So interested in purchasing this game next month (doing a no-buy month in Feb). Have you all enjoyed it so far? Favorite & Least favorite bits?
I definitely enjoyed my time with the game.
Good:
- It's what Into the Breach should have been, imo. Four misfit cats with fucking wack combos that can chain or synergise in unexpected ways. Even retarded cats with retarded skill picks can turn out to be unexpectedly useful; it's rare I actually get a totally dud cat despite the breadth of skills and traits available.
- Gameplay is both deep and solid; the years of work McMillen put into this shows brilliantly.
- Music is surpisingly on-point
- It's cats. Retarded cats with Downies, maybe, but it's cats.

Meh:
- The "McMillen" brand of humour is something I can take it or leave it. Expect poop jokes/enemies, dead babies, and if it really bothers you, le meows of known nazi hitlers e-celeb like moistkritical (lol). Good luck actually distinguishing them ingame though.

Bad:
- Where did all my hours go?
- Pacing can be odd; you can definitely hit a point where the metaprogression feels slow and yet has nothing to show for it. Gets much better once you can actually do targetted breeding and know what the fuck your cats base stats are.

Holy shit the Crater boss is total aids. Any tips bros? What the hell is this entire screen being covered in projectiles the moment I touch the boss.
The cycle is:
  1. Everywhere stun (extremely bad)
  2. Instakill right in front (pretty easy)
  3. Creep diagonal (annoying, bad)
  4. Trample in front/behind (managable)
Summons make things very tough. Otherwise its just managing attacks, if you can do 5 (?) a turn its pretty managable. In my experience, the top path bosses want you to be able to attack as much as possible, which is pretty annoying considering the enemies in Crater.

Psychic can be pretty good: I got borrow mana and Braingeyser/Power up. Basically every turn I got ramping amounts of sparks, like 20 dmg by turn 2 without even using mana. Will say from the options Psychic seems like a support version of Mage which is at least cool.

I dont get the "drama" about chrischan voicing some meows. Many ppl say it defends his actions but if McMillen is such a chrischan fan, he wouldnt let the real chrischan, liquid chris, also voice some meows. Now i havent compared the voices of the cats, but it would be funny if liquid chris was the one to voice the sonichu cat lol.

How does cat aging work, do they have a longevity stat? They usually seem to start to get old and die around 25-30, but I have this one retired cat that's currently 43 and not even old yet

My latest discovery is that fire refills the estus flask the same way water refills the water bottles.

I think I saw somewhere that health stat on the room they're in each night is a factor for whether they progress towards "getting old," or how much they progress towards it, or something.

I think it’s random because I had one cat go to 30 before getting old. I think they stop mating once they’re old and if I read it right once they’re old they have a 50% chance of dying from old age.

I beat the first Guillotina fight pretty easily with an old cat so they can be worth keeping around for a final battle.

Using the Amigara cat as a baseline for my entire bloodline seems clever, just so I have two separate instances of "ignores traps and hazards" floating around in the gene pool forever.

i got an eagle spawn for the bird
it dropped a rocket launcher

I think it's less that there's cameos and more the quality of them. h3h3? Ian? chrischan? This could've been an animator tour de force like Smiling Friends.

I've really been loving the game so far, it's really cool being able to play a roguelike shortly after it came out, before the game is fully solved, so I just screw up and figure out stuff by myself. Also the soundtrack is so good, I haven't got super far in yet, but the first three zone songs have been on repeat in my head! How have you guys been liking it?

So apparently
If the game is ended through powershell, it doesn't trigger Steven's anti-save scum procedure. Abuse this as you will...

I imagine most of the people complaining only know the mom-banging, and nothing deeper. If you know Liquid Chris, you probably understand why Chrischan is in the game.

Pretty good, though progress can feel a bit slow (especially once you get to a certain point and your progress is potentially halted). Soundtrack is great, haven't heard a song I disliked. I still laugh that one of the areas that frustrated me the most had the calmest song (The Moon).

I just beat the lab, which gives a quest to fight Throbbing King. Guillotina 3 isn't even coming yet, so I gotta wait for her, complete that quest, THEN complete the quest for more Act 3 progress (You technically could do both quests at once, but that would be pretty damn tough). I am low on the metaprogression so I understand, but it is a downer.

EDIT: Zaratana is coming next, still gotta wait on Guillotina 3. Damn.

I don't think I discovered any particularly bonkers cheese strat, but I do want to list down items which I found to be consistently useful in my games:
  • Antennae - Free zaps for anything coming in contact. Bonkers for tanks and melee-focused units. Small stun chance is also fun when it procs.
  • Jitte - ST up per hit AND inflicting weakness? Unlimited use too, so it's an incredibly reliable, if slow way to snowball your melee into more and more damage.
  • Steel Ball - Technically a weapon, in reality it's basically an invincible pet that tanks hits for you.
  • Blackjack - Incredible weapon. Free hits on contact. Unlimited use. Works even when you just move yourself from one enemy to another. I'm definitely keeping all the blackjacks I can find.
  • Bird Feed - Unassuming item, but they fact that they spawn birds early that you can potentially turn into items is insane. You can count almost every map having at least one bird with this equipped, though whether you have the build to actually reach them is another matter.
  • Phantom Mask - This is the head armour version of Steel Ball. Each time you take shield damage, it spawns an invincible pet as well. Works just as well as Steel Ball.
  • Stunning Beard - Doubles the effects of items in the head and neck slot. Just as amazing as it sounds.
  • Spring - Your cat now jumps. Also as good as it says, since you no longer care about terrain.

Situational items, but ones I found pretty fun:
  • Peace Symbol - No damage, get 1 shield. Very cool for clerics or necros that just run around buffing/debuffing people. Notably, it works with that necro skill that sets your basic attack to 0 in exchange for 3 leech stacks.
  • Flower - Looks unassuming, until you realise that flower tiles give you regen AND 50% dodge chances. Pair with wet for maximum synergy.
  • Head Spring - Bounces back units that walk up to you. Very funny to give to backline units.
  • Skull Clamp - 10 shield and 2 brace for -6 int you say? Surely not. But combined with a stunning item it makes a melee cat tanky as all hell.

There's still probably many more items I missed, so I'm looking forward to finding them.

That said, PCP is definitely not to be fucked with lol. I didn't realise Madness takes effect immediately, so I lost two cats immediately to my gay thief going berserk.

Just experienced one of the most disheartening things so far: My monk got the monkey's paw, or whatever, event and I wished for a strong item. Well, instead it gave me an effect, which locks out all of my items, except the trinket, which would have its effect tripled. The SLIGHT ISSUE with this fucking effect is that monks cannot use trinkets, but rather in their place have the innate ability to switch the main attack between melee and ranged. In addition, the effect locked out the innate melee weapon, which allows the monk use its basic attack twice each turn to compensate for his shitty damage. So effectively, this one event double-castrated my monk and now he is basically a 28hp summon who does 3dmg each turn, if lucky (his skills are shit, especially without gear). Also in the same run, the literal first event gave my druid a cursed weapon, which makes his already shitty basic attack heal inflict bleed to himself and everything he targets. Not even halfway to the throbbing king yet and I'm doing a quest item run. It's sometimes rough out here, man *sigh*

A few miscellaneous discoveries:
  • If your cats are immune to knockback, enemies with Trample can't go through them. This means the Sewer boss can't attack or get around them at all, if you have multiple you can wall him in and make him helpless
  • Hitting flowers with water makes them grow into tall flowers, which give more regen than regular flowers and also have the dodge chance of tall grass. Hose is very good on a druid with a flower skill
  • You can multiclass via inbreeding:
