The giggle is in the lower tho, so why not do a DOE style 9mm AR? Eh if it's a fun build I'm all for it. Just not 100% if there was a reason other than because I can. And that's a totally justified reason IMHO.
Not for sure what you mean by 'DOE'. I imagine it has to do with bringing a roller-delayed blowback system to the AR platform. Which is worth a solid try, i.e. see the CMMG Banshee using radial delayed blowback for their PCCs. Which didn't exist at the time of the video which is 9 years ago. So design a custom upper that takes off the shelf MP5 parts and you got a potential seller. Or simply use it as a mockup.

9mm blowback on a tradition AR upper sucks though. I run a hydraulic buffer, special JP springs, and it still has more recoil than a decently gassed 5.56 upper. I would still love to see an off the shelf upper receiver and barrel that doesn't cost $1k (looking at you CMMG) to bring a non-direct blowback system to an AR lower.

Not for sure what you mean by 'DOE'.
US Department of Energy Federal Protection Forces use the Colt RO635. They defend nuclear material and DOE facilites like nuclear reactors. They would also be on the unmarked semis hauling waste material.

Colt RO635
while they still use the R0635 today alongside the much more modern R0933, R0991, R0992, the Colt R0633 for the DOE was a unique 9mm AR-15 variation that was the smallest AR-15 in serial manufacture featuring a 7" barrel and specialized buffer, handguard, retaining cap, and ejector block compared to the Colt R0635. the DOE valued the compatible training (from the DOD) and compactness for vehicle use over anything. it is intended to use a 147gr 9mm JHP (Federal PN P9HST2S), with Super Velocity being the original supplier then Lake City and Winchester took over production of the ammo.

The Colt model R6951 is more or less a semi-auto R0992 with a 16.1" barrel instead of 10.5". KAC makes a suppressed variation explicit to DEA entry teams due to complaints from agents over the years of hearing loss from indoor shooting.

NYC man convicted for gunsmithing hobby after judge states "the 2nd Amendment doesn't exist in my courtroom".
- Archive
A Brooklyn man has been convicted of 13 weapons charges after having been arrested and charged in 2022 for building his own firearms. Dexter Taylor’s ordeal could become a landmark Second Amendment case in light of the Bruen ruling handed down in the same year.

The jury found Taylor guilty of second-degree criminal possession of a loaded weapon, four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, five counts of criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of five or more firearms, unlawful possession of pistol ammunition, violation of certificate of registration, prohibition on unfinished frames or receivers. Two lesser charges, including third-degree criminal possession of three or more firearms and third-degree possession of a weapon, were not voted on.
Taylor, a 52-year-old New York native and a software engineer, discovered the world of gunsmithing years ago. He decided to take it up as a hobby and possibly turn it into a business later. However, when a joint ATF/NYPD task force discovered he was legally buying parts from various companies, they opened up an investigation that led to a SWAT raid and arrest.

He is currently being jailed on Rikers Island as he awaits sentencing. Taylor’s conviction highlights the ongoing battle for gun rights. During an interview with Vinoo Varghese, Taylor’s defense lawyer, he detailed how Taylor’s trial proceeded and highlighted a distinct bias in favor of the prosecution.
Varghese described how Taylor became fascinated by weapon science during the COVID-19 lockdowns, which inspired him to take up his gunsmithing hobby. “He ended up building, I believe it was eight pistols and five rifles or six rifles, AR-style rifles, and then eight or nine Glock pistols that he built,” Varghese said.

In an interview prior to his conviction, Taylor told RedState:
I found out that you can actually legally buy a receiver and you can machine that receiver to completion, and you buy your parts and you put them together and you’ve got a pistol or a rifle. And once I saw that I was hooked. I was like, ‘This is the coolest thing ever. This is the most cool thing you could possibly do in your machine shop.
From the beginning of Taylor’s trial, it was evident that the court would be biased against the defendant, according to Varghese, who explained that two judges presided over his case before the current official, Judge Abena Darkeh, took over.
The judge disrupted Varghese’s opening statement multiple times as he tried to set the stage for Taylor’s defense. Even further, she admonished the defense to refrain from mentioning the Second Amendment during the trial. Varghese told RedState:
She told us, ‘Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York.'
Varghese said he had filed the appropriate paperwork to “preserve these arguments for appeal” but that the judge "rejected these arguments, and she went out of her way to limit me.”

During the trial, the prosecution attempted to paint Taylor as a dangerous individual who was building dangerous firearms in his basement. In this vein, the prosecution objected to allowing Taylor’s family in the courtroom to show support, nor did they allow his upstairs neighbor, who knew about Tayor’s hobby, to testify on his behalf. Varghese described the prosecutor’s opening statement:

He opens up, and he says that Mr. Taylor had a parade of horror. He was building this horrible place. When they saw this horror that he was making under the noses of his neighbors because all of those guns intended to hit their targets, basically implying that he was going to do some harm with these things.
When Varghese countered this narrative during his opening statement, the judge interrupted him again. “There’s no crime here, there’s no allegation of violence,” Varghese recounted, saying, “I got up and said, ‘You’re going to learn what Dexter is, who he is. You’re going to learn that he never fired these guns.’”
The judge interrupted again and asked the lawyers to come to her chambers for the second time.
Varghese explained that he believed the only chance of having the case go in his client’s favor was through jury nullification, which occurs when members of a jury believe a defendant violated a law, but decide against prosecuting them because they disagree with the law itself, or other reasons.
Judge Darkeh attempted to shut this argument down and led the jury to believe they would face consequences if they did not vote to convict Taylor. In reality, this is not the case. Jury nullification is not illegal, according to Varghese.
“I actually argued that jury nullification is allowed because there is some law from the High Court of New York that talks about lawyers who made jury nullification arguments. And basically, they said that judges shouldn’t encourage it, but they can’t prevent it. I actually made a pitch directly to Judge Darkeh to allow me to argue during nullification. She, of course, rejected that.”

He added: “She basically said, ‘You must vote guilty’ without saying ‘you must vote guilty.’”
He characterized Judge Darkeh as “the most aggressive prosecutor in the room.”
On April 16, when it was almost time for the court to close for the day, the jury returned with a verdict. They found Taylor guilty of all but two counts. He was immediately taken into custody.
The lawyer described what happened after the verdict was read. “When the verdict was read, his mom started crying in the back, and he said to me: ‘Vinoo, please comfort my mother.’”
Varghese continued, saying Taylor also “turned around to his mother after the jury was done, he said to his mom, ‘God bless you, mom.’”
Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13, and it appears Judge Darkeh will likely make an example out of him to send a message to others who might consider building their own firearms in New York, according to Varghese. He could be facing between 10 and 18 years in prison.
However, the battle is far from over. Both Taylor and Varghese are committed to fighting this case to the end – even if it means taking it to the U.S. Supreme Court. “We have a shot at winning in federal court,” the attorney said.
And he's an afroman, no less!
:stress:

But imagine my complete lack of surprise these days, especially as they're looking to make some examples of ghostgunners and rogue printers.

Recently there was some minor Gunsphere drama on X. The cause of the controversy was a new Product by Polymer 80, The Spectre 2. What is the Spectre 2 you may ask? The Spectre 2 is a Sig style modular FCU that is compatible with glock parts and proprietary frames. The Below picture showcases two hunks of metal, the one on the bottom is the P80 Spectre 2, the one on top however, is the G100 (I mentioned them in a previous post, they are trying to sell a Glock clone with a PSA Dagger slide ((Which while I am not an industrial Engineer probably cost $100 to make)) for $800) 120R Receiver. Notice the identical machining marks and that the only difference between the two is absence of two holes
1714054741610.png

BOTH designs are clearly derived from the Defense Distributed Zero Percent FCU.

The drama here is derived from the fact that Cody Wilson is behind Defense Distributed and a bunch of people (mainly involved in the Printed gun scene) don't like Cody wilson and started going after P80 for collaborating with him.

P80 claims in this post that they are in fact NOT doing any kind of business with Cody or Defense Distributed and that they own the design for the Spectre. I would submit an archive link but both .ph and .today are being retarded and ghost doesn't want to seem to work today.

New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg has launched a new whining campaign Iniative"Games to Guns". Basically he is mad that if you look up "Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Gun" you might be recommended videos showcasing CAD Animations detailing how various firearms work and that if you watch those you might be recommended videos showcasing privately made firearms.

Yeah I meant those DOE carbines badass things. Always liked them for use and look. Thanks @Club Sandwich for expanding on them! Had no idea made for a weight of bullet.

This case in NY is going to go well in long term, call it a weirdly positive gut vibe. But... It'll take years AND the guy is going to sit in Rikers for the whole damned time. Sad but I can't not see post Heller the SC not slapping this clown shit down.

A can for the Desert Eagle? I think someone has been watching RoboCop. Too bad it is just a typical cylindrical can and isn't machined to match the contours of the Desert Eagle, like the fake suppressor in RoboCop, but that would also make designing efficient baffles for the suppressor a pain in the ass. It would be rad if it could be done, though.

Well I want and will have all 3 soon, but my local dealer can get a DSA or PTR FAL for same price the G3 a bit more and lol no deals on m14. Frankly I enjoy them all. Sorry I forgot to mention that part.

Yes it'll be baby puke build.

Excellent. That's a great FAL color

Admission time, the FAL is my favorite battle rifle, hard stop. Something about the way it looks just hits me right.

Same here

that's perfectly fine for what they are, and that's about what the average person can shoot anyway. Even now a M4 is still considered good enough for service with 4 MOA.

Maybe its because i primarily shoot older guns like muskets and so on but 3-4 MOA is perfectly fine for any pratical application i can imagine. A Mine musket has worse accuracy than that but can land hits on a man sized target out to 500-600 (or less) yards pretty easily if you set the sights correctly and a proper powder load, and ultimately that what all these battle rifles are expected to do. Europe is still mostly just farm fields a few hundred yards wide at the most separated by tree lines or hedge rows.

sorry for my mini rant, its not directed at you. its just I've been a bit confounded at people trying to shoehorn M14/FAL/G3/SVD etc into roles they were not meant for and then getting mad when the rifle fails to meet their impossible expectations. if you shoot a gun within the context it was meant to be used within you won't ever be disappointed (unless you bought a lemon)

People still get asshurt if their AR is over 1.5 MoA.... Mil spec is 3-4 Jesus Christ 🫠

I've been doing research on Operation Red Wings. If you want to read my AAR based on 13 sources (only a few of which were pulled from my keister) the full thing will be posted to the SOCOM thread if and when I remember to do so

Read "Victory Point"

TL;DR new SEALS to the region and operating environment (guys that normally drove the little sub thing) planned and executed a bad operation and got ambushed by 12-20 Taliban

I have acquiesced and realized that my want of an AKS74U is probably not going to happen. So I come with hat in hand to ask the good folks here.
I want one, I love the idea of a mini-AK.
Do I buy full size and then see if I can't source parts to convert it to a smaller size?
Or if not, does anyone make a decent Draco in 7.62 that isn't hood rat special shit? Or is it only Century?

Get the PSA Krink. Seems very good to go

Zastava is seeming like the winner. However, I am looking at the PSAs a little closer. I know it's a meme to shit on PSA, but I've honestly been really impressed by their offerings at the price point. I never expect to get gold at copper prices, but getting shiny copper is real nice. Anyone ever use the Zastava or the PSA krinks that can tell me about their longevity and durability? It's for fun and larpy range shooting, so not expecting "Dude, that thing won't even make it to ten million rounds."

PSA makes better and better stuff as time goes by. The best? No, but good enough for 90% of shooters and when parts do fail replace them with better stuff.

Their $29 lowers are A OK.

I've been thinking about getting a carry pistol, and a PSA Dagger seems like a decent quality, cheaply priced option. Seems like they have a good warranty and some of the configurations are quite sexy. As much as I'd nerd out over a Rock to shoot some 5.7, that gun is huge and carrying it looks downright painful.

It's like an ergonomic Glock 19 that takes all Glock Gen 3 parts.

Get it

Balding ex-cop is no YouTube subscription of mine. When they sell out, they sell out hard and it shows.
edit: I didn't like him to begin with, he was always one of those retards who knew just enough about guns to barely point them downrage with a history lesson formed by a cursory glance at wikipedia or a current day /k/ thread

I have multiples. (they were running two for one and buy a AR get a lower free) Carried one concealed for a year before going over to a CZ P01. Every new shooter loves the PSA Dagger, especially the ladies.

I replaced the stock PSA Dagger trigger assembly with an OEM glock one, preferred all my glocks having the same trigger pull. I don't get lightning or mucking around with a striker fired trigger. Its a bit red flames on the honda civic to me.

Thanks for the info! Regarding the trigger mods one of the above posts said people would put layers of tape on a Glock trigger to shorten the trigger reset length, so I could kind of understand that. But especially since it's single action only, how much lighter can you really make it lol

Edit: single action only on the PSA, I imagine the Glock trigger would still be SA in the Dagger?

I think its better to view striker fired guns as separate from SA or SA/DA guns. The glock trigger design is fully cocking from half cock and moving a safety plunger out of the way for the striker at the same time. Some designs remove the half cock step (including the Glock performance trigger) but for a carry gun, I'm more than happy with a 5-6lb trigger that does a couple things at once.

Don't know anything about tape on the trigger itself, but I wrapped my Glock brand glocks with hockey tape to keep from cutting part of my dominant hand on longer shooting sessions. The PSA Dagger doesn't have this problem for me since the grip is far more ergo as another poster above stated.

Edit and complete change of subject: I just got into cerakoting motorcycle parts using their C Series coatings (air cure, no oven needed) and am thinking about taking a couple of my Dagger frames and giving them wild paint jobs.

Earlier this year someone posted that Brownells was clearing out their KP15s for like $50, so goddammit, here I am building another AR.

KP15 with Aero LPK from the parts bin and SoLGW Liberty Competition trigger
Faxon pencil 16" with pinned GB, SI Miller Comp and Aero tube
Aero slick side stripped upper + random port door assembly and BCM Gunfighter CH from the leftover parts bin
12" Aero Atlas R-One
Toolcraft BCG also from random parts bin
JPE buffer thingy

Threw all the parts on a scale just to see where it landed and it's not even five pounds:

This should be another fun little run and gun toy once I put an optic on it. I'd have already assembled everything, but I want to do dumb rattlecan shit first.

cmon man, at least give a little credit! it's fair to shit on low end tuners that go around with something to prove but for the big brains out there it's not about making the civic/dagger the fastest piece of shit on the block. it's about making it just right for you!
you're spot on about them being good for new shooters though. at the risk of being looked at like a fool comparing them to games they kinda remind me of resident evil 4's starter pistol. it's not spectacular with anything particular but if you stick with it the gun's never going to let you down. i'm slapping one together for my old man's birthday/father's day and i'm excited to the point of powerlevelling and telling you all! i'm flipping the script since when i was a teenager i always told him i wanted a gun for my birthday. it's gonna be a stainless slide, a black frame, and a black fluted barrel.
