There was a good idea for exploring Samus’ relationship with the Galactic Federation in Other M, but the execution should have been on someone other than a guy who writes extremely Japanese VNs when he isn’t being the Metroid guy.
in all other media, their relationship is very very tense, Samus wields tech that exceeds anything they have and is able to deal with threats.. that they would love to capture to use, they respect and use her, but it seems they'd gladly double cross her for any number of reasons.

Considering what they know she has, you'd think they'd try and capture her too.

I wasn't super thrilled with Fusion as the level design didn't interest me.
I'd be very curious to hear what you think about the X-Fusion romhack if you ever play it
(Haven't finished it myself cuz I got distracted, but I think it's time to start over and have another go)

People saying Prime 4 will be as bad as Other M are definitely Mongoloids though. Until Prime 4 has Samus have a literal PTSD freakout when fighting Ridley to the point where she mentally projects herself as a little girl in a dress crying like a baby - Prime 4 isn't as bad as MOM
Not saying it will happen, but with modern western writers, lots of them seem to have an inferiority complex where they have to prove that are somehow a better writer or know how to do something better than their predecessors and almost always fail to do it. So anything horrible is possible with them.

I've never heard of it. What is the premise of it?
Total redo of Fusion. There's 2 versions of the romhack, one for SNES/SMetroid, and one for GBA/Fusion.

From what I've seen so far it totally reworks the story, reworks large chunks of the map, changes some mechanics, and is trying to be a more of a "horror game".

It's a bit like the Subversion and Vitality romhacks where enough has changed that you can't be 100% sure of what the rules are now. Some people have said it's a huge troll attempt, which I disagree with because of the effort in it, but with things like how the Varia suit works in X-Fusion I can totally get people feeling that way.

That said, in the Japanese version, it wasn’t to get senpai to notice her, but rather, it was her trying to prove to herself that she had moved past her issues of feeling powerless and the like.
The woman who literally blew up entire planets still struggling with feelings of "powerlessness" at the end of the timeline is a monty python-tier silly conceit.

Here's the best thing about Other M's GFed being cliche evil government assholes and Samus apparently going against them - In Metroid Fusion, Samus still works for them in the beginning of the game... So even if we remove the Prime games, Sakamoto still forgets shit and fucks it up.
i like prime 2 the most out of the trilogy, prime 1 has better environments but 2 has better bosses
I would partially disagree there. I think Prime 2's environments are a step above Prime's, and this is coming from a certified Prime 3 dickrider who thinks Elysia is the coolest location in the entire Metroid series. Not to say I have anything against Prime's locales though, since we're dealing with Retro Studios' 2000s art department which means everything was superior. That said, the one place that comes closest to potentially topping Elysia in my mind isn't any location from Prime 1, it's Prime 2's Sanctuary Fortress. The Sanctuary Fortress is an artistic achievement on the gamecube, much like Elysia is an artistic achievement on the Wii. Every single room has some new complex texture or graphical model to look at. The enemies are unique and cool, the cyber rain is eye catching, and all the little mechanoids and pieces of high technology are basically just Retro's art team flexing at you.

I’m guessing that the destruction of Zebes, the planet she was raised on, along with the death of the baby Metroid, are what contributed to such a feeling in her. After everything she went through, I can kind of understand it.

Not saying it was done well mind you, as again, the execution was sloppy.

She states in the introduction that she was contracted by Biologic Space Laboratories B.S.L., which is the corporation owning the space station in which the game takes place.

it ate her parents in front of her
He didn't, actually. Ridley just says he might have eaten her mother to Samus. He did however kill her mother with that breath attack he has in front of her. The woman visibly gets basically vaporized, meaning Ridley is bullshitting.

The picture of it in Fusion is different than how it is portrayed in the manga, but yeah. Ridley doesn't even technically kill Samus' father, the man actually blows himself up and drops a ship on him.

I've completely mandela effected that away and I knew that, the dementia is kicking in.

Finished prime 2 echos. That game was alot harder then the first game. Not gonna lie, Some of the difficulty spikes pissed me off, but at the same time, i kinda liked the extra challenge. The backtracking was a bit too much for my liking though and going between light and dark world was annoying at times.

Not sure if this was an emulating issue, but the dark beam must be the worst weapon in the series. It only existed to open portals and give yourself light ammo. that thing did not even work on the final boss so everytime it turned into light mode, it made me cringe.
You were using the dark beam wrong. It's basically just a reskinned ice beam from Prime 1, so a charge shot freezes them then a missile kills most things in the game.

So what? She still works for the GFed in the beginning of the game. That's what I meant.

Oh, and it turns out the B.S.L. contracts for the GFed lol, so you're mistaken on two fronts. And if it was written that Samus just "didn't know" she was working for the same people who betrayed her a game earlier, once again - bad writing.

1 week til Miles' Bizarre Adventure.

Answering the distress signal was, I believe, a condition of using the ship given to her by the Galactic Federation. I believe B.S.L. sent her to them since they couldn't handle the X infestation in her body. Anyway, we're splitting hairs, so I'll concede.

I'm probably not going to have time to play Metroid Prime 4 on its release day. :(

I saw someone here mention that the switch 1 version of MP4 would be 60fps. Is that confirmed in any way? I might take the time to pirate this on my OLED to see if it's worth the time myself (it probably isn't buy I'm willing to give it a shot)

It's a switch 1 game that has a switch 2 version. The original trailer was switch 1 footage running at 60fps, and prime remastered on the same engine runs locked 60 at 900p docked and 600p handheld. The paid switch 2 update version, per nintendo's own words at some point, gives HDR, 120hz at 1080p, or 60fps at 4k, higher res textures, and mouse controls

Don't care, didn't ask. Here to have on-topic conversations, fuck off with your language policing faggotry.
sure thing faggo, will you try the damn thing with the switch 1 emu?

i don't really trust nintendo but is this going to be a PS3/PS4 style of game where the game is clearly meant to run on PS4 but it's heavily capped for PS3 just so they can get some sales from people that don't want or don't have the money to upgrade? cyberpunk comes to mind as well where on PS4 it's garbage but on PS5 is doable to play with.

on another note, i kind of get the complaint about the color palette, from a glance it looks a bit like something you'd find halo infinite open areas.

i was going to mention how pixelated it is for a 720p video but i remembered it's switch 2 footage.

Competency crisis is really starting to rear its head in the gaming world now. First they absolutely butcher Homeworld's story telling and themes with Homeworld 3, and now theyre doing it to Metroid.

Its not that these people have contempt or want to self insert. They are genuinely stupid and dont understand what made the ip originally appealing and good. This is only going to get worse as more and more older developers retire and are replace with ai or indians.

The environments look less detailed than Prime Remastered, but they are larger so the frame budget is likely the same (Prime on gamecube got away with crazy detail at the time because of the small enclosed levels, and the remaster carried that as well), if it were made for switch 2 I don't think it would be hitting 120fps at 1080p or native 4k 60 since they would use the extra frametime budget to increase the detail of the scenes instead of using it for performance.

From what I've gathered, it doesn't sound like Switch 2 hardware has actually been around for devs for very long, since Donkey Kong and Mario Kart were both originally intended to release on Switch 1, and Prime 4 has been in development for 5+ years at this point. Given how well Prime remastered runs and how Nintendo's other tech wizard studio Monolithsoft have managed to squeeze magic out of the underclocked 2015 switch 1 hardware, it seems very likely that their engine is just very scalable but it was budget around switch 1, which would explain the giant empty desert and slightly under-detailed world. The trailer I posted is all Switch 1 footage, it looks basically the same as the switch 2 footage but fuzzier. A little rambly but my point is that its a Switch 1 game like how Breath of the Wild is a Wii U game, it will look nicer on the new hardware but its made for the older hardware and will look and run fine on it.

I think its also interesting how the yellow paint guy is completely absent from that trailer, even though they show two scenes where he is supposed to be in it, either they removed him from that trailer, or he was added to the game in the last 7 or 8 months since that trailer.

Double post but its a slow thread. I'm very surprised the game seemingly hasn't leaked yet, typically retailers get physical copies a week or sometimes two weeks before release. Maybe Nintendo is only shipping Switch 2 versions out?
