Nice! I have the itch to buy a new gun, but nothing out there is really appealing to me. I picked up a carry gun last year and that was really the last thing I felt I was missing. Now I find myself browsing for a can mostly.
Hey fags, back again to shit up this thread considering the good advice I got on the knives.
Was looking for a concealed carry gun and tried out a couple of the popular options at the range. I thought I was gonna like the sig p365 the best but I honestly preferred the Glock style better. That said, I'm debating on which Glock is most practical for me, cuz I could only eyeball them in my hands, no sticking em down my pants...
If I could pull it off for everyday carry, the 19 would be my favorite, but it may be too big. On the other hand the G43x is slimmer and has those extra capacity aftermarket mags, but being the same height as the 19, I'm not sure it is really helping more then it's handicap. Last is the G26, which I know for sure I could carry, but it is pretty much stuck with 10 rds if I want to benefit from the size and no MOS option if I ever feel the need for it.
It's weird to think I would want an optic on a carry gun. 4 years ago I would laugh hearing people do it, but here we are.
1) I didn't want to spend the cash to compare, is there any easy way to tell if I would want finger grooves or not? All the models I used were the new style without them, the closest I ever got to finger grooves was a Walther P99 handle from like 12 years ago. I only ask because I have sweaty hands, and won't be wearing gloves when out and about.
2) What new production Gen would you recommend (3,4, or 5) in terms of features and quality? I always hear people say Gen 3 is still the best but idk if it's true with the old spring design and shit, or is it just nostalgic coping. I do not plan on going mod happy, I want "glock perfection" out the box, I have other guns that already eat enough budget with mods.

Yeah, I know they're out there, same as sanding down if you don't like em, but I maybe just wanna hear some testimony for and against, if it really helps with handling or recoil maybe? Does it feel as shitty as a A2 grip with the huge bump on those?
They may be old school, but you just can't beat the accuracy, power and reliability of a revolver. From the Colt single action to the Smith and Wesson double action 44 and the five pound when fully loaded 500 magnum.

How are you going to carry? Appendix inside the waistband? Or belt holster? For appendix carry, typically the thinner the better - even then, it’s still an uncomfortable way to carry. On the belt, you can get away with a thicker gun. In either case, the shorter the grip is usually better as this is what will stick out and get caught on things. Pocket carry is another option but in my experience requires a very small gun - the Ruger LCP is about the right size for this option.

Ideally, I'm looking to carry IWB, either appendix or by the kidney. I think my clothing choices will be carry friendly but i don't want it to be painful while sitting.

I own a 19, 43x, and 26. I've appendix carried all three comfortably. It comes down to investing in a decent holster really. In terms of generation the 19 is a 5 and the 26 is a 4. The five is a big enough leap from four that it's worth it though I really love the 26 still.
If you can rent all three I'd do a shooting test to see how you like them in you're hand.

"We are excited to announce that the long-awaited reprint of Chassepot to FAMAS has arrived at our fulfillment center and is now shipping! We appreciate the patience of our supporters who have been on our backorder list, and we can't wait to get this book in your hands.
This Second Printing of the First Edition of the book is in almost all respects identical to the First Printing of the First Edition, with the exception of the following changes: (1) “First Edition” has been removed from the spine of the exterior of the book; (2) spine hubs are no longer gilded; and (3) a limited number of corrections/adjustments have been made to the text."
I haven't even seen any used first editions come back up for sale yet, anywhere; and I can highly recommend this book, even if French rifles aren't your thing.
They've always sort of been unobtanium for average milsurp collectors, aside from 2nd line rifles like Bethiers from former French colonies; in the course of 20+ years prior to things like GunBroker, I've only ever seen a handful of Lebels for sale on a table or rack, and even fewer being shot at a range. Even when online trading picked up & former French unicorns became somewhat more common, the problem with frog firearms has always been ammo. Even commercial reloads have always had issues, and I've never known anyone who owned French guns to not constantly bitch about feeding them.
I think the scarcity has always driven an interest in them; but other than for articles in Shotgun News, etc, things like the RSC-M1917 & FAMAS were doomed to relative obscurity until Ian's projects came along.
I really do have to get into hand loading some day, will be cheaper than decent factory ammo. This season got 180gr Sako Super Hammerhead for black bear, and 168gr ELD-M Hornady Match for deer, all for a .308 bolt-action. Or could just use the .270 Win. which should work for everything. Got 145gr ELD-X Hornady Precision Hunter for that one.
Speaking of which, what is the practical difference between ELD-X and ELD-M for hunting, if there is one? From what I understand ELD-M has an improved BC due to slightly jacket design and other small changes but for most intents and purposes it should perform about the same for hunting, right?

The ELD-M is a match bullet and won’t expand. The ELD-X is the expanding hunting version of the same bullet (but the cross-section diagrams of both bullets look the same to me).

Yeah, I couldn't tell apart too many differences in the cross-section diagram either. Saw plenty of reports of people hunting with it, so it seemed like a decent option. Shoots really well out of my rifle, which is the important part.
I did hear people say that with higher velocity calibers (in 6.5cm for example) the problem with the ELD-M is the bullet exploding when hitting heavy bone, causing damage to the meat. Slightly slower and heavier .30 cal. bullet should not be as prone to that, in theory.
I read a few articles that the Taliban preferring to use M4s over AK-47s meaning the AR platform is superior to the AK platform in their view. I guess given the choice, they went with America lol.

You take what you can get. There were Taliban fighters using Lee-Enfield SMLE IV's, patched up with duct tape. There's the Kyber Pass Specials, an assortment of handmade guns that range from barely functioning to near perfect copies of other weaponry. So yes, having a bunch of newer weapons laying around means they'll pick them up to use. Ammunition stockpiles though might become a slight issue. While Pakistan and India both make 5.56x45, Pakistani manufacture of the round is limited and India isn't selling to them. The Russians don't and won't want to do arms deals with the Taliban. Iranians do make 5.56, but once again, I doubt they'll sell it to the Taliban. This leaves Pakistan as the primary source of ammunition, and they make more 7.62x39 than anything else, and are about to offload chunks of their Chinese Type 56 rifles as they're upgrading to AK-103's (and almost certainly will sell the locally manufactured ones to the Taliban). Ammunition stockpiles of 5.56x45 will go dry after a while most likely, so the AK is going to stick around longer IMO, as new Egyptian and Eastern European rifles being among the ANA stocks will almost certainly happily get picked up by the Taliban.
