I'm guessing this is either a retcon or the "Adam made it sound dignified" thing from Fusion was added in localization. I could believe either.
One thing I liked about Other M is the way her visor in translucent until she "gets serious". It's a neat little detail.
Localization issue. Fusion's English script is really cut down and randomly rewritten from the Japanese script. For the specific part you're mentioning, here's the what the English version says.

Probably took responsibility as most japanese higher ups do when they release a bomb (except sakamoto). The sad thing is I'm still betting that the open world was a demand by goytendo. The dumbed down levels, the handholding, the BOTW shrines etc. had to be a corporate mandate, I refuse to believe otherwise... But just like Sakamoto deserves to get shit forever for Other Mom, Tanabe definitely had some hills that he shouldn't have died on. If things like FedForce and the plot of Prime 4 were wholly his baby he definitely got wires crossed. FedForce was a legendary missing of the mark after the gut punch of Other M. When it comes to the Feds, Prime 2 did it literally perfectly, Feds are a base part of the plot, the "inciting incident", but they're all dead. It gives the plot weight, builds the world with the trooper logs, and characterizes Samus. Prime 3 was too much for some but the trilogy was built up and needed to go out with a bang, and it did. The NPCs were fine, good even when you see how they could have been done badly. Everything Prime 4 did badly Prime 3 did well. That's the best thing about Prime 4, it recontextualizes Prime 3 and the complaints people had about it, which were overblown.
I'd argue he got too many chances. His goal was to branch Metroid out in some way, and with Prime the formula was well received - Prime is still considered a "spin off" even if it is canon. Prime 2 added a new dimension to the game (literally and figuratively) for better or worse, while Prime 3 diluted the "Metroid" part of the series into being individual maps instead of a continuous, connected world. Prime 4 is just a Halo game with Samus in it.

Not everyone gets to end their career on a good note, and only a few ends up dying and leave their greatest work forever unfinished. Most people end up in disgrace: some gradually lose their touch overtime, other were overrated one-trick ponies who never had real talent to even begin with, and then proceeds to try something else and immediately fail.
Tanabe will always get credit for helping on Link to the Past... and Sakamoto will always get shit for WarioWare..... I want another god damn real Warioland.... but Wario is fucking trapped inside the warioware dungeon forever.
And the prequels... and his "sorry for making nig nig binks" negro airmen movie, and his shitty indiana jones, and return of the jedi.

Never played it, doesn't looks terrible, but I really loved playing Warioland on gameboy when I was a kid, since Wario plays like a slower but more aggressive version of mario and the game in general was a lot of fun.
Now that you mention it, Luke and his family being moisture farmers on a desert planet sure does have some pretty major overlap, at least Lucas went "eastern philosophy" instead of "middle-eastern philosophy" so we don't have to pretend muslim philosophy is even a little bit interesting.
Warioware is fun, a perfect blend of portable but fun gaming (on Gameboy) and decent motion controls (on Wii) where it's clear the devs didn't take themselves too seriously. Wario as a bad guy kind of morphed into "wario as a stinky but silly character to put in weird situations" because that's all he's been used for lately.
I definitely prefer 2D Metroid, but I think I'm generally a 2D over 3D fan anyway. I was just talking with my son about Starfox and how 3D rail shooters aren't very fun for me to play, while I really enjoy 2D rail shooters like R-Type. I actually wouldn't hate it if they made a 2D Metroid rail shooter where you are in Samus' spaceship. Heck, make it like Prime 3 where there are different planets you have to travel to in the ship and do 2D ground missions on - just steal the entire Kingdom Hearts gummy ship section (but make it 2D and good please).

I think the only upgrade I remember was psychic charge shot where you have to hit multiple arms of a boss or hitting the inner core of the flare pool boss.
