Are there any good places left to order a 15" AR 15 handguard? I put off ordering one from last year like an idiot and now it seems like every website is either out of stock or wants $250 for one. Seriously considering just ordering a $30 one off of aliexpress and calling it good.

Primary Arms has some stuff from Faxon, Aero and Odin Works for around $150. Some other handguards for less, but maybe of dubious quality (Guntec USA, UTG, etc.)

Finally got back to shooting again after a long while, so I may pop my head in here to ask the occasional question.

Out of curiosity, if this the closest we have to a knife thread?

I'm still a newfag, so no idea. I'm not averse to knife content, though.
As I said, I am trying to build my kit up for the vax-wars, and wanted to probably get a new knife to go with my guns. I have a spyderco that I've had for years that I am gonna buy a stone and leather to try and sharpen, but it my be too far gone from the retarded abuse I put it through. Was curious if anyone had a good tacti-fool knives without breaking the bank. Cold Steel Recon 1, Emerson, Different Spyderco, Ka-Bar, my cock?

If you're just looking for a workaday fixed blade, buy a Mora. The Companion is under $20 and offers a Sandvik stainless blade that'll hold a decent edge for a while. The Garberg is seriously legit, but also about 4x the cost

If you're looking for an end of days type thing, buy a couple of Moras and then hit up Etsy. Lots of makers doing some really cool stuff. Check out Vasver Blades and Warm Knives, as well as some of the other makers from former combloc states. I'd avoid UK based sellers because most of them are just selling garbo Pakistani or Indian crap.

Another option: Varusteleka has some very nice Finnish fixed blades as well as Bundeswehr surplus folders.

Spydercos are solid. Easiest way to resharpen them if you're not a pro is the Spyderco Sharpmaker, it helps keep the angles consistent. Get the diamond stones for some of the harder steels like S110v. Also wouldn't hurt to invest in or make a leather strop, slap some DMT diamond compound on it, like the 3 micron one.

For essential outdoor knives can't really beat Moras, get as many as you can, hide them around the house, give them out to friends, etc. I found the cheaper models to be the best, the full tang Garberg one seems unnecessary and even the thicker Bushcraft Black one takes away from some of its utility.

For more built up stuff check out the Ka-Bar Becker series. Very well designed, lots of accessories like sheaths and shit out there. The BK2 is a sharpened crowbar, the other ones are a little thinner but longer.
This one is the BK9, one of the more popular models.

If you can find a discontinued BK4, should get it, they're worth their weight in gold.

Some other people like ESEE or Ontario for similar style knives, and the ESEE Izula is definitely worth a mention.

I use a pachymr folder on my support side in case someone tries to go for my gun. On my plate carrier, I have a Benchmade SOCP as an OH SHIT! if I get tackled to the ground etc.

Honestly, if you're going to blades, you've fucked up.

Got my hands on a glock field knife recently. The saw is good for notching but sucks at going through a branch. Pretty solid blade but not very wide for camping work. Closer in design to a fighting knife. Good quality for a budget blade.

If you want a portable saw, look at the Bahco Laplander or the Silky Gomboy 210 or 240. They fold up small enough to fit into a GHB or BOB and just tear through wood.

Good knife, they're very robust. Fun fact, it's also a bayonet for some Kraut guns. The steel on those blades is softer than average so it's rather difficult to chip, the edge will roll or fold rather than chip. Really easy to sharpen too, won't keep a scary sharp edge for long, but that's not the intended purpose.

Edit: If you're gonna throw it, put some reflective tape on the grip so it's easier to find. Those knives are balanced well for throwing, and are hard to break.

I dont have any intentions for throwing it, i got it for my camping bag. I have proper throwers left over from my days as a flea market knife vendor. I carried a pretty large and varied inventory.

The idea of throwing a good knife is usually pretty horrifying for me, seen enough broken bayonets and knives from being thrown back in the day. Still, the Glock Feldmesser is robust enough to handle some throws and the balance on it is just begging for it.

Pro-Tip: Don't even get drunk with former Spetznaz types and show them that knife, they will take the entire evening to teach you to throw it. Had to throw out a perfectly good punching bag after that.

Spetznaz throw hatchets & shovels, Sayarot ( סיירת מטכ״ל‎) throw knives; they just let people think they're Russian.
Both Sayeret Matkal and Spetznaz will throw whatever is handy, whether knives, shovels, screwdrivers, rocks, etc. For the most part it's presented in the manner of "you have to be a real dumb cunt to lose your primary and your sidearm to end up having to throw a knife, but here's how it's done anyway."

Also yeah, there are enough Russian speakers in Sayeret (and the IDF in general) that they have no problems passing for Russian when needed. The joke used to be during the cold war/various wars with the Arabs that you'd hear Russian swears from both sides of the trenches, either from immigrants or from Soviet "advisors."

Alright, I did some research on what was recommended. I also Thought more carefully about what I actually want.

First, the Mora is what I didn't realize I want. The Mora Companion especially is perfect, will look to grabbing one for home, and one for adventuring.

Second, That spyderco knife sharping kit is expensive, are good stones also around this price? Cost like 3x as much as my knife did back when I got it. Now I don't mind paying the price for a proper stone/leather, but I rather have a nice knife to go with it, namely a drop point/spear point folder. I like what I see with the Benchmade Bug Out (no serrations) but lmk what alternatives you would recommend.

Mora are a must own for everyone. It's too cheap not to. I got turned on to them in a survivalist school I took when I was 18. I still got that Mora.

The spyderco sharpener is pricy I got gifted one and it's awesome for serrated edges like holy shit it works.

Snagged a holosun red dot for cheap at a gun show and it's really good for what it is. Not gonna be shooting my AKs or SKS soon I think :(

Well, with a little bit of luck, within the next 120 days or so I will hopefully have my Auto Mag. And it looks like I picked a good time to order mine, because in the very near future they will be increasing the base price on them by $500.

Nice! I have the itch to buy a new gun, but nothing out there is really appealing to me. I picked up a carry gun last year and that was really the last thing I felt I was missing. Now I find myself browsing for a can mostly.
