At least it can't be worse than Other M!

I mean, I'd like to see that!

Am I right guys?
Ah, shit. You just jinxed it.

PS. Other M was a decent game in my book. It's no Super Metroid or Prime Trilogy, but aside from the haphazard story, it was alright. I mean, I'd wager that most folks would just make a few changes to the story, and it'd work out.

After all these years (I don't count FedForce or Other M) the hunter is finally back in the best Varia suit - the suit cunts like Sakurai absolutely refuse to put in Smash. Nippon just can't handle the fact that western barbarians made the best Metroids. This also confirms that Retro used Prime Remastered as a skeleton for this new one which is good. Scan visor is back = very good. I hope Yamamoto returns as well. And I hope to see expanded GFed ranks like the Demo troopers and maybe even based Admiral Dane. They were cool.

Prime is practically the most iconic part of the Metroid series among the Metroid fanbase despite the fact that the Japanese Nintendo branch trying to crowbar Super Metroid into that space. Although I suppose Metroid Dread might be the eventual face of Metroid in the East.

every single time anyone drops that other m got dogshit translation i have to jump up to tell retards that the game still makes no sense if you think about it.
just yesterday someone insisted that the evil federation side got arrested in the japanese translation while this never happens, or that adam shooting samus in the back and letting the metriod fly up to her face is some act of kindness that he always trusted her?

Hey, I’m not saying that it completely fixes the narrative, as it still has lots of problems. Just that it isn’t nearly as nonsensical as the original localization.

Nothing will change the fact that Other M made Samus cry in front of Ridley whom she had killed multiple times by that point. And it also made Samus go into a Lava World (literally taking burn damage) without turning on her Heat-Protection simply because "daddy adam hadn't authorized it yet". It wasn't a matter of not having heat-protection and having to find an upgrade - she has the upgrade already, it was just turned off... Other M was a game set at the end of the franchise which wanted to have the melodramatic moments of a game set at the beginning of the franchise. It failed, but it was so many years ago that we've reached the point where pro-Other M hacks occasionally come out of the woodwork to try and go "Hey it wasn't really that bad guys come on now". No, The game was shit then, and it remains shit now. The test of time has already judged it.

It also shoves a nigger in the game just to call Samus "princess". Fuck Sakamoto. Fuck his weird daddy dom fetishes. And Praise be to Tanabe and Retro.

i think anthony is the only good point other m; he is just a normal guy in the group who could talk like a normal person. just like a lot of things in the game, it would bennefit if he showed up far sooner in the timeline.

I need to beat Metroid: Other M. I never played in the post-game segment. That pointing bullshit at the end what was ridiculous, and I was just confused as to what to do, dying several times before figuring it out.

I'm extremely racist, but, curiously, even I didn't mind Anthony. He was well-written enough, although his competition was slim, sure.

This shit baffles me to this day, a lot of my criticisms of Other M would be solved if the game was instead a prequel to Zero Mission, Samus crying in front of Ridely would be more acceptable if this was their first ever meeting still think its dumb but at least we could say she is a noob at this point, I think the manga handled it better where she is seen scared but still willing to fight instead of freezing with fear. The Varia suit thing is still retarded tho even as a rookie on her first mission, Samus not activating the suit "because daddy said no uwu" should be changed instead to her having to acquire the Suit within the lava zone.
There is a mod to the game that apparently rewrites parts of the story, mainly by muting dialogue or skipping some cutscenes, it omits the whole "Adam must authorize" and instead explains that Samus' suit was heavily damaged after Mother Brain and is auto-repairing itself slowly to full power, and in the case of the Varia suit, Samus stops all other upgrades to prioritize the Varia Suit's repair.
I'll leave the link here if anyone is curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/Metroid/comments/6msbxg/other_m_maxximum_edition_fix_hack_first_release/

Leaving Other M aside before I sperg too much, I'm optimistic for Prime 4, I hope its great, not a fan of the soundtrack used for the trailer, but maybe it will grow on me?

I agree, it seemed kindov "off". The Pirate theme was fine, but the snippet at the end sounded like Prime-lite to me. Even the Samus fanfare at the beginning was like, "Woah that sounds bombastic and all but, the Prime Trilogy is Synth/Techno... right?" The overpowering choir kindov clashed with the usual vibe we've come to expect from Prime imo.
I trust Retro though, they've earned it, especially after nailing Prime Remastered which was clearly used as a skeleton for Prime 4. The sub-title "Beyond" is ass though, and I blame Metroid Dread for stealing its name from Prime 3.

The biggest intrigue comes from Sylux himself. I'm about to make some big leaps here but, two things make him very interesting to me. (1.) Sylux has 5 fingers and is humanoid, and he is officially referred to as a "male". Meaning he is likely another human being just like Samus, not a space parasite or alien or pirate android or some unrelatable shit... He is likely a man, which potentially means he will have a relatable human backstory/human flaws. (2.) He has space pirates/metroids/mochtroids as his backup. This fact alone, specifically the Metroids seemingly being tamed by him, creates many interesting theories. Samus is the only other character to have "tamed" a Metroid, rather one imprinted onto her. Does that mean Sylux has Metroids imprinted onto him? Does it mean Sylux is even more closely related to Samus than previously speculated? Metroid Dread introducing more "familial" story elements for Samus opens up a lot of room for story crafting...

OR they will go completely simplistic with it and just keep his shit a mystery and make him a meanie face bad guy who really hates the Federation and Samus by proxy "just because" - which would be really gay and uninteresting.

i got to give it to nintendo, they have been playing for 17 years of introducing a minor jobber from a side game into a main bad guy and have been planting seeds for it as long as it takes for a child being born to becomming an adult.

him being in controll of the metroids may be because, just like samus, he was "there" when a metroid hatched in federation force, so he became a surogate father for it.

I saw people discussing years ago the idea that Sylux doing something with the metroids is the reason the Galactic Federation called upon Samus for their extermination.

This would genuinely be the coolest angle if it was real, iirc it fits in the timeline as well, as Prime 1-4 all take place before the events of SR388.

Sylux was my favorite Hunter to play as on the multiplayer mode of Prime Hunters, seeing him in the spotlight as a villain is awesome, I hope those fan theories from back in the day that he was actually a woman do not end up being true

Going by the timeline Sylux could be the first being to successfully "tame" a Metroid and could cause the Federation to panic and call Exterminatus on them in what would chronologically be the next game

I sat down and made a better effort to play Metroid Prime Remaster and have just gotten through the lab where they turn the lights out. It plays great and mostly like I remember the original.

Being able to jump in ball mode is new, right? I remember using double and truple jumps in the original but have not needed them once so far.

I'm going to wait until the whole trilogy comes out on Switch before I touch that shit.

Dread is more than enough for the Metroid habit for me for now, that and I still have the entire trilogy on one disc in the Wii, so I can always hit that up.

Annnnd I'm pretty livid at this game now.

Changing the room called Geothermal Core to reflect the inferior design of the PAL and JP versions of the game is insulting. The debris over the ice door at the end of the puzzle (at the top of the room) is just bad design. And the bitch of it is that I had a few power bombs until right before then, but I figured I would try them out to see if I could hit the multiple enemies that are crawling on the spider ball tracks all at once. I was playing around... having fun and challenging myself. Adding debris in front of the door after the puzzle with no way to replenish your power bomb ammo within any of the nearby rooms is amateur design.

I do not mind redoing the puzzle, it is not that difficult. It is fun! Mismanaging my resources was my own fault; but having to walk my ass all the way back to my ship or to the Phazon Mines (because nothing else spawns power bomb ammo at a reasonable rate in that area) is bullshit. And to top it off, they don't even give you a visual cue or any hint that you might want to conserve that ammo type; you can't even see the door from the ground and once you're on the rails the camera is locked. Up until then the remaster was good fun and I was having a blast. My mistakes were my mistakes and I never felt like I was running up against the developers of the game. It certainly didn't happen in the original.

But seeing the minor tweak to that room took away any desire for me to want finish the remaster, which I subsequently uninstalled. Asshole design intended to annoy the player is bad design.

What an absolute shame. I'm not even sure I want the sequel remastered anymore if these are the design choices the team are going to go with.

I don't know much about Metroid since I've only played Super Metroid, Zero Mission and Metroid Prime but I'm pretty sure Samus is only 6'3/300lbs when she is in her suit, given how huge and bulky that thing is, just like how Master Chief is almost 7ft and 400lbs in his armor.
So as to not derail the Sony thread: you would think, but most people only focus on the height and not whether or not the suit makes her weigh only 200 pounds.

Retro Studios (Prime) devs said they modeled her as 5'11" out-of-suit, then over 7 feet in it. The Japanese are usually a bit different and they don't actually make the suit add much to her height.

Hence why there are spergy arguments about it. Other M makes her a usual small Japanese woman and basically everyone else is taller than her. This is concept art for example:

Regardless I find it hard to believe that a woman as petite as Samus could somehow weigh 200lbs when she looks like she only weighs about a buck twenty at the most.

I know right? That Chozo DNA works wonders apparently.

I think people don't just ask Sakamoto about it during an interview to settle it because they know he's a weirdo now due to Other M.
