Mega Rad Gun Thread

But I think I'd like it as a jacket carry during winter. Any thoughts on which I should go with?
CZ82, actual milsurp made for police/military use. A very modernized makarov, way better sights, polygonal rifling, 12rd magazine, ambi controls, push button mag release and frame mounted safety. These are already pretty complex guns and apparently CZ originally intended the safety to also work as a decocker similar to HK hammer guns- but the mechanism got so complicated they couldnt get it to work reliably so they just put a spur hammer on it and said be careful decocking it.

(To be clear I'm not actually being autistic about muh milsurp higher quality, I'm sure they are the same gun. I just mean the 82 is cooler. What's one more caliber right?)

Like a makarov though they are really snappy, gun has a lot of attitude for being such a "wimpy" cartridge on paper. Fun to shoot.

I personally don't see the horror at the thought of carrying one of these as far as ballistics goes. Sure 9x18 is not ideal but its certainly more than .32auto. Just make sure its reliable and don't even bother with meme hollowpoints in 9x18. They sell spring sets for these might throw one in for reliability.

But legally speaking, I might be wary of carrying one simply because IIRC they are not really drop safe in the modern sense of the word. If you drop it you might summon Johnny Law.

As Fur Fag said, don't be scared off by the finish on these. Its basically baked on paint so it flakes off relatively easily. Always wanted to get one DLC coated, the silhouette is very handsome.

I will tell you one thing to inspect at FFL before signing 4473- check the safety detent. Some older models have a little steel ball swaged in the frame a certain way and it can come loose and ride above the safety lever where it rides the detent. Safety will still operate but it will just be a smooth glide up and down, no positive click against the detent. Newer models swaged the ball a better way. I have no clue of actual date ranges for this. Remember they are polygonal barrels, when you inspect bore condition dont mistake it for a shot out barrel.

Convert that Beretta to .32 ACP like God intended

I got to shoot a Chiappa 40DS the other day and thought it was cool. Had an issue with light strikes on some PMC 357 but it was fine with 38spl so idk what the deal was. Had a black thumb after I was done with it

Likely hard primers. .357 MAG uses magnum primers which are harder to withstand the higher pressures. .38 uses small pistol primers which are softer.

a lot of manufacturers get a better trigger pull by using a weaker mainspring instead of polishing the action parts because polishing work on these actions are best done by hand which is expensive. you can get a good trigger with a light spring but a light spring may well suffer on hard primers.

A hard spring is hardly noticable with a properly slicked up action. all those old S&W's with great actions have stiff mainsprings. the old colts too. its just that the action is so smooth that it isn't a hindrance to your shooting. My 80s vintage combat magnum has a great action and pops all primers that i give it.

These are awesome, but the 83 is also worth considering. You lose the polygonal rifling, but you do get a shitload more defensive ammunition options by having it chambered in .380 and it uses the same mags, which are surprisingly thin on the ground - check numrich, apex and gunbroker.

Theres still a bunch of Guardia Finanza Beretta 84BBs out and about from big milsurp sellers too. They're a bit chunkier than the 82/83, but also take .380 and have decent capacity. The sights are a little small but they shoot very well otherwise. Mags are widely available and cheap.

Alternately, just buy a Bodyguard 2.0, which is shockingly shootable for a gun that small and very reasonably priced. It's on my list for when the 365XL is somehow too big.

EDIT: I Form 1'd an existing AR to an SBR because I want to make a dumb fun suppressor host out of it with a freshly built 11.5 upper and also did the same for my 9mm Dissent while I was at it mostly so I can replace the brace end with the stock end of my SI folder.

I did some reading and looking into things, I think I know what I want, BUT... I rather ask my autistic gun frenz online than trust those "pros" who work at gun shops or were special forces.

I'm thinking irons for my 8" 300 Kanye (blackout) gun. It's a backpack gun (same BP I bring to work etc) IF I ever use it I'm not taking sniper shots etc. I want as LOW a profile for a sight since it's a railed gun.

These SeeAlls look dope AF. I have some gen 2 fagpul BUIS handy. I also donated my Vortex to my dad and can get that back. I just don't know what's a good low pro for nothing mot than 50feet.

Took mrs out to range, she's unsettling good with scatter guns, but she REALLY liked my SMLE. Thought it kicked a bit but felt the bolt was so glass. 303 ain't cheap sadly. I don't think any milsurp is left in the world. Either way, we had nice time and she found a new fave rifle.

Just run a direct mount with a tube style red dot. I run a Crossfire with its lowest mount on an AR9 and with a thin brace I like it quite a bit. Very little height over bore. I can't acquire targets or shoot as fast with irons, idk about you

Dang these look fucking cool. I would also like to hear about anyone with personal experience with these.
They're pretty neat, though on mine the polycarbonate lens bit at the back scratched pretty easily. Very fast to acquire. Mine was the non-illuminated model, so it was definitely a daylight-only thing. Was a lot of fun on a 10/22 for plinking.

a standard carry handle sight (fixed or mounted) is no taller than a optic would be.

If anyone else has experience with ultrasonics and want to share tips and tricks, I'd appreciate it.
Late update, but someone I know who works in a lab who uses ultrasonic cleaners regularly said that instead of plastic bags, he uses glass containers. There's more considerations, like the type of glass, thickness, geometry, and also you have to isolate it from the edges of the tank, but it has advantages if you can't or wont do direct immersion.

GOOD NEWS FOR OLD GUN FANS!
The VOLCANIC repeating pistol is back via Uberti!

for 2027, and in .380 ACP
FUCK YEAH! Surprising it took this long for repros of those to be made! It would be interesting to see how they incorporated extraction/ejection for this thing, given that the OG volcanics shoot technically caseless ammo. You can see how the port at the top is smaller on the original one and larger on the repro so it could eject spent casings. They probably just copy pasted whatever mechanism is used for the Henry rifle or Winchester 1866, given that those are very similar designs (toggle locked lever action) to the Volcanic. It's understandable that they made it .380 too, very short cartridge, allows the lever to have short travel compared to even .22lr.

bouttah start a war in here but which pump do you consider better:

OLD 870s rock.
Reliable as stone and parts /accessories/mods for days.
Any 870 made in the last 15-20 years is sus IMO.

THE 500/590/88 is just as good but comes up a little short on the aftermarket.
Also, unless it's changed recently, the magazine tube is difficult to swap on the Mossberg due to the way the barrel attaches.
So if you want one that holds more than 5/6 shells you need to buy a longer barreled model.
