppressors now and again. when i'm not expecting any mag dump scenarios the basic mechanix gloves work well enough for my use. one of the things i look for in a rail is either an aluminum heat shield or an insulator (it's not readily heat conductive), never liked slim rails or the ones without any heat protection since getting burned sucks.

Some of the thinner shooting gloves are very flimsy. Get proper leather gloves, Mechanix has a bunch. Or if really concerned about heat, look into some of the lighter welding gloves. Nomex and leather are your friend when it comes to blocking heat.

MP5 is a cooler gun, but LRBHO and options besides 9mm are not common.
Perhaps one day PTR could do the PTR510.

I bought an new MPX for like 2k with some button flip iron sights and really really like it. I didn't want to buy an MP5 because at the cost of it I wanted to pay off my car thats nearly paid off first. I've started collecting firearms after I finished paying off nearly all my debt and I just feel like I want the MP5 because of the cool factor.
So far shooting the MPX I fucking love it.
Some of my military friends and I went to a range with it and they all are mad because of how much they liked it and they yelled at me because i keep buying expensive nice guns that are out of their budget range.
