i've bought and sold off CG for years (including having a founder's account). it's gotten significantly worse as years have gone on and redditors from liberal gun owners basically reinforced the existing lefty user base of cope huffers with further and further leftward ideology, which started polarizing people after 2008 especially and 2016 since the line was if you weren't coping or giving up more of your "rights" to the DNC super majority in CA, you were a budding facist and all the worst that deplorables could muster.

eventually CG got enough of a base of people out of the right side of the political spectrum that they basically use the forum for cathartic ideological masturbatory fantasies and terrible hot takes on various issues that boil down to "why do you HATE HATE HATE" and "conspiratard boomer dinosaurs" and "the educated and enlightened (and experienced and i'm better than you) have a shit opinion on a complex topic that my 10 minute forum thesis dribbled out on a CG thread will win hearts and change minds".

they all need to be pushed into the sea. people who don't agree with you aren't literally hitler/stalin, and blowing the DNC in CA/nationally is going to just pile on more "reasonable gun control" until your limited to a Daisy Red Ryder and a handful of free condoms.
I noticed that the reddit lib gun crowd refers to their ARs as muskets.

Trying to sound like patriots while voting Newsom.

Well, he said if you get a new gun, use basic ball to "break it in" ok... first being polite I thanked him, second WAT. I was just packing my stuff up and I didn't want to get into it too long (I'm sure he'd be rambling about back in Korea or some shit plus lots of useful info) New guns are all test proof shot and well ready to run for all I know?
a literally brand new firearm with nothing but a proof load or two down the pipe, if it's not mass manufactured or if it's a competition firearm, will usually have a very short period of "break in" where parts are de-burred or lightly stoned against each other, surfaces are polished a bit, and parts that move will move and ensure a clear path (rotation, sliding, cam-action, working against spring pressure, et c) - issues during this period are evident as something caught early. firearms are machines and can be fairly precise in manufacturing and expected performance.

mass manufactured weapons that aren't intended for precision shooting (such as typical infantry weapons) don't really need any break in, and neither do most modern service weapons or their sporting counterparts. there is a small carve out for "breaking in" and patterning and regulating shotgun barrels or other multi-barrel firearms, but that is sort of a special situation.

My first handgun experience was my dad buying some 9mm pistol and letting me shoot it when I was about 11. Was pretty rad!

Talking to him about guns today...turns out it was a Hi Point lol
God damn you reminded me how old I am

In the Army the guys that were issued M16's instead of an M4 referred to them as muskets.

Well I want and will have all 3 soon, but my local dealer can get a DSA or PTR FAL for same price the G3 a bit more and lol no deals on m14. Frankly I enjoy them all. Sorry I forgot to mention that part.

Yes it'll be baby puke build.
Admission time, the FAL is my favorite battle rifle, hard stop. Something about the way it looks just hits me right.

Definitely agree with you here about their aesthetics. My only disappointment with them is that I've not seen any particularly accurate examples myself, like 3-4 MOA at best. I don't expect them to be DMRs or anything but I want a little better than that.

that's perfectly fine for what they are, and that's about what the average person can shoot anyway. Even now a M4 is still considered good enough for service with 4 MOA.

Maybe its because i primarily shoot older guns like muskets and so on but 3-4 MOA is perfectly fine for any pratical application i can imagine. A Mine musket has worse accuracy than that but can land hits on a man sized target out to 500-600 (or less) yards pretty easily if you set the sights correctly and a proper powder load, and ultimately that what all these battle rifles are expected to do. Europe is still mostly just farm fields a few hundred yards wide at the most separated by tree lines or hedge rows.

sorry for my mini rant, its not directed at you. its just I've been a bit confounded at people trying to shoehorn M14/FAL/G3/SVD etc into roles they were not meant for and then getting mad when the rifle fails to meet their impossible expectations. if you shoot a gun within the context it was meant to be used within you won't ever be disappointed (unless you bought a lemon)

The only thing bad about getting a FAL these days are that most of the magazines these days, at least the newly manufactured ones, are unreliable crap. And the days of cheap FAL mags that are easily found and in great condition are long gone. If you do go FAL you'll need to plan on either rebuilding and refinishing old surplus mags in rough condition, or rolling the dice on newly made ones.

And how I would love to get one of those Ohio Ordnance M1918A3s, but not with the bakelite stock. I want one with all wood furniture. After I get my current loans paid off I plan on taking out a new loan for either one of those, one of the semi-auto FG-42 Type 2s, or a good set of helmet mounted BNVDs.

Axelson with his SEAL Recon Rifle.jpg

Sonar Technician 2nd Class Matthew Axelson with his SPR Mk 12 Mod 1 (possibly a SEAL recon rifle. the only difference is 2 inches of barrel). During the Red Wings ambush Axelson was most likely the only American who discharged his weapon. Dietz and Murphy were trying to make radio contact when they were killed. Luttrell didn't shoot much if at all. I've been doing research on Operation Red Wings. If you want to read my AAR based on 13 sources (only a few of which were pulled from my keister) the full thing will be posted to the SOCOM thread if and when I remember to do so.

Here's a pic of Dietz with something that obviously isn't a SIG stuffed in his LBE. Was the guy hard enough to hump the crew served pistol in the mountians of the Hindu Kush? We'll never know. God your rest your souls gentlemen.

An alternate view of the possible crew served pistol in Deitz' LBE; note the lanyard loop. Distinctly not the lanyard loop of a SIG.

Dietz Mess.jpg

Small aside. The "NKA" on Dietz' sleeve stands for "No Known Allegeries." People always ask about it for some reason. And, if you're wondering, Axelson rocked a SIG. A SIG is in every photo I've seen of him in Afghanistan with a pistol visible on his body. Note the distinctive grip of Axelson's SIG.

i think both a bit doubtful as it looks like that has a very distinctive magazine curved base plate, vs the USP-T and Mk 23's flat base plates in armories i've been in. the Mk 24 pre-elephant's foot shared magazines with the USP-C and had a curved base plate option as a finger rest. sort of looks like that. it could also be just that pic and i'm seeing the lanyard appear curved since it's in-line with the perspective of the baseplate. i think one of the later photo's pistol could be a Mk 23 or USP-T though especially in the photo attached and the one where you pointed out NKA.

I have acquiesced and realized that my want of an AKS74U is probably not going to happen. So I come with hat in hand to ask the good folks here.
I want one, I love the idea of a mini-AK.
Do I buy full size and then see if I can't source parts to convert it to a smaller size?
Or if not, does anyone make a decent Draco in 7.62 that isn't hood rat special shit? Or is it only Century?
