Metal Gear

I liked it. And can’t wait to play it again.
I'm so fucking old I remember when people mocked that "game" for being a movie and they were totally correct. The story was Kojima trying to tie up every loose end in the prior games in the most nonsensical way. The online mode felt tacked on. Overall it felt like a downgrade from MGS3 outside of muh grafix and while I understand people being happy it's no longer in NoGamestation hell... the game itself sucks.

I was in college when that game came out. And I do remember the people mocking the game for the amount of cut scenes. And I also remember the 360 fanboys who also wanted the game on Xbox.

As much as I hate games that try to be movies, the MGS games do get a pass from me due to nostalgia. And I replayed 1 and 2. 1 seemed to have cinematics that went on for too long.

Kaneto Shiozawa died in 2000 but Takumi Yamazaki (who played Ocelot in MGS3) does a perfect impression of him. He's taken over a lot of Shiozawa's roles, including Gray Fox for the MGS Bande Desinee
I'll be honest, the whole "Japan never recasts" thing was something I heard like 10+ years ago and is probably just some bullshit made up by a weeb, I'm sure.

We all know Kojimas decision making is a lot gayer than simply trying to be respectful.

Anyway, logged on cause I say Master Collection Vol 2 was announced. All of MGS4's criticisms for being too long of a movie are valid. The fact that there is actually a decent game under there (just not enough of it) might even make it more valid.

Then again, Kojima also made MGSV so I'm not sure if I can honestly ever complain about MGS4 ever again.

No, Kojima openly said he didn't want to use Colonel Campbell any more because Takeshi Aono (who also played Kami/King Piccolo) died. Of course if he really wanted, he could have used Young Campbell, played by Toshio Furukawa (who also played Piccolo Jr) instead. Also, Kojima had Liquid Ocelot voiced by Banjo Ginga (who played Liquid Snake) in the Japanese version because Koji Totani (who played Revolver Ocelot) died in like 2006

Peace Walker has its' multiplayer, but MGS4 doesn't.

I really love MGS4. It's not the best one, but I still love it
I'll stand by every complaint I made back in 2008 about the writing trying too hard to tie everything together at the end.

But at the same time, after playing MGSV, I think I judged it too harshly. I still go back and play MGS4 just for the gameplay in the first two chapters at least, which I can't say for MGSV at this point even with Infinite Heaven.

Peace Walker kind of has to, doesn't it?

I mean, I played it solo, but the game was kind of designed around co-op...

No Portable Ops? I know it's non-canon, but so is Ghost Babel and they've put that in there

Only thing that bothers me about MGS4 is that Meryl married the guy who shits himself. Not only that but the guy who shits himself, when he's not shitting himself A) turned out to be a handsome man (who perhaps, not-so coincidentally looks a little bit like a young Snake) and B) turns out to be a fairly competent soldier (which contradicts everything we'd seen of him up until that point)

Apart from that, yes the long cutscenes and exposition are tedious but not enough to bring it down for me. Enough for it not to be my favourite MGS but not enough to bring it down for me

Was it? I played it solo too and I never got the impression it was designed around co-op.

I think that is truly the biggest sin. Meryl, the woman who was using a Desert Eagle before she wore a bra, suddenly wanted a wedding with the first guy available the whole time? Blegh

While I roll my eyes at the whole "Everyone from MGS3 turned out to be The Patriots", I also accept that was the only possible explanation for screaming retards who didn't "get it" with the Philosophers explanation in MGS3.
Big Boss also showing up to hug it out with Snake also irks me, but funny enough it ends up being the one of the things that makes the most sense with how much Kojima pussified Big Boss in the following games.

IDK, MGS4 is still entertaining in the end even if it's kind of cliche. I'd rather have Kojima hurringly trying to tie everything up in a nice bow and rolling my eyes a bit over Kojima just saying fuck it and not giving a fuck about anything just so he can shit out whatever weird statement he wants about languge.

I mean, the announcement trailer ended with four Snakes preparing to take on the flying AI mech. I remember it being a decent part of the marketing back in 2010.

Someone can correct me on this, but I swear to God the bosses were a lot harder on PSP without co-op than it was on PS3/360 too. I know the controls were better but it seemed like they just weren't as damage spongey too.

So how the fuck are they going to get MGS4 to work on the OG Switch? If the devs can do that, then that’s absolute black magic.
It will just be a playthrough of the game with cutscenes like the MGS3 Subsistence "movie" disk.

I'm gonna need to see how much they're cutting out of them first. There's no way either game is shipping as they initially came out, they've both got a ton of licensed shit in them, plus there's always random shit they cut out for no discernible reason like Guy Savage in the HD collection. Leaving out MGO2 is already disgraceful.
