I'm going to get a Tikka T3x because I want one.
My conundrum is this -- I do enjoy .30-06 and .308, they're both great, but I do want to get into the stereotypical hunting rounds. I find .270 Win to be interesting since the hunting buddies use it, but commercial loadings leave much to be desired with a decrease in bullet weight over the decades to 150 grains at their heaviest. Though I am also intrigued by 6.5x55 Swede, because it's got a lot of fuddlore behind its prowess although I haven't seen it on the shelves of my local shops.
My distances will be ~100-300 yards, rarely 500. Caliber diversity is not a concern, my working guns are well stocked. Soft points/JHP/Copper projectiles will be the focus because it will be a gamegetter on top of being used for general long distance funsies.

Anyone have experience with Tikka, .270 Win and/or 6.5 Swede or all of the above? Or just shill your durr gun, discussion is healthy.
I've looked up reviews and even reloading forums but caliber wars get terrible when it comes to innawoods, I tell you what.
6.5x55 is basically 6.5 creedmoor performance wise.

Speaking of bore snakes, does anyone have favorite brands? I've been using the Otis Ripcord snakes for .223, 9mm and 12 gauge for a while now and like them enough. I guess the whole selling point is that they use materials other than brass to clean gunk out. No idea if they're any better than snakes with brass bristles.

I have a bunch of bore guides, cleaning rods and bore cleaners, but I find myself only using them when I really want to clean out the barrels of any guns I won't be shooting for a while. The bore snakes are just so much more convenient.

Back in the day Ukrainians made what is essentially a Russian PP-90 (and they say that they are totally a super different distinct ethnicity and totally not Russians, while making the same guns at different times in different places)
I remember that gun in world of guns. Can't you fold it like an fmg9?

Came into possession of a fairly nice custom shop kimber 1911 for dirt cheap. Old fella that owned it died and his wife just wanted it out of the house. Do 1911s still have trouble running hollow points? Any suggestions for .45 defensive loads? I had a para ordinance 14.45 years ago that wouldn't take hydra-shoks to save its (or my) life.

kimber 1911
You have my condolences.

With good magazines you will have no trouble, even without a ramped barrel. As always give it a try at the range, buy a box of your ideal round and a bunch of cheap JHPs on the side.
para ordinance
Not a great example of a 1911 company, unfortunately.
The worst of the not great 1911s, unfortunately.

What is a good silicone carbide mix? I’m planning on mixing it with some matched paint and applying it to grip tape on my frame. I honestly like the little nubbin of the 19x and will apply a sling to it.

One peculiarity of the 19x is it cannot use 17 round Gen 5 mags because of the “Snowplow” on the front of the grip. You either have to modify the pistol or the mags. Completely unrelated to your question, but I thought you might want to know.

So I’ve decided I’m not going to use silicone carbide because it’ll be impossible to paint. Maybe I’ll experiment with some on grip tape.

Is it possible to mix sand and paint with acrylic to brush it on some tape?

I’m a retard and will do whatever is necessary to avoid changing out this factory frame.

Afaik you can't glue Nylon which is what most new guns use. The adhesive on tape isn't really a regular type of glue, it's just a tacky sort of thing that doesn't actually cure, therefore it'll work just fine basically no matter what. Don't really know how to explain it besides it being a physical bond and not a chemical one.

Only thing worse than glueing sand to your gun is using a soldering iron on your frame for the first time imo

Damn, bubba at the racist gun shop down the road offered to do a sick stippling job for $50.

Thoughts on the .38 Special, gunbros? Dont know much about guns, but I have a buddy that wants to sell one. Would give it to me for 150 bucks, he says.

what actually is the gun? it should be marked on the barrel or frame, typically with a brand or logo. .38 special was a police service cartridge for the better part of 70 years and in some places still serves a similar role.

Nice. Glocks aren't my favorite but it should serve you well.
Also from the Pre-SMO DPR we have a 44kg 23x152mm "Anti-Sniper Rifle"

On the cartridge itself, since I have one. It's a decent round with a proven track record and proven loads. Out of a snubbie with a 2 inch barrel like in a S&W Model 36 its a hot 380 auto with more weight but less speed, and out of a 4 inch barrel, say in a S&W Model 10, it's basically 9mm, especially with +p. Recommend the FBI load for duty carry. It's also extremely common in the revolver world, the 9mm of revolvers.
