Frogmire was right with his Van Halen "brown m&m's" reference. If they shoved quirktastic NPCs into the game, that is a symptom of a much larger problem with the game. The foe-open world gimmick, the MetroidCycle, these are all warning signs. If the developers can't be bothered to maintain a tense/solitary atmosphere in the game series which is supposed to be all about isolation, dense exploration, and tension - what else have they neglected? People are also ignoring the fact that the captain planet brigade has multiple members, which means they are going to be a presence over the course of the entire game. You think Mackenzie is bad? Wait until the woman is making a "us girls gotta stick together Samus" line, or the nigger is saying anything at all... it WILL be just as bad, Mackenzie was simply in the unlucky position to be seen first.

The people in this thread giving the vacuous response of "don't care me waited long time me buy expensive game" are the exact reason why modern goytendo does what they do. At heart just like the labo crowd, they are slop consoomers, refusing to acknowledge the very real warning signs while acting like defending a billion dollar global company is honorable. Terminal positivity. There are obviously people being hyperbolic about Prime 4's visible faults for jewtube clicks - but ultimately that does not change the very real faults themselves. The Metroidcycle seems like a stupid gimmick to me, sure, but aside from that (and more importantly) it is indicative of a general misunderstanding of what Metroid is. You're rebooting the Metroid Prime series - the series that popularized the term first person adventure, but you're shoving in a half baked 3rd person Bicycle? Warning. You're rebooting the series known for dense exploration and silent contemplation, but you're shoving in a half baked looking open world gimmick and annoying hand-holdy NPCs? Warning. People clickbaiting on jewtube does not change any of that.

People are talking about Prime 3 having a handheld intro tutorial with a lot of conversation, indeed, and people disliked it at the time.

"This series had a bad thing in the past, so you must accept worse" is such a weird concept.

How long until people start Other M revisionism, like I see people doing with stuff like Cod Ghosts?

Samus has never been depicted as buff or overly muscular in any video game she's been in. She is very tall and athletic but more often than not she just looks "normal".
The "Power" part in Power Suit/Armor means it sustains its own weight, as well as she does mostly cardio in her adventures, so yes, she should be just toned. The SSBU is, I think, a pretty accurate design of what she would be like, all things considered.

But, like the others said, she got magic bird genes so that she could have dense muscles after all, like the pink girl from Demon Slayer.

Maybe the authors just don't understand height and weight well, also a possibility, like how people point out that Vegeta and Astolfo have the same weight despite Vegeta being a buff alien and the other a femboy.

Unrelated, I only played Super on the SNES emulator. Which game should I try next? Fusion? Zero Mission?

Zero Mission. Then Fusion. If you fancy those games and don't want to bother with the original Gameboy version of Return of Samus, go play AM2R. Samus Returns is crap bogged down by it's boring parry mechanic and you need a 3DS to play it anyway. I still haven't finished Dread despite powering through it without the parry (I can feel the dev's hatred toward me when they give me 90% less pickups for not using their shitty mechanic). I took a break from it because it took forever to figure out where to go next to due to bad signposting.

If you don't mind the transition to first person, then Prime Remastered. I dunno about 2-3 as I'm trying to finish them now myself.

This reminds me of some old guy bitching about how Samus in the 2D Metroid games is an acrobat, but she just walks around while facing the enemy in the Prime games. He made a decent point.

I don't know, man. As a Nintendo guy most of my life, if they can't even make good games anymore I can just buy a PS3 and play what I've missed for the past quarter century. I'll probably do that anyway.

idk about you guys but this extinguishes any desire I had to play this fucking game lmao
I can't even fathom what it's like to be a huge Metroid fan right now.
I want to play the first three games as my first playthrough of the series. Was going to say binge play them through my Christmas break and then play MP4. Not so much now that Retro Studios has ruined 4 with an annoying character.

You're rebooting the series known for dense exploration and silent contemplation,
I already played that game. It was called Metroid Prime. I am always open to a long running series trying something new. So far, the core Metroid Prime gameplay seems to be there, which is what I ask for at a minimum. The rest will be known when the game releases.

I liked Other M. The gameplay is plenty fun, especially pulling off the execution moves.

I remember the boss fights were good too. I didn't care too much for the story. Galactic Federation conducting forbidden research aboard a space station and Samus has to go in and fix it all? Fusion already did that. I wasn't a fan of Samus' zero suit design either because she looks too slim. She ought to look lean like an athlete.
I’m mostly just wondering why a guy in a futuristic suit with vision enhancement needs glasses.

Other M had that too. Guess the Federation doesn't invest in employee vision care. Explains why their troops can't hit shit.

I think I'll just wait and see, but if this is just open-world slop with annoying NPCs, I think I'm done with Nintendo for good. Only reason I'm keeping my Switch is because my nephew likes to play Minecraft and Mario Kart with me.

It could be worse.

They could do what they did to Aya Brea in Parasite Eve 2, and make her fall for an NPC who she only sees about half a dozen times.

Wait. They're both blonde women with genetic superpowers. Actually, okay, it might be time to panic.

It's a visual storytelling thing in the case of Myles.
he is yellow, ergo he is a piss baby little bitch
so a little peepee pisspiss boy?
also i'd like to express contempt for self insert writing fags being this much on the face with large IP's, some random bumfuck shit ala dustborn? sure, self insert as gayly as possible but don't do this on IP's that are semi-decent... it's just fucking cringe.

I dislike it even today. It gets worse every time, makes me wish it had a "skip entire segment" door a la System Shock 2.
"This series had a bad thing in the past, so you must accept worse" is such a weird concept.
It's just an attempt at justification through prior precedent. I've also read, "Well that tutorial section in Prime 3 sucked but the rest of the game was good so how will this be any different?" I guess learning from missteps is just not a thing either!

Yes because a quirky reddit wholesome chungus side character(s) is just the breath of fresh air the Metroid franchise needed.

Jesus you people only deserve contempt.

Go play tennis or something.
Before the unveiling of that character, I would have at the very least pirated the damn game. But I don’t want to spend my precious time on a game that’s going to annoy me. I don’t even care how he looks. Just the voice and how he nags you through the game makes me say pass.

But hey, Mario Tennis is better suited for my time. Thanks for the suggestion

It would be kind of funny if he doesn't have any idea who Samus is and she doesn't speak to him at all. Which prompts him to think she's a guy. However, this guy killed whatever interest I had left in the game. The joke wouldn't be worth dealing with that voice telling me what to do.

Myles Mackenzie is giving me Walmart shooter vibes for some reason.
I just found out about this whole thing and yeah the entire time I thought that this guy looks like every soyjak meme combined.

Rated E for Estrogen

Why does everyone constantly bring up that fricken Nintendo Power image as the only Samus depiction that matters?
Probably the same reason there's this bit from some sort of Pokémon guide floating around where it says to use the Masterball (sic) for a Fearow or Tentacruel, as some sort of gotcha for game guidebooks, but it wasn't in either the Prima guide or the official Nintendo one.

it's like being a halo fan, and you hear "so we hired people who fucking hate halo to make halo now" for the first time.
I'd say the yellow paint guy is worse, at least 343 had a game plan, "just make halo not like halo, and we'll get cod people" (they didn't)

With miles, what the fuck is the excuse for having him other than just saying Metroid is for retards now?
Technically, Metroid Prime is still made by Retro, but Retro Studios in 2025 and the Retro Studios of 20 years ago really isn't the same group anymore.

The thing devs dont get is it worked with Wheatley because his whole character trait is being a annoying retard, they see people continue to remember him and decide to put that onto their serious character thinking that will make their game memorable.
Also the big twist with Wheatley was around halfway in the game when after achieving his goal of usurping GlaDOS, assumed the place of the main villain and proceeded to screw you over.

I can't imagine this guy being the big boss and a million rainbow stickers for you if you think that Myles will be dissolved in acid/killed by Kraid in the first hour to show how "serious" the situation is.

boost guardian awaits
pain without end until spider guardian later have fun lmao
I honestly don't care how brutal the bosses are (I grew up playing shit like Chakan: The Forever Man). But the fact that two of the game's beams have limited ammo is baffling to me. For the time being I'm using one when the other is low but don't have more then a few dozen shots of each at a time. Hasn't happened yet but I dread finding a door that needs either dark or light and not having ammo. Finished Agon and going to the swamps now.
