I got "good" at shooting by shooting at 4 inch targets. Started at 5-7 yards, slowly worked it up to 10-15.How the hell do I shoot good
I went to the range again today and zeroed my red dot properly before putting another 150 rounds through the barrel. I’m up to 350 rounds shot with my gun and my form is doodoo dogshit.
My accuracy is alright when I go slow and work my way to the trigger wall; I overcompensate and dip down left if I’m rapid firing, that’s if I’m not trying to find my reticle. How the hell do I get gud?
I feel like I may be too rigid and not letting the gun recoil correctly back onto target. At least I feel like I’m making progress trying to learn holster draw and getting into low ready/compressed ready position. I finally stopped racking a new mag like a newbie and started letting the slide release chamber for me.
the big reason is that I could put 4 onto a single piece of printer paper and that'd give me 4 targets to shoot at per piece of paper.
the other benefit to doing that is that it very quickly shows you what you are doing wrong & correct any mistakes.
Also, rapid firing is a mega meme perpetuated by Big Influencer, and you shouldn't do it until you can get good at precision shooting. Go slow until you can confidently hit your target. Only then should you go faster.
People will tell you to release the trigger right as the gun fires, but if you're new, I don't think you should. When the trigger breaks, hold it down until your sight picture returns, then slowly release the trigger until you feel the reset. Shooting like that forces you to go slow and pay more attention to each shot. As you shoot more and more, you should be able to do the procedure faster and eventually skip the reset altogether.
I assume you're familiar with dry firing, so I won't talk about that.
all of this takes time. you will not get good overnight, but it will come with time.
