Are there any single-stack 9x19mm pistols (that aren't mainly intended as concealed carry pocket pistols)? I'm in this weird middle area where bigger calibers would kick more than I'd like and I think Glocks/Berettas are intended for bigger hands than mine.

The Browning Hi-Power or CZ-75 series should be fine for you, to be frank. People occasionally complain about the grip on those being on the smaller side.

Colt was even monumentally retarded though, They axed almost the entirety of their civilian firearms except for 1911's. All the revolvers were cut. The revolver was THE Colt product. they damn near invented it. and it was cut because general keyes wanted to make more M4s.
I'm not sure they have a choice. if they admit fault they are mega fucked, because its pretty clear they know something is fucked up with the P320, just like Remington knew the M700 was dangerous. they'll be buried under liability pay outs. at least with their current course they have a chance, however small it may be, that they might get away with it.

Not single stack but Walther PDP-F. Is your issue that the circumference of the grip is too large or the distance from the back to the trigger is too far? The PDP-F should fix both either way.
Also how tiny are your hands, even Trump sized hands shouldn't really have a problem with a non-slimline Glock, many women compete with them too.

Medium to large hands shouldn't have any issue with most of the wonder 9s, they're made for the masses not gigachads with xxxl hands with 200lb grip strength. I would suspect it's not a grip size issue, nor a grip strength issue, but a training issue. Ben Stoeger has been a big proponent of not trying to wrestle the gun but gripping it just enough to have it reliably return to your point of aim. Maybe the strain or issue you're dealing with the double stack 9s you've been shooting is you're gripping too strongly. Or maybe you really do not get on well with Glock or Beretta ergos.

I think you misunderstand. I haven't used a firearm before, but in the event I ever got a handgun I'd want to start right-ish the 1st time, and from what I've seen of Glocks up close (i.e. interacting/working with cops) those things look pretty big and I can't imagine I'd find them wieldy. I could be wrong, I suppose.

Ahh, well you won't know until you try out a few and a great deal of it is preference, but I assure you Glocks are very wieldy for most people and as an engineer I hope you appreciate that they are remarkably simple in terms of # of parts and function.

There are countless female police officers worldwide who carry a Glock 17 daily and pass multiple quals a year without any issues. You'll be more than fine.
Provided you actually train and practice of course. Especially with dryfire.

Glock 48s feel real nice imo. I really like slender grips even though I don't have small hands and I find the Glock 48 feels good man. But you should really get your hands on them first. Go to a gun store or a gun show near you and get your hands on a bunch of different guns and figure out what feels right to you.

If you are a medium sized glove a G19 sized gun will be perfect. I prefer the CZ P-10C personally, but it's basically just a G19 with a better trigger and grip.

You want room for your support hand. I wear XL gloves and find the Glock too small, and have to use the large backstrap accessory.

You should go to a gun store that has a range and rentals. Asking around will get you good advice but there's no replacing getting your hands on something and actually shooting it for a bit. There's a zillion tiny little things that you can't account for that very quickly become evident when you're using things as they're intended (not just guns, stuff in general).
A lot of places I've been to have deals where you can spend a little bit more to get access to the whole array of rental guns. Go with a list of stuff you're interested in. Most ranges with rentals will have All-Stars plus some curiosities.
Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Find something that appeals to you, fits your needs, and is comfortable to shoot. You'll be more willing to actually shoot the damn thing if its a gun you like.
I hate Glocks but only because they're popular (for a reason) and I've made hating popular things my entire personality.

Depends on the size of the gun you want but look at Walther.
They absofuckinglutely refuse to really join dual stack modernity in many of their guns. I have a CCP M2. I enjoy it. It is single stack. Similarly for the PPS M2.
Their new PD380 in .380 ACP is also, for reasons unknown, a single stack magazine. If you aren't comfortable with larger caliber then the PD380 might be a good option.
As mentioned above, try the PDP-F. It was designed specifically for people with concerns like yours.
If this is your first gun, a Walther is a pretty solid option. One of the best triggers for striker fired. Very reliable.
Issue is that many ranges for liability and security issues won't let you rent a gun without bringing your own as well.
