Metro Devs throw hissy fit over planned boycott of Epic Store - Threatens to block future PC ports.

Metro Devs in a couple months after release, also applies to Bioware (Anthem) and EA/DICE (Battlefield 5) too.

Goddammit you fucking Ukrainian dumbasses. You had this in the bag. You were just a few weeks out and you had people hyped for your game. You could've placed the blame on Deep Silver and Koch Media for the Epic Store fiasco. All you had to do was shut up and not pozload my negholep and you probably could've at the very least save face. But not only did you pozload my negholep, you smeared it all over your dumb faces and threw it into the crowd.

I've got a lot of sympathy with the devs. It's insane that Valve think they're entitled to 30% of the gross of your game just because they provide file hosting and an increasingly cluttered store front.

We just need enough developers to beat it in to Valve that they're being greedy, then they'll drop their rake to 5% or something approximating sanity and we can get back to business as usual.

Also, fuck you Valve. Spin off steam and get whatever atrophied remains of your game dev studio still exist back on track.

Even if you think Valve is taking too big a cut, using the platform to advertise their game and then peacing out weeks before release is really scummy business practice.

They've poisoned the well for themselves as far as PC distribution goes, Valve would be totally in the right to never do business with them again. If Epic's platform doesn't take off, they're fucked.

It's a bluff. They have no bargaining chip here. If Metro: Exodus flops, there won't be anymore Metro, period. No PC, no nothing. They're not in a position to threaten PC-players, they should be on their fucking hands and knees and rolling back the Steam store removal which already resulted in thousands of people possibly having a consumer advocate case since their pre-orders suddenly morphed into something they didn't pay for.

If they want to play chicken with their customers, let them die.

EPIC's launcher is still in violation of the EU's GDPR, aka the consumer/data protection legislation. They also seem to be shoddy enough for people to have their accounts regularly attacked, leading to potential financial data being stolen.

So, guess I'm not playing Metro Exodus. At all.

Well, not legally anyway.

Because fuck these useless guys. I hope 4A gets shuttered for their behaviour and attitude.

Even Ubisoft isn't so retarded as to yoink games off of Steam after leaving them for advertisement for a full fucking year.

I was actually looking forward to this game, ya know. I've enjoyed the story as driven by 4A and the writers as it's varied enough from the books (they have actual metro-trains still rumbling around in those) that it provided a different take.

But nope. Fuck 'em.

4A pretty much nuked their franchise and their reputation in two days. Way to go, guys!

Steam is the most convenient online game store in this part of the world, to the point that it killed off real-life video game stores where I live. I seriously doubt this "Epic Games Store" would be just as accessible in ex-USSR countries as Steam, so 4A probably shouldn't expect strong sales in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Which means they're fucked, because take a wild guess where Glukhovsky's books are the most popular...

:stress:

Developers don't make those decisions, publishers do.

Yeah, um, about that...

I have yet to see one games launcher that doesn't violate some bullshit law the EU comes up with. Their privacy laws are a joke designed to ruin the internet.

The EU's GDPR and anything to do with data combines the worst of "there oughtta be a law" democracy with the worst of bureaucratic fuckery by out of touch unelected assholes who are senile and have no fucking clue whatsoever what the technology they're regulating is or how people use it, because they're a bunch of lizard people.

Access to excellent servers, community features, an audience already invested in the site and curators is pretty nice.

Would be cool if Valve had different prices for single player and multiplayer games but whatever.

This coming barely a month and a half after Escape From Tarkov's developers bombard a Youtube channel with nearly 50 DMCA strikes for criticising their game reinforces why I don't trust any developer connected to Russia. They have a cultural inability to take criticism.
