Metal Gear

I decided to look again at models and there's literally an entire level here that matches this pic that's not shown in the main game:
I honestly never thought I'd see the day where this happens. I can't wait to see the inevitable scene reconstructions.

It's gonna be weird to have a game series which so heavily steals borrows tropes and entire characters from hollyjew movies, be a hollyjew movie itself. Not a recipe for success, then again, videogame movies never are. At least as a "game" there are things that only games can do (arguably Koji's greatest strength is these elements), with or without the blatant hollyjew theft... but as a movie, we already have better versions of every character arc and trope and story beat a MG movie could do. Go watch Rambo instead. Go watch Escape from New York instead. Go watch The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly instead. Go watch From Russia With Love instead. Go watch any number of the movies Koji ripped off... You'll be sitting on your ass and not interacting with it all the same.

Even the original MGS intro scene is apparently a rip off of some nicholas cage(?) movie or some shit about infiltration. Even Koji's "magnum opus" is derivative.
all art is derivative pastiche and as long as it's not too much of a ripoff you can get away with quite a lot of similarities. i still haven't seen Interstellar because as far as i'm concerned it's just a less interesting version of 2001 A Space Odyssey that tries to tug on your heartstrings instead of doing cosmic horror

metal gear solid is obviously a pastiche of a bunch of kurt russel movies and on it's surface it's some basic bitch Tom Clancy movie but Metal Gear Solid is ultimately a story about not holding children to the sins of their fathers and letting them choose their own legacy. like every single character in that game is essentially forced into doing the things they're doing because they were essentially born into it and solid snake is really the only one that actually takes any agency over it instead of wallowing in self-pity

I was gonna be a debbie downer but I decided to look again at models and there's literally an entire level here that matches this pic that's not shown in the main game:

I think this crash model is in the model viewer of one of the re-releases (substance or subsistance?). I remember looking at it as a kid and being weirded out, something about huge objects in an empty void get to me.

The fact this just barely missed April 30th pisses me off more than it should lol

Look at those funny little markings underneath the pictures. We call them words.

I cant read...

We'll get a MGS3 source code leak on August 25th if this is a pattern to go by!

Is that when the Big Boss files will be declassified, thus bringing a new wave of CQC among soldiers? Which will coincidentally cause soldiers that know the real deal to react to the cookie cutter shit with it?

Here's that Tanker sinking effect you can see in the E3 2001 trailer/flashbacks in the final game. Seems like it was just a special effect, no sound effects or gameplay programmed for it.

i always thought the particle effects from the trailer were ps2 tech demo wankery. look at how many particles we can have on screen, the xbox and the gamecube can't do THIS many particles without slowing down!

A lot of MGS2, particularly the Tanker chapter, is tech demo wankery. I think DigitalFoundry did a deep dive some time back and showed that you can knock ice out of a bucket and watch them melt in real time. Just random little details I think they had fun making in order to sell the realism of the environment.

It's difficult not to think of the crew lounge as "the E3 room" since no other room in the game has that many interactable objects in one place.

This... actually seems pretty fucking big. Holy shit.

If only the leak date was April 30th and not May 1st.
I think Sons of Liberty is pretty perfect as is, but if they restore cutscenes revolving Arsenal it would revitalize my love for the series.

I remember one version of MGS2 came with another CD called "The Document of MGS2". Wonder if that is in this leak? (My original CD is all scratched up (:_()
I don't think it was bundled in the states, since I remember it always being a standalone here. I still have my copy somewhere.

It's not even particles, it's just animated billboards (nice particle systems running on VU0 would come later on the platform). Very well put together ones (the MGS series never skimped on art direction), and in those days this *was* impressive, especially since it runs at 60FPS. One has to remember that people were comparing this to PS1, on CRT screens.

It does show how stupidly fast the fillrate (for the time) is on the PS2
